his ranged option isnt his primary attack, all of his abilities have a really low cooldown, you're meant to be using them alot.
any doomfist thats gonna be using the shotgun more than his abilities is gonna be an awful doomfist.
yeah the shotgun is pretty underwhelming without doomfist's (all melee) abilities to back it up. It does pretty decent damage if you make good meatshots with it but it has a tiny magazine, a slow reload for overwatch and it's a projectile, which is especially damning for a shotgun.
really, you can think of doomfist's handcannon as a sort of punch. It offers decent close range single target damage without being the nightmare that is balancing a melee-only DPS character - they already tried to do it with Genji and he always ended up either nightmarish or underwhelming. the shotgun works much better as a combo weapon/finisher with his uppercut or rocket punch than it does as a primary, trust me.
I should try this
The saddest thing is that this is the best writing this game has had so far lmao
Nah the Bastion short was best cause he can't fucking talk. So they can't hamfist in any shitty dialogue.
lmao he isn't even a melee character
That's like saying Mercy isn't a healer because she has a blaster.
Hell, I'd wager that having a Mercy who doesn't heal would work out better than having a Doomfist that doesn't punch.
That's like saying Mercy isn't a healer because she has a blaster.

I'm just rather annoyed they refuse to not give all but 1 hero a gun. Like why even have the shotgun? I think most people would rather have punching that doesn't require cooldowns.

Quick Melee. Bam, punching with no cooldown.

Genji too but both of these characters have a ranged attack as well despite obviously being geared towards melee, idk why it's incorrigible with doomfist
this guy's not fucking around wow
I'm honestly really disappointed the guy rocket punching in the air and elbow slamming people isn't screaming like a wrestler and instead has the personality of cardboard, just generic cartoon bad guy boring
What did you expect?

Random thought but it occurred to me that blizzard has a thing for the non-peach skin femme fatale that has the exact same personality (Kerrigan, Sylvanas, Widow, probably a few hundred others)
also the game literally has the main character from Hatred

reaper's pretty obviously ironic
the talon heroes are honestly my favorite heroes in the game character-wise i'm pretty sure, with the possible exception of widowmaker
Old Spice Doomfist was always an awful idea. Imagine TC trying to pull off a West African accent.
His accent is so fucking generic anyhow. At least it makes more sense than a fucking robot having an accent.
His accent is so fucking generic anyhow. At least it makes more sense than a fucking robot having an accent.
Why would that be stupid? Orisa and Zenyatta both have region and character appropriate accents that were programmed by their creators or however Omnics are done, it only makes sense that they'd impart an accent out of habit if nothing else, just like they'd add on traditional colors or designs.
Doomfist was most likely already voiced and more or less finalized when Terry Crews hype started.
Also if they're bringing Terry Crews in at any point I feel like they'd want to make his character a good guy to fit his personality, although a perma happy bad guy would be pretty funny.
What did you expect?
I expected a personality to fit the kit of a lunatic with a giant rocket fist flying in the air and elbow slamming people, why the hell would you give this kind of character 0 charisma
I didn't think I could be more disappointed with the character personalities in overwatch but here we are

I agree with this, the other Talon operators have probably the most personality out of each of the characters even if those personalities are a bit one-dimensional, for them to not add any personality to this one, let alone such a legendary figure in the backstory, is a pretty big blow against the character.
i hate how they can't stop adding techy armor bits to everything. this guy would look much better without those mech feet. it'd even emphasize the fist more
I can't wait to find out the sexual orientation of Doomfist.
I think it's safe to assume he enjoys fisting.

From what I've read 90% of the people who wanted Terry Crews Fist just wanted black, evil Reindhart.
This is way better IMO, but I wish he had slightly more character. Maybe more war paint to up the "war makes progress" point

Yeah but at the same time it kinda makes sense to have enhanced legs, he already holds himself off-balanced to compensate for the weight. I can't imagine him trying to lug around Fisto without some kind of enhancement. For the most part I agree though, some of these designs could do with a dose of minimalism.

Iunno, I'd love TC Fist but this guy also works pretty well. His VA definitely has the chops to be intimidating and interesting but the writers just squander his talent.

That's who I was referring to. Also Genji isn't a melee hero at all, he just has a melee ult.
Quick Melee. Bam, punching with no cooldown.
Ah yes, 30 damage per punch. Truly something I want in a melee character.

This is generally the problem with Blizzard's character designs, they just egregiously over-design them. Although it's not nearly as bad in Overwatch as it is in Warcraft/Diablo.
Like, they often start off with a good design, but then they just bury it under layer after layer after layer of dumb stupid-looking ornamental bullshit until it looks fucking awful.

At least there's in-character reasoning for it - the dude is an exec at a huge prosthetics company. He got his arm replaced after the Omnic crisis but it barred him from competing in his main passion, competitive martial arts. Eventually the second Doomfist offered him the idea of mercenary work to help fill the void and he discovered just how powerful his enhancements could make him, so I'd assume he just got more and more replacements up until now where you can see panels and screws on every inch of his body.
what's it gonna take to get an overwatch anime

Oh, then it's good that the design is intertwined with the story. A lot of the characters I've seen don't get that treatment at all. Lúcio is apparently a hero because... he inspires people with music, and stole a tiny megaphone with "sonic technology" (gee Blizzard, that's some top-of-the-line technobabble). Did the giant cyborg legs with built-in laser skates not play enough of a part to get a mention in the backstory? His kit fits the theme well, but his design is lazy and uninspired. I find that the same is true for most of the Overwatch characters. It's not that they're not pleasant to look at, they just fail on a whole other level.

A lot of characters just haven't gotten much focus period because they're freelancers and so far the main conflict of the story is about Overwatch and Talon.
I'm willing to overlook Lucio's skates, they mention in passing that he's a huge fan of hockey and all. I'm more weirded out by how Lucio is said to have lead a popular uprising against a massive corporation apparently ruthless enough to have the building of a competitor blown up when they were passed up for a contract. It's doubtful they'd cave to a peaceful uprising, so what- did Lucio lead an armed rebellion? That doesn't seem very in-character, honestly.

It's kind of weird that he has like no personality because even in his character backstory he was praised by coworkers (when he was an exec at the prosthetics corp) and mercenaries in Talon for his leadership skills and charisma, don't get why they wouldn't even try to implement any of that so-called charisma in game.
