Excuse me if I come off as ignorant towards anime, but I have said this a million times. If every anime was the same quality and had the same coolness factor as cowboy bebop I would be a massive weeb. Most anime just makes me cringe now.
Cowboy Bebop was pretty good but it was nothing I would honestly write home about in terms of content. It would be probably one of the first if not the first anime I would recommend to people who are skeptic about anime in general but the show didn't blow my mind or anything.
This is that one what has the corgi in it, right?
Tell me, is it worth watching?
Ive watched a lot of the more popular anime, mainly shit the took off great in the west(regardless of translation or not)
Bebop is still by far the best anime, and easily, one of the best shows I have ever seen in my entire life, I mean id put this shit up their with sopranaos, breaking bad, GoT, etc...
I could get into like pages worth of reasons why its so good but I do not want to spoil it for a second no matter how insignificant.
All I can say is, out of all the animes I have ever seen, the ones before I was born and after, Bebop is by far the best I have ever seen. Anyone whos against "anime" for whatever reason is doing nothing but a disservice to themselves by not watching bebop.
Its a like 12-14 episodes(forget), each only like 24 minutes, but each as is as good as the last. Its the least disappointing, least time wasting, and one of the best animated animes in existence.
Its one of the few animes where the English Voice Actors absolutely put every other language VA to shame, its a series that honestly needs to be watched in english.
Its animation is one of the best in terms of episodic anime regardless of how old it is.
Post-modern if your into that and artsy.
Original and better yet, not a single thing like it in any media ive ever seen.
Seriously, its like a 12-14 episode long anime(forget how much) and each episode is as good if not better than the last.
Its the only anime id ever recommend to anyone and everyone regardless of their views on anime.

26 episodes.
26 episodes.
It sure feels like 13, though.
YES. Not long ago I was asking my friend if they ever made this into hd to star watching it.
The blu-ray version looks good, but it janks some of the colors.
If you haven't seen the series it's definitely worth a watch, but for purists I'd go with Cowboy Bebop: Remix.

I much prefer the top image, the bottom one makes it look non 20th century, which is kinda the charm of those animus imo
Uh, no... I was talking about Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
oh the fotns knockoff
oh the fotns knockoff
The early parts parody Fist of the North Star. As it progresses past Part 2, it becomes it's own thing and develops it's own style. It's actually extremely good and the art is fantastic. Only people who don't know what they're talking about take it at face value from the parts that came out 25 years ago. Jojo is one of the most popular manga series in the world and it's characters inspired things like Guile and Rose from Street Fighter, and there's even a Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy episode that pokes fun at it.

tl;dr: URRRRREEEEAAAAD THE MANGA
Is it bad I literally never heard of this until now?

while i don't necessarily agree with this i definitely know that sort of 90s vintage look you're talking about. like the sort of crt-bleed in the colors and the fuzziness definitely give it a certain vibe that's evocative of that. i like both though.

nah, but you should watch it. im the type that never buys into hype so i didn't end up watching the show until like last year, just figuring that people were gettin obsessed over nothing. but holy heck they weren't kidding, it is a very good television show. i would definitely say it's one of the pinnacles of its medium.

For me, Cowboy Bebop was perfect because it was like an anime made for westerners who weren't necessarily into anime. It incorporated western music, pop culture and other references, which
made it easy to relate to from the first minute. No annoying "kawaii" anime tropes, jpop or over the top characters who act like aliens.
Each episode was memorable and there was no filler, the characters were adults, not teenagers (except for Ed, who was tolerable) and the overall tone of the show was more adult oriented, but still had great humor.

