• Taliban ambushes Infantry patrol - Rambo Draws Fire for his Squad, is hit 4 times

What a horrifying video.
There are 2 things I don't understand about this video: 1) Why is he on his own, on a mountain side where the Taliban can easily take him down? 2) Why is he aimlessly firing into nowhere?
I would be pissing and shitting myself if I were in his shoes.
Most fearless and calm badass of all armies of all time.
arma can when its played seriously. i mean of course youre not going to get the adrenalin of a life or death situation, but you use the same tatics if you want to live.
Sometimes ramboing is way to common though.
So are they terrible shots or is missing that much normal?
So are they terrible shots or is missing that much normal?
It depends on where they were positioned. Being far away, untrained, and trying to aim a machine gun doesn't usually help when it comes to accuracy. And anyways, their shots were getting pretty close later on
So are they terrible shots or is missing that much normal?
I don't think they were that horrible considering he was hit 4 times.

He isn't on his own, his squad was nearby but he was drawing fire away from them 2. He wasn't, he was laying down suppressive fire on the people shooting at him.
I would have crawled up and tried to cover my torso/as much of myself as i could behind that rock there on his left at the end of the video. Why didnt he?
perhaps they could've thrown smoke? or would that spread too slowly/propagate inefficiently for this kind of situation?
perhaps they could've thrown smoke? or would that spread too slowly/propagate inefficiently for this kind of situation?
Probably would have just shown everyone in the valley where he was.
Shit, I couldn't even see where he was shooting at. It looked like he was just shooting at the hills.
True but in this situation, he was exposed to a point that meant there was a stupidly slim chance of him living and obviously he very barely did. He may as well have just sprinted towards the firing point(s) guns blazing and the danger of the situation would've been the same. If he had died or become too injured to actually function at all, then his whole squad would have been slaughtered unless they found a way to peel back.
I'm pretty sure all the fire on him drew it away from the rest of his unit long enough for them to get a better covering position from which they can suppress while the camera guy moves back to them - The insurgents would forget about the one guy who's on his own and start opening up on the ones shooting. It could've turned out much worse but in the event he took a risk and I'm guessing it paid off since the guy was still alive to post the video. Best TvT missions are all asymmetrical with a small but technologically superior force vs a larger, ill-equipped force. That or ShackTac style with Company-sized engagements.
Ofcourse there's someone in the comments that thinks these guys are marines. But who cares, this guy was a pretty brave mothafucka.

[editline]27th September 2012[/editline]
Sometimes ramboing is way to common though.
Thats why if you want to get rid of that, join a serious company like ST. They hold lare realistic engagements often.
Rate him dumb all you want but he's right for christs sake. The fact he got shot 4 times is enough evidence to show this was poorly thought out in every aspect, it's your job to keep casualties to an absolute minimum and peeling back slowly to potentially flank them might have been a smarter option that drawing fire that way. I mean look at where the guy was at when the video ended, he dropped his gun and was completely stuck with 0 cover. How can anyone call him a badass when really he's stupidly lucky to be alive? I respect servicemen/women highly but I can't deny when someone makes a silly decision. Also they don't really suck at aiming, the fact they hit him 4 times from that range and one of the shots plugged through the launcher on his rifle makes it evident they had a clean bead on him.
1 man down vs. a whole group of men down minimal casualties.
The whole video I kept questioning, where the fuck is the rest of his squad? Why is no one helping him? I understand they want to take cover as well, but your guy is out in the fucking open, get him to where your cover is at least. God damn, that is fucking frightening seeing rounds land so close to his feet, and hearing him actually get hit. Holy fuck man.
Well he said what he was going to do, but his squad never acknowledged him. That and they were getting suppressed.
My best guess, to all the people wondering why he's in the open running around, is that the enemies probably waited until they were about half way down the hill, furthest away from cover. Then they open up. Going back up that hill is going to be at least as slow as going down, and it's probably about the same distance to any likely cover. Given that, and in the heat of the moment, going down might seem to be (or be) a better decision in a less-than-ideal situation. But I don't know. I wasn't there.

I got in during an influx of about 100 newbies, just apply and be patient
perhaps they could've thrown smoke? or would that spread too slowly/propagate inefficiently for this kind of situation?
Smoke doesn't normally work likely does in RO2, it's more for marking stuff.
Bravery is stupidity with a positive outcome. Stumbling then fall down a hill in the open with zero cover to "draw fire" is retarded. Suppressing fire is used for a reason, to keep the enemies distracted with their heads down. And how did he help his squad at all when he got lit up then laid on the ground yelling I'm hit? I assume someone had to run over and help him out completely defeating the purpose of his idea
he handles being shot EXTREMELY well

really wish funker had more stuff on that interview w/ the soldier
arma can when its played seriously. i mean of course youre not going to get the adrenalin of a life or death situation, but you use the same tatics if you want to live.
i think you missed the point of what i said. all videogames dehumanize conflict. they turn it into simple simulacrum with winstates where war has no real consequences. when i see a video like this it instantly becomes clear to me how dehumanized it really is. when he was between those rocks there was a strong possibility he could die. there was no dehumanizing element, and like i said the only real comparison i have is film and videogames because i've never ever been in a war. it's a sobering shock, and i wonder how much of an influence it has on culture.
lol wow you should stop having opinions
you should simply stop posting. seriously stop following me around and bugging me. [editline]28th September 2012[/editline] in fact what the fuck was the point of that post in the first place? [editline]28th September 2012[/editline] tell me whatever boisterous bullshit, cause i already know you're simply taking the piss at the fact that i'm frowning upon armchair masters and in the same post state something that's common fucking knowledge. [editline]28th September 2012[/editline] i actually feel like a perfectly legitimized "piss off" is in order. piss off.
