He sure as hell loved Overwatch, albeit that's an FPSMOBA so I guess it might be different rules. Either way, sounds like unoptimized PC ports of triple-A titles are becoming commonplace again.
not really, prime example was that my 670 that is a 4ish year old card could run some games he had troubles on that he tries to work with SLI. SLI is really great tech, but if its not implemented correctly with a driver, it can cause shittons more performance issues than it fixes.
Can't wait to see SLI/crossfire be superseded by DX12 multi adapter, its such a chore to get them working right these days
Does anybody have an explanation for this?
For the most part I think it's basically devs doing stupid stuff / there being a major issue within the graphics API with what they are doing, and the driver updates introduce hacks/workarounds.
What I don't get though is why the game isn't patched rather than drivers having to fix the game for them.
i cant believe how bad the combat in this game looks, it's like they spent all their effort in making the world and none in the actual gameplay
Does anybody have an explanation for this?
I'm assuming it's more thoughtlessness on the developers part (note: not laziness, just a huge oversight.) Devs expect that their problems really lie on the end user's technology because that's what makes sense to them ("hey, this game runs great on my one system, so it must be good everywhere else!" which has kinda grown from the console market.) and if there is a specific problem, they wait for their partner to fix it for them, i.e. nvidia or ati patches and things like that. again, this all stems from the console market and waiting for the manufacturer to open up more to them, but that shit doesn't work when you have such a varying degree of systems people will run your game on.
Most of the time devs will get the same pc's as their colleagues do, and won't vary in parts, so they'll see the same functionality between each computer and only hardware/low-level programming guys will know the difference since it's their job to constantly swap out parts and test performance.
For instance, my computer is a beast and will always run my game (sorry, trying not to plug, just trying to show what it looks like) at 60FPS at all highs, and since it has simple geometry, I assume it'll run just as good on my 4-year-old laptop. Nope. Runs at 30FPS AFTER the game has been knocked down in quality, removing half of the effects that make the game look good in my opinion. Which has really narrowed my foresight a lot, and keeps me deving on this PC even though I know at this point it runs poorly on lower-end machines. It's an easy thing to forget, and it's only become increasingly harder to realize with how much consoles have effected the hardware-centric mode of thinking. Though companies are getting a bit better at it, really having a PC port that has minimums like 60fps and 4K support has become more or less an advertising bulletpoint rather than something that should be expected for folks with higher-end machines.
basically, and I hate saying this cause it's overdone, but consoles are a primary reason why we're like this now, not "laziness"
I'm willing to give this game a chance, but they way TB was playing it made it seem really boring.
why waste your money giving a poorly reviewed game a chance just because of it's high profile marketing when there are so many much better games out there
i never understand this mindset
edit: also its very obvious which posters didnt even watch the first 2 minutes of the video
I think a lot of you are also missing that TB also ran this game on his laptop which has pretty average Desktop specs and it ran even worse.
if you haven't played Far Cry 3 then yeah sure
but it's really nothing special
I have, loved the gameplay, story was shit though.
It was just shiiiiiiit for me.
Honestly, once I saw the commercials for this that showed an identical HUD to Far Cry 4 with slight tweaks for theme I already guessed it was basically FC4 without guns and with new gimmicks of the age. While there seem to be cool mechanics here and there, honestly they seem like selling points on the back of the box and little more beyond that; even worse given that it's all gated behind plot village story building and fucking material collecting.
They tried to hype this up to be a real big thing for the franchise, but considering its first reveal late last year followed by such a short time between reveal and launch, it should've been obvious from the get-go that this is what Blood Dragon was to FC3, using the exact same core and creating new content ontop. Except where Blood Dragon was cheap and appealed to a self-aware 80's factor as a short standalone, this comes off as uninspired and trying to sell on similar cool factors with TIGERS AND MAMMOTHS for $60. I'm sure it'll appeal to Far Cry fans or those who really like the theming, but goddamn it's not even subtle anymore.
How do I really describe this? Should I just go, "It's just another modern Ubisoft game"? It feels mean to write it off like that, especially considering the art team's work, but then people have been saying the same shit for Assassin's Creed and I doubt this year's game is gonna shake shit up much either.
my game (sorry, trying not to plug, just trying to show what it looks like)=
Honestly even if you were plugging it I wouldn't care because that looks amazing

