I wouldn't call this a discussion; more like atheists trying to force people to stop believing in religion
Also to Badal - thank you for posting that. Why can't atheists and religious people just get along?
read a book on memetics if you want to know why people fight over ideas, then read a book on culture lag if you want to know why i want to teach people why there beliefs are not true. in fact culture lag would be caused by bad memes now that i think about it
So you want people to stop believing in things that give them comfort. You know, this goes directly against your idea that you don't bother religious people.
isnt not like im going to go bother christains or anything because they dont believe what i do
I dont want to bother them, if i can get them to see for themselves that there relgion is false then thats good for me, and there are other ways of doing it besides bothering them (in fact just bothering them probably will make things worse) but like i said before this is a thread and its made to discuss things and no one has to discuss if they dont want to
Hey guys, I believe that 2+2=5, please respect my beliefs because I think I am right and it makes me feel safe that 2+2 is 5.

Hey, Logic ain't self-proving and numbers are derived from nothing. If you were working in a different base mathematics then that could be right. I don't know why it makes you feel safe but ok.

2 + 2 does equal 5.
[sp]for extremely large values of 2[/sp]

No it doesn't, unless you apply rounding to those very large values of 2.

...did you read the spoiler?
I wish I still believed in god. It made death less of a shitty notion.
One might say that an atheist's goal in life is to "improve the world through science", but I don't get any satisfaction from knowing the world will be better - I get satisfaction from enjoying myself, and heaven is a more enjoyable constant than my consciousness fluttering out when I die.
Why couldn't you have made the bible more convincing, Christianity?!
...did you read the spoiler?
Yeah, and it's still wrong. 2.3 and 2.3 still don't equal 5 unless you round them.

Of course they don't, they are not large values of 2...

use science to cure death then
Scientists and Creationists could both learn a lot from each other if they weren't so busy insulting each others beliefs.
Scientists and Creationists could both learn a lot from each other if they weren't so busy insulting each others beliefs.
a scientists job is to learn the most about anything
but isnt a scientists job to learn the most about anything
"Anything" would include religion. Because you know, it's anything.
You are a prime case of what I posted earlier. It's people like you who gives atheists a bad reputation.
"Anything" would include religion. Because you know, it's anything.
that was my point
that was my point
Uhh, rephrase your point. You worded it like you were trying to prove me wrong, but you basically agreed with me.
You are a prime case of what I posted earlier. It's people like you who gives atheists a bad reputation.
i dont think i ever said anyone who thinks differently then i do should die or anything like that. the thing that gives atheists bad reputations isnt as much of the things they do but what people already expect of them, because the worst thing you can do to an idea is not believe in it making the believers of that idea offended and make assumptions. the reason why we seem to be so bad is because are ideas are so much not like your meaning that while a gay person can say gay pride and most will root for him an atheist doing the same thing will be considered bad, not to mention that out of almost all beliefs atheists are one of the most mute about it.
why does imasillypiggy even try to argue about religion? all he ever accomplishes is making an overused quasi-intellecual point with horrible grammar and then fails to reinforce it.
"Anything" would include religion. Because you know, it's anything.
most "professional atheists" know more about religion than most religious people

oh no im trying to defend my belief im using logic, im sorry that that offended you

um what are you trying to say
most "professional atheists" know more about religion than most religious people
Same thing with agnostics, it's pretty crazy.
oh no im trying to defend my belief im using logic, im sorry that that offended you
i haven't witnessed a single ounce of logic in any of your posts in this thread. try again kiddo.
Humans deserve to be free. You can't find any scientific proof of this as it's so ambiguous in a scientific sense but rather precise in a sociological and philosophical sense. People believe it because the feeling that they deserve rights rather than they are just lucky enough to have them is good. I'm sure you wouldn't mind if people tried to convert people to that aspect but it holds not much ground scientifically. It is irrational and just something that makes people feel better when they believe it?

when being an an argument you can either make a counter point, but of course there is always the shortcut of just making a blanket statement or find an unrelated fault in the person your arguing with to make it seem not only to you but to other people that you won. now please now that that is out of the way can you make a real point

The reason why is because that's a goal not a fact and goals can be best solved with science

You need to step back and read what you are writing, because I have no fucking idea what you are trying to say.
[editline]29th October 2010[/editline]
The run on sentences don't help for starters.
terrible grammar
Ok, your so-called 'counter points' don't make sense either, and no one can understand what you are trying to say.
So why don't you take elementary spelling and grammar then come back
Edit:
You also don't have logic in your posts either. All you basically said so far (or what I understood) was that science is good and religion is bad, but you don't really have anything to back up your claims.
And stop contradicting yourself. Last page you clearly said that you "don't bother religious people" but then what are you doing now?

Sorry I go onto tangents when writing. my main point is that he should make an argument agiansts the things I said instead of just saying "lol your wrong"
