so somebody leaked footage of a cancelled doom 4 project before this current one we're going to see at e3.

be glad it looks like this now, because this canned footage looks more like rage 2 than it does doom.
just mute the video because whoever uploaded it added in an awful guitar cover.
[editline]18th May 2015[/editline]
back in 2011 carmack said doom 4 would be more of a cinematic experience, which he presumably meant about this canned footage.

I thought the awful guitar cover was to put emphasis on how it's poop that looks nothing like Doom.
Seriously what the fuck IS this

I think it looks pretty nice.
It is NOT a Doom game though. Wouldn't guess that ever.
that, and getting rid of the pop-ins.
Wolfenstein's pop ins are very severe no matter how good your hardware is

It looks like every other game ever created that has some kind of resistance force fighting an invasion.
Oh god what have I done :v:

Something even the dev team at the time coined 'Call of Doom' because of how derivative, standard modern shooter it was. The fact that the higher-ups looked at it and just shut the whole thing down to be made supposedly more proper Doom-like says a lot considering Bethesda / ZeniMax.

jeeze, it really was a good thing that they decided to start all over.
would rather wait a bit longer for a good DOOM game than settle with that tbh.
Wolfenstein's pop ins are very severe no matter how good your hardware is
I had no visible pop-in on either playthrough.
Then again, I bothered to create a folder for the game to dump its texture cache.
Not really. You couldn't move fast and shoot at the same time. If you wanted to survive, you'd have to lean out from behind cover for the really tough encounters, which is the opposite of what you did in classic Doom. Don't get me wrong, I think TNO is awesome, I just want the old schoolness to be taken up a few notches for Doom.
Oops, accidentally typing shouldn't instead of couldn't really changed the meaning of what I was saying. :v:
I kind of have to disagree, when not on über difficulty TNO and TOB allowed for a decent amount of run and gun play, with the biggest times where you had to resort to stop and pop tactics actually being the nightmare segments recreating levels from the original Wolf3D because of their far more empty rooms and less generous health pickups.
Um but wolfenstien played played liked the 90s but still kept it modern? What game did you.play?
No it didn't. It played a lot like RTCW, which was released in 2001. RTCW is nowhere near as fast paced as Doom.
Counterquestion: What 90s shooters did you play?
am I the only one that didn't like TNO? I thought it was kinda of slow.
if its half as fast as the original, that's fine by me.
better for punching faces
Which is a fair point, since punching, kicking, ripping 'n tearing is a major game mechanic. Sure, you could blast those demons with your handy double-barreled super shotgun, or you could tear them apart with your bare goddamn hands if you're quick enough.
i miss the trend of upgraded video game guns just being the regular one a bunch of nonsensical barrels added all over it and having the SUPER prefix
[editline]18th May[/editline]
i always remember the one in quake 2 was a hugely oversized pump-action double barreled shotgun that ate twice your ammo and the viewmodel animation made it look like your guy had to raise up to like his fuckin collarbone just to pump it
It was a very Orkish way of going about it. Because more dakka is the best kind of dakka.
Hell, the heavy machinegun in Wolfenstein: The Old Blood appears to have been jury-rigged from four MG42s. And let's not forget the shotgun from Shadow Warrior, which started out with 2 but could be upgraded to 4, though sadly even adding more dakka wasn't enough to give it the kick and punch we seek in shotguns.
Also, Duke Nukem's machinegun was effectively a hi-tech infantry-size Nordenfelt gun, what with the three barrels in a row although regular Nordenfelts tended to have an average of 10 barrels (like the one below), sometimes even twelve!
Sadly I must remind YOU too:
and don't you forget it!
if Doom 4 calls the super shotgun the 'double barreled shotgun' exclusively I will probably start a riot. The purity of the status of the super shotgun as being 'super' and but a humble shotgun shall always be maintained, to encroach on it is to tear down the very meaning of Doom. It is unacceptable.
Call it a double barrel, then add in an actually Super Quad-barreled shotgun.

I doubt it'd be fully possible if monsters like Hell Knights can supposedly pimpslap rockets aside like gnats.

Berserk packs.
Does this mean no Fallout 4 reveal?

People can Tyson run all of Doom.
Even this.

Doom 3 is my favourite Doom in a lot of ways. Sure, it used a lot of jump-scares and was dark as fuck (part of what made it good imo), but at its time it was visually stunning, you still get to shoot lots of demons with cool space guns (the chaingun's awesome) and they were trying something "new" with the PDAs, audio logs and an actual storyline. I can't think of anything I don't like about Doom 3, maybe the relatively slow pace but hey, it fits. If it played like the original 2, it would've been a waste imo.

I completely agree; that, and the game had a LOT of content and has a lot of replayability with just how long it is.
Hasn't the game been through numerous iterations and failed concepts?
I think this will turn out great if they know what they want this time around. Looking forward to a new DOOM game.
few of the reasons i enjoyed doom 3 was its art style
the dark harsh shadows style of lighting was also a huge contributor too, which in itself was why i liked duke nukem 3d
I don't want this for Doom 4
I want a 80s-90s Heavy Metal album cover like Doom was.
But the new Wolfenstein felt as much like a 90s shooter as you could possibly get nowadays without making it feel really out-dated. I think the new Wolfenstein is the perfect way to make a modern FPS that doesn't feel old but stays true to classics FPS games.
Too linear.
We need design that actually encourages mappers to be creative with their layouts.
