Taliban ambushes Infantry patrol - Rambo Draws Fire for his Squad, is hit 4 times

Wow, very lucky fellow to take four rifle rounds and still being able to walk on his own.
Had the rifle round come in a tiny different angle on his helmet and he'd be seriously wounded, or even dead.
This man deserves a medal for going out to sacrifice his own life to ensure that atleast the rest of the squads make it out.
I know that, I was just wondering why he was walking so much around in the open.
Because 60-80 pounds of gear on a 35 degree rocky ass incline is impossible to navigate with any speed, especially with 7.62 fragments that shattered on the rocks at his feet ripping through his lower legs (You can see blood at one point) The guy even takes a tumble at the beginning of the video the place is so steep and the rocks are so loose.
Luckily the 4 shots that did hit him didn't penetrate his body armor. Dude's going to be all over CNN in a week and probably be recommended for a bronze or silver star, and no he probably wasn't aiming at any specific target, that's not what suppressive fire is
If there's one thing call of duty and battlefield taught me in life is that you never go down a coverless slope/mountain when there's a bunch of campers aiming at you.
this guy is a complete fucking badass

i mean. dude, he was charging through fire. they're most likely firing 7.62 rounds which are fucking massive.. probably why they couldn't fuckin hit him either
[editline]26th September 2012[/editline]
but if i found myself in that position, like i was the only chance my squad had, i see it going down exactly like it did for him, if i didn't fuckin die.
imagine doing something that fucking daring and unfucking the situation in the process all in front of your buddies. dude this guy is going to be a company legend for at least a decade.
It was brave, but highly reckless and to be perfectly honest it's a miracle he wasn't pumped full of rounds. A 'badass' would respond with tactics that didn't involve such blatantly dangerous actions with a massive potential to kill not only him but probably compromise the whole situation a lot more. He's flat out reckless more than anything.

but those were his intentions, he wanted to be seen and he wanted to be shot at, he was drawing fire for the rest of his squad to get to safety, reckless? yes, badass? fuck yes.
I can just feel all the stress that he had by even just looking at the video.
That guy is a champion, although my second view was mostly spent looking for enemies. I couldn't see them.

you never can in these videos
one thing these videos definitely do is illustrate how unrealistic and stupid videogames are compared to a real life & death situation.
yet films and games are the only real comparisons most of us can make, so utterly dehumanized, which is why for me this is always a shock to see.
tl;dr "omg its nothin like cod"
The whole video I kept questioning, where the fuck is the rest of his squad? Why is no one helping him? I understand they want to take cover as well, but your guy is out in the fucking open, get him to where your cover is at least.
God damn, that is fucking frightening seeing rounds land so close to his feet, and hearing him actually get hit. Holy fuck man.
What a genius.
Draw fire from your squad, but when he's hit his squad must come back to save him, getting into even more open ground than when they were pinned.
He's lucky the Taliban suck ass at aiming

He was drawing fire for his squad for them to aim better.
Oh man when he got shot it was pretty fucking gut-wrenching. Stoic motherfucker just keeps on going after getting shot.
Amazing what a bit of adrenaline will do for you to keep you going.

Rate him dumb all you want but he's right for christs sake.
The fact he got shot 4 times is enough evidence to show this was poorly thought out in every aspect, it's your job to keep casualties to an absolute minimum and peeling back slowly to potentially flank them might have been a smarter option that drawing fire that way.
I mean look at where the guy was at when the video ended, he dropped his gun and was completely stuck with 0 cover. How can anyone call him a badass when really he's stupidly lucky to be alive? I respect servicemen/women highly but I can't deny when someone makes a silly decision.
Also they don't really suck at aiming, the fact they hit him 4 times from that range and one of the shots plugged through the launcher on his rifle makes it evident they had a clean bead on him.
War is a terrible terrible thing

That might have been the best option. His whole team was pinned down by machine gun fire. Often times, you can't move away from these ambushes without landing yourself in the firing lane of one of your enemies. Someone needs to draw fire so the entire team can either move to neutralize the ambush or escape.
I mean the alternative is waiting while under fire.
So many master strategists up in this thread.

True but in this situation, he was exposed to a point that meant there was a stupidly slim chance of him living and obviously he very barely did. He may as well have just sprinted towards the firing point(s) guns blazing and the danger of the situation would've been the same.
If he had died or become too injured to actually function at all, then his whole squad would have been slaughtered unless they found a way to peel back.

Whoever rated this guy dumb, please do this yourself.
What this man did was brave, those 7.soviet rounds are massive but they do catch a lot of side wind over long range.
Guy is lucky it wasnt a closer range fight.
The fact that he went through all this just to draw fire from his team makes it 100% cooler.

It's the fact he's all "yeah he's gonna look so cool to his friends I would totally do the same thing" about it that earned him boxes.

Cooler?
Please fuck off, you've never come close to this and the amounts of bricks you would shit would be good enough to house entire Africa in Playboy mansions.
It's one hell of a situation to find yourself and your buddies in, calling it cool is fucking redicules.
Take bullets for your fellow men? Allowing them to see their families when they get back home and knowing you would probally not?
Cool isnt quite the word dont you think?

Well, you and I weren't in the situation so it's hard to say whether this was truly the best choice or not. However, I am going to make the assumption that since this guy willingly walked out of cover to draw fire away that it was close to the only choice they really had.

Agreed, I can understand extreme measures at times but it's just the fact that he was in such an area and very nearly died on the spot that makes me think it was almost TOO reckless. Though as you say unless we knew the full situation it's hard to say 100% whether or not another method could be used.

Still you're under adrenaline and maybe he thought.. "well if it's just going to be me rather than one or two of my buddies" and ran off?
I've heard and seen crazier shit people do under stressfull situations.
Also I believe thats a PKM firing at him, judging by the distant riflefire.
ROF seems too low to be an RPK or something like that.

Calm down, will you? I didn't mean to offend you or anyone else.. I highly respect the men and women of the armed forces and this video is one of the many reasons why I do. But let's face it, who wouldn't be shitting bricks in a situation like that?
What he did was brave. Does brave sound better to you?

They are trained to cope though, if he isn't able to make good decisions and avoid risks while under pressure then he shouldn't have ran out there. Even if he was leading them all, someone should have talked him out of it.
As I said before I think him running out there knowing full well there's a high chance he could die, that would mean that his team would be fucked as they would have to take on the ambush as well as get him out of there. It's good that he pulled through and that his team got out but if I were somebody else in his group right there I wouldn't have felt very assured knowing he was running out there to potentially get shredded in seconds.

We in the Australian Army refer to this as mateship. Better you than your mates.

arma can when its played seriously. i mean of course youre not going to get the adrenalin of a life or death situation, but you use the same tatics if you want to live.
