I gotta say with all the remakes coming out, it seems like they're starting to learn to keep things like the old games to some degree. Very pleased to see the revenant is closer to the original design. Though the technological part of him has that Wolfenstein: The New Order look. It's funny how in comparison to Doom 3's revenant the parts looked alot more quaky with a full silicone body injection to boot.
I always thought it was some sort of force field holding the bones together
As long as this plays and feels like wolfenstein I'll be happy
Hell no. I want this to play and feel like an upgraded 90's shooter. This series of tweets/impressions from last year is pretty promising.
is that next gen? i even watched it at 1080p and it looks like saints row 4 on medium
So, what, no subtitle to differentiate it from the original '94 game? I really hope they're not doing that.
The future is reboots

I think the new Wolfenstein is the perfect way to make a modern FPS that doesn't feel old but stays true to classics FPS games.
Wait, it has a rating already? How soon to release is it? [editline]18th May 2015[/editline] oh, the ESRB rating is still pending.

Gameplay, while still great, felt nothing like the older shooters. Rise of the Triad's remake captured the whole "90s shooter feel" much better without feeling outdated. God, I hope this is moddable. One of my favourite aspects of Doom games has to be the extent you can screw with them.

If you wanted to survive, you'd have to lean out from behind cover for the really tough encounters, which is the opposite of what you did in classic Doom. Don't get me wrong, I think TNO is awesome, I just want the old schoolness to be taken up a few notches for Doom. Oops, accidentally typing shouldn't instead of couldn't really changed the meaning of what I was saying. :v:

What game did you.play?
TBH TNO felt more like an early 2000s shooter in gameplay than a 90s shooter. Which was fine by me. It was satisfying as fuck and I don't think it really needed anything like super fast movement speed or anything like that. Doom on the other hand is against demons. I loved sliding between cover in wolf and the intensity combat had, but a slower pace with cover based shooting wouldn't really fit against doom's monstrosities IMO. Also I didn't really enjoy the ROTT remake at all when I played it. EDIT: You can run and gun in Wolf, but it's a lot slower than something like Quake or Doom's run-and-gunning, or even HL's
I always ran at enemies and shot them when I played Wolfenstein, the only other thing I did was look for health items when I was low, I barely ever sat behind cover.
I don't know how you could manage that without dying a whole lot. You can't dodge hitscan weapons, you can only take cover or absorb the damage with your face. That would be absolute suicide on the harder modes. To me, the ideal mixture of modern and old school would be something like the latter half of Serious Sam 3. It has a few modern conventions, but it's still all about running around, dealing damage with awesome weapons, and avoiding damage by sidestepping projectiles and charging enemies. Well, until you have to fight something like the technopolip or clone soldiers, fuck those guys. I'm not expecting Doom 4 to reach the same scale as Serious Sam, but I am hoping for more run and gun projectile dodging, because that's the real fun shit right there.
I hope Mick Gordon is doing this score. He did wonders on TNO.
He did nice work with Killer Instinct too.
I'm really really hoping this plays like Doom 1 & 2
Doomguy's hand looks very armored Seems like he's wearing power armour of sorts
Or you can shoot enemies before they shoot you.
Unless there's only one enemy with really low health, you can't do that.
I'm pretty excited for this. The PC Gamer tweets during their behind closed doors preview with the game last year at E3 sounded like it's going to be a complete bloodbath

Mod it into the game Revenant pops out of the shadows "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH" Wait, can I do this with Imp's in Doom 3? If yes, then like 80% of the sounds I'll hear in D3 would be loud orgasms, due to how many fucking Imps there are.
I always thought it was some sort of force field holding the bones together
i always thought it was skin, or at least a substitute for skin that's translucent. I always imagined revenants as being visually similar to like a REALLY REALLY waterlogged corpse or something.
is that next gen? i even watched it at 1080p and it looks like saints row 4 on medium
most games released still look like last gen and still run like ass most of the time so consider it a good thing you don't need to upgrade if you have like 2 year old hardware
Is this post borked for anyone else?
Is this post borked for anyone else?
world's biggest doom reveal
i'm wondering if the footage shown at e3 is going to be different than the one i saw at quakecon
Very short, but it was enough for me to go DOOOOOOMED
Let's get in the spirit
I take wolfenstein and shadowwarrior as upgrades to the original 90's version 90's shooters, while great, didn't have much. It was run and gun and collect stuff. Shadow warrior was a bigger version of it's former self, and I didn't really play the original wolfenstein but it seems like its just a simpler version. Modernization of 90's shooters is not a bad thing until you get trash like doom 3, or duke nukem forever, both being quite frankly awful
is that next gen? i even watched it at 1080p and it looks like saints row 4 on medium
It looks Idtech5ish but they called it Idtech6 So I imagine it's mostly just Idtech 5 rendering tech minus the reliance on megatextures, but still with a ton of the old material stuff Honestly, all it has to do is look as good as Wolfenstein. I'd be fine with that. Nothing wrong with targeting middling hardware.

so somebody leaked footage of a cancelled doom 4 project before this current one we're going to see at e3. https://vid.me/70wz be glad it looks like this now, because this canned footage looks more like rage 2 than it does doom. just mute the video because whoever uploaded it added in an awful guitar cover. [editline]18th May 2015[/editline] back in 2011 carmack said doom 4 would be more of a cinematic experience, which he presumably meant about this canned footage.
