I don't understand how this would get through the rigors of evolution if it didn't have a purpose of some sort, like sexual mimicry. I don't know if you have noticed but homosexual people are born from heterosexual couples. It's not a genetically passed attribute that can be eliminated by natural selection.
And there is a purpose for homosexual animals in herds. They don't waste time during mating on fucking or after mating season on watching over the children so they can keep watch or get food. They can also serve as foster parents as they don't have children on their own. Small amount of members of a larger herd who don't have children on their own was beneficial to the herd.
Maybe gay men evolved for the same reason there are gay lizards and fish and whatnot: smaller animals were unable to compete with 'alpha males' in direct contention for mates, so instead they would pass themselves off as female, mimicking female behaviors and allowing the alpha-lizards and alpha-fish to fuck them, in order to be allowed to stay in the alpha males' territory. Then they'd fuck the female lizards and fish and whatnot when the alphas went off to hunt or sunbathe. This would continue their genes and go on to produce more female-mimicking betafish and betalizards and beta-whatnots.
Assuming gay men exist for this same reason, it would explain the effeminate voice (a natural inclination to imitate female behavior), and it would also explain why there aren't a lot of 6'2 'alpha male' type gay dudes who speak this way. One thing that doesn't make sense is that as far as I know, effeminate gay men don't feel any attraction toward women, and so the piece of the puzzle that's missing is the human equivalent of the "Then they'd fuck the female lizards and fish and whatnot when the alphas went off to hunt or sunbathe" part.
More simply, you could also just see it this way: men normally fuck women, gay men want to fuck men, so some of them behave like women.
Ay this is a real thing you funny-raters: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_mimicry
this is a very funny post

Purpose is a human concept and doesn't actually exist. Life does understand cause and effect, and there are many things that could change a baby's hormones while it's still in the womb or even afterwards. It isn't a large enough phenomenon to affect the entire species in any huge way (homosexuals only make up 1.6% of the population) so gaying ourselves to death really will never happen.

Genetics doesn't work in this direct way, there's such a thing as latent genes.
Purpose is a human concept and doesn't actually exist.
Of course, but what else should I use as shorthand for the tendency for nature to select for traits which will most surely result in a creature's genes' continuation?
I don't disagree with the rest of your post by the way, of course homosexuality isn't a threat to humanity. If anything it's helping things a tiny bit. We could use less people on Earth.
as a gay person I don't sound that gay
I just hope people don't go "OH BUT YOU DONT SOUND GAY" if I tell them
yeah thanks dickhead
I'm almost a little jealous of men who sound gay, since their voices are at least expressive. I just sound a robot, since my voice is so monotone. If you've ever heard David X Cohen talk, it's kinda like that.
gay 'accents' are actually really nice yeah
so much character can be expressed with their tone
Back when I was in grade-school I used to sound really girly/gay, I used to get made fun of for it all the time and I ended up trying hard to force deepen my voice throughout those years to avoid bullies and such. It sucks because I've been out of school and I'm trying to get more comfortable with who I am but I'm just so used to force deepening my voice that I can barely help it even around friends and loved ones.

And the reason those genes stayed is the one I gave you in the part of the post you have snipped out for some reason.
i know a lot of gay people irl and i don't know any one of them who has any of that stereotypical twist to their voice
i think it depends on accent/dialect/language and voice depth in terms of how common sounding like that is
It's something to do with vocal cognition I think
an effeminate high pitched voice is generally associated with females and also the sort of stereotypical gay guy, I think this idea sort of gets imprinted onto the brain when you're young, and since tv/radio characters normally portray gay guys as effeminate/lisping guys, the brain says "that's a gay guy" and remembers how to identify a gay guy
I guess that makes it a meme (in the classical sense)

Totally agree. I know some people who are flaming gay, but don't dress or sound the stereotype. While on the other hand I know people who fit the stereotype yet claim to not be gay at all.
I'm gay and I absolutely loathe the gay voice and I am generally dis-interested in the LGBT people that have it/use it. I know, my opinion sucks.
But I do recognize that it is an issue within the community whether it's acceptance or wanting to be recognized/seen.
Man this made me feel bad, because I have a gay friend and I always laugh at him and teach him how to speak with deeper voice
As a bisexual (male with a boyfriend), I never sounded different from any heterosexual man. On the other hand, I knew gay men all around the voice range, from extreme version of it, to light version of it, to sounding like any other man.
It is very obviously associated with gayness for a reason.
It's not uncommon, nor a coincidence.
There's some correlation, and we don't REALLY know what it is or why.
That's what makes it so interesting.
It's because those types of voices are softer spoken and more feminine sounding that's why.
The typical assumption is that a man is rugged and tough, and has a deep and/or stern sounding voice to accompany that. I'm not saying any of this is the way it should be perceived up front, but I do believe that's why the association is made.
Saying we don't know why is wrong in my opinion, it's everywhere in nature. There are many things that allow living creatures to distinguish each other from male and female, and the way each other sound is obviously a vital part second only to looks.
I remember in secondary school, if someone sounded gay, there was always the question going around if they were gay or not, and for every one of those, someone would always say "No man they're not gay, they just did a lot of drama lessons as a kid, I saw him pull some girl one time". And now that we're all in college, all of those guys bar one has come out as gay. Still think that last guy might come out, his family is really religious, so that might put him off.
Like I don't think that every "gay sounding" guy is gay, and I won't jump to conclusions, but from personal experience, it's a fairly accurate indicator.