Then you'll probably get a kick out of Far Cry 4. It does boil down to more of the same, but they added enough new guns and side missions to keep it fresh. Personally, I didn't think the story was all that great in 4, but maybe you'll enjoy it?
I dunno. If you can pick it up for $30 or something, I'd say go for it.
i recall that waterfall effects were missing/broken on console versions.
Looks awful, even if he wasn't telling me it was.
What is up with crazy performance issues out of sudden? It seems every game has it.
Apparently the new consoles use some weird ass ram usage. I think people posted that the ps4 has a 8gb pseudo vram. And you gotta take out in context that probably the experienced and veteran developers/porting teams have retired.
The last ubisoft game that ran at constant 60 fps for me was assassins creed rogue and that was because it was a ps3 game anyway.

I think its 4GB for the OS and 4GB of VRAM for the games
iirc the X1 works the same way

Far Cry 4's got some fun extra gimmicks and the gameplay is still solid, but it's still more of the same. For that you might like it.
Story is still kinda bad but it isn't as heavy as 3. Still has tons of moments of hamfisted pretentious bullshit and empty emotionless scenes. But for some reason it felt easier to ignore all the stupid shit compared to 3.
As someone who's got a ridiculously high standard for AAA games, I can only recommend Far Cry 4 on the cheap as its only saving grace is being a fun time-waster.
They should've just gone full Turok and kept the guns and vehicles in the pre-historic setting.
That would be pretty rad.

i liked it just because Pagan min was in the entire game and honestly points out that you're no better than he was. Plus he didn't die half way and was replaced with a random person who was boring as shit character wise.

By shit story, I mean Far Cry 3 was just edgy cringe of some guy who goes all in on the "Alice in Wonderland = DRUGS" shit.
If Far Cry 4's crime is just being boring or something I'll take it :v:
Yeah but the characters in 3 were good at least.
[sp]you're really not supposed to like either sibling[/sp]
Yeah but the characters in 3 were good at least.
Nope.
Only the main character was intersting. I didn't care for his douche rich white kids, I didn't care for the replacement after Vaas was killed unceremoniously, and by the end of the story I just wanted to punch the head writer.
The ending was either logically stay since you're changed and get killed for it, or return but everyone is fucked up or literally fucked.
I mean seriously, my hate for Far Cry 3's story is the same level and ire as my hate for the writing for the main plot to Borderlands 2.

I think Jason and his friends were supposed to be unlikable. Californian rich kids are douches, so it gets them right.
The cast of villains is great though. Sure I would've preferred Vaas to Hoyt, but Vaas was never supposed to be the main villain. Michael Mando just gave that good of a performance. Also Buck was really great, along with Citra. I also liked how much of a psychopath fuck Jason got over the story. I mean sure the looking at his hands covered in blood going "what have I become" was pretty bad, but it wasn't as bad as "HEY LOOK AT MY WACKY VOICE. LITTLE KIDS SHOULDN'T TALK LIKE THIS RIGHT? AHAHAHA SO RANDOM"
I dunno I'm like 8 hours in right now and I'm enjoying this game so far.
I have yet to run into any performance issues except for when I go back to the village, my frames go from like 80 to 50 on Ultra settings.
This is all 1080p. I rarely run games at 1440p anymore since I prefer the higher frames unless it's like an MMO or something.
Him calling it Far Cry Unity is hilarious because this game is nowhere near as buggy as Unity. The only bugs i ran into were ragdolls suddenly flying at mach 2 and a mammoth ragdoll spinning on death which actually killed me.

You're missing the completely hilarious moment where he blatantly says that murdering people is like winning a swim meet to him. It was so out of place and brute forced that I spit my drink out when I heard it.

Funny that you mention it, the original idea was a Jurassic Park sort of idea where you were trapped on a island full of dinosaurs while you still had guns and such.

IT FEELS LIKE WINNING
I dunno, maybe I like Far Cry 3's story because how campy Jason is. It's like a B movie in game form.