The reason people in the West like Cowboy Bebop so much is because it's a Seinen - Anime or Manga intended for older men. All of the stuff people hate is not even marketed to you, usually it's for small boys or girls (and weebs). Notice how most of the good stuff mentioned in this thread has mature subject matter and characters that matter? There's a reason for that, it's all Seinen, not Shōnen.

i haven't seen an anime like this in over 3 years and i watch at least 5 a season
where do you guys find these animes are you specifically looking for them or something

presumably the usual way of never actually watching any

Even anime that is otherwise good sometimes has "anime tropes" that are a little immersion-breaking. To cite a show that I like, FMA: Brotherhood has moments like that every now and then where the characters are drawn all simplified and exaggerated (like where Alphonse looks like a grey ghost), and while they're tolerable, moments like that do break the dramatic tension. Maybe that's intentional?
Anyway, some people don't like anime tropes, even the minor things. Which is understandable, I guess.

That's why I can't take FMA seriously and alot of animes in general. They got that shit sprinkled in that really brings the mature content down to a 12 year old level.

You do know FMA's target audience isn't really that old? FMA isn't a "mature" anime at all and it has plenty of comedy elements.

FMA is a shounen anime, originally published in a shouen magazine, thus it's target demographic is 12 year old boys
so not sure what you were expecting??
go watch a seinen/josei anime if you don't want it to have shounen tropes and occasional comedic relief
Jeez, calm down guys don't need to lecture me with all these Nippon terms about how I got the Japanese demographic system wrong.
Probably not the only westerner who thinks a show that has grotesque violence and depictions of abominations might have been for someone older then a tween.
But I still stand by my opinion FMA would have hugely benefited if it cut the trope crap. It serves no purpose but to keep people who will repeat it like a parrot entertained.

No, the same demographic exists in the west too, just that Japan has a more easily identifiable phrase for it. The manga that the anime is based on was originally published in Shounen Jump(?) and Shounen literally means younger boy.
You are having expectations of the show that are misplaced as it perfectly fits the target demographic however it is one of the better shows catered towards that demographic.
Japan is just more open with what it will depict in the media. Maybe not exactly 12 year olds but FMA is definitely targeted towards teenagers.

that's like expecting adventure time to not have childish jokes and crude humor
would it benefit from not having it? certainly! i might actually enjoy watching it then. but i'm not the target demographic unfortunately, and it's going to continue doing whatever it needs to in order to pander to it's demographic.
you can still enjoy it regardless if you want though, as many people do

it was published in shounen gangan, which is by square enix
young gangan comparatively is the seinen magazine by square enix
Well it's just sad that I really haven't found a anime to come close to what I experienced with Cowboy Bebop.
It's like the same feeling I get with Metal Gear Solid games. Kojima is a guy who obviously isn't xenophobic and is able to capitalize on the wide range of emotions the spectrum has to offer. Cowboy Bebop didn't blow me away, but it sure as hell was grounded in its universe with little to no tropes.

I totally agree with that. Never said I didn't enjoy FMA, just that it could benefit without the awkward moments, much like Adventure Time.
It's just that with Adventure Time's awkward moments I can accept more often cause they usually can't be found copy and pasted from a gazillion other shows like it.
started watching this anime it's pretty good

Did you try Ghost in the Shell? I'm not saying it'll give you the same thing you experienced - I'd guess they would evoke different things to begin with because of different themes, not to mention subjectiveness and tastes - but it's another series that comes highly recommended.
(The Tachikomas aren't for everyone, but they certainly did serve their purpose in the plot.)
oh the fotns knockoff
Maybe i missed something, but please point out when Kenshiro had a fisticuff ghost buddy.
what are you guys talking about? jojo is nothing like fist of the north star.
part 1 was about dio the vampire while part 2 was about dealing with ancient beings that have awoken to fuck shit up
Jojo isn't even a Fist of the North Star ripoff in the first part other than the art style, and the author's art style was pretty awful at the time. It doesn't really come into its own until the second part. Part one is a good introduction to the madness but it doesn't become incredible and extremely clever until the second part.
Was gonna say something about Bebop but it's pretty much all been said. Bebop's not amazing but it's perfect for people who don't watch or like anime. Finding more stuff that you like if you despise most anime and their assorted tropes is just a matter of digging and patience.
I think it's time to blow this scene.
Get everybody and their stuff together.
not really a ripoff but part 1 reads like a HnK fan fiction
