Looks exactly like normal multiplayer to me what am i missing? what does this allow you to do?
private servers, anticheats, dedicated servers for deathmatch games (the p2p sucks hard on gta online and doesnt seem to care about regions, so you get placed vs australians with a 500 ping difference and bullets only register 5% of the time), custom gamemodes, scripting and content. when the appropriate APIs are in place, the game will be exposed for people to do whatever they want with, something like just cause MP or garrysmod. also increased player limits for servers that can handle it. im curious about their whole asset tools and streaming thing, like if they mean entirely custom content can be streamed, or whether or not things like map changes can be streamed without downloads.
You've been waiting for GTAV multiplayer before you even knew GTAV was a thing?
You could say that. I've been waiting on a mod that allows dedicated MP servers, a la MTA/SAMP, since GTAIV came out on PC. There was one in the works for GTAIV, but it was never released.
I'm crazy excited for this
now i am totally uninformed on the legal way this works so i might be completely wrong but can it receive a C & D if the developers don't make a profit off it / you need GTA V to play it anyway?
I think Rockstar clearly mentioned in an EULA that GTA V mods are forbidden. Those dicks...
not gonna get my hopes up, rockstar will probably shut this down because $hark card$$$$
seize and desist sounds way cooler tho
seize and desist sounds like something a one liner an electricity wielding supervillain played by arnie would say before electrocuting somebody
now i am totally uninformed on the legal way this works so i might be completely wrong but can it receive a C & D if the developers don't make a profit off it / you need GTA V to play it anyway?
the 'legal if its not making profit' thing is false. im pretty sure there are US laws on reverse engineering and circumventing stuff. not sure where it ties in internationally, but i guess they can also do weak claims anyway because people arent going to go against a multi billion dollar corporation and lose ridiculous amounts of money when they will probably lose it anyway. it additionally becomes an issue if people who pirated the game are able to access the private servers, because then they can also say that they are allowing people to play the game online without paying anything. that being said there's not much point anyway, once the code is out there they can C&D as many of the official websites as they want, but they cant really stop people developing it. the next best thing they can do is knock out popular servers that people play on, but thats obviously bad publicity for them. just look at the halo online private servers for example. microsoft sent a cease and desist to the developers to take the code off github, so they did and just hosted it in various other private repos for people to continue working on. once its out there i dont really think they could fully tie the development and reversing back to any one person in particular, especially if its all going on behind closed doors.
The creator has already gotten a cease & desist for another MP mod he created, AlterIW for Modern Warefare 2. It shut down for a while, but he found a loophole or something and it's been back up for about a year. He has experience with this. But either way, I doubt Rockstar would even care enough to assemble the lawyers and spend a lot of money bringing a poor hobbyist to court. What threat does he pose? Taking out the 100$ a month they earn from shark cards?
Heyy, I'm in this video (Evoriya and in the black dominator :v:) ot can't wait for this to be developed enough to see some RP servers go up
If this turns out better than GTA:O, I wouldn't care if I got banned from it. Though I would be extremely pissed if they started banning singleplayer as well.
-snip- got misleading info.
I'm going to wait to see if that claim is true.
I asked a guy in their IRC about this (don't know if he was a dev). He told me that this does absolutely nothing to your GTA V folder, therefore R* can't detect shit. He told me he was 100% certain this doesn't get you banned. I take no responsibility of anything, this is just what I was told.
it still hooks in to the GTAV process [editline]6th May 2015[/editline] if i'm not incorrect, i believe you can just run the game in offline mode and still use FiveM. if you're really paranoid, add a rule in your firewall for the social club executable and GTAV.exe
Honestly I don't even care if I get banned with this (it's only 2 weeks for infractions anyways). This is clearly the superior option going forward. I haven't tried it out yet but I've been hanging out in IRC
Looks pretty good, but they accidentally left the screensaver on in the video.
