I will be assured that Doom's purity has been maintained when they present me with one thing:
Circle-strafing.
That's one doomed marine.
It's not still on Id tech 5 is it? The only issue I had with wolfenstein was that awful engine
That bitch Pegi18 makes the best games
It's not still on Id tech 5 is it? The only issue I had with wolfenstein was that awful engine
It's on Id Tech 666, apparently. Their joke, not mine.

It's not using megatextures is it? That shit looked very pretty at a distance but ugly as shit up close (along with horrible texture pop in every time you turn your head)

get your Duke quotes right gosh
few of the reasons i enjoyed doom 3 was its art style
the dark harsh shadows style of lighting was also a huge contributor too, which in itself was why i liked duke nukem 3d
What kills me about Doom 3 is how bad the assets look how out it's engine and how brilliantly the engine makes everything look for it's time.
how bad the assets look how out it's engine
What
What
I can't find many good examples of what I mean, but:
[t]http://coberholzer.com/media/projects/cg/raytracer/img_doom3_show_case.png[/t]
Doom 3's models, for many things, are both low in poly count and texture size. Bluntly put, they don't look good on their own. Drag and drop them into Garry's Mod without some real nice lighting tricks and they look like garbage.
Granted, this was 2004, year of Half Life 2, UT2k4, Halo 2, etc.
But still, you can take this:
[t]https://www.planet-source-code.com/Upload_PSC/ScreenShots/PIC2005310144345841.jpg[/t]
Throw it in idTech 4, and you get:
[t]http://www.visualwalkthroughs.com/doom3/underground/41.jpg[/t]
And while not drastically better (pointy head), the lighting and ridiculously hard shadows really help hide the fact.
I often have rose-colored glasses about Doom 3, because I played it on the Xbox over an old-style CRT TV, often in the dark. Back then, how that engine handled lighting was a brand new thing to me and made the game both visually interesting, and kinda spooky. In retrospect, it was an excellent trick to make it look at lot better than it actually was.
tbh if I could choose between true 90's shooter, like rise of the triad, or something more 'modern' but not entirely, like Wolfenstein or Shadow Warrior, I'd go with the latter
90's shooters are great but have almost no flavor outside of shooting things, they were like that because of the tech at the time being limited. I'ts really great fun but it doesn't last too long.
It's not using megatextures is it? That shit looked very pretty at a distance but ugly as shit up close (along with horrible texture pop in every time you turn your head)
I thought Wolfenstein looked fine.
am I the only one that didn't like TNO? I thought it was kinda of slow.
if its half as fast as the original, that's fine by me.
Did you play it on a console? I did and it was a pain to get through because I'm not very good at aiming with a controller so the game was harder than it had to be
I thought Wolfenstein looked fine.
I've been playing it recently and have been noticing all sorts of issues, texture pop in when turning has been the worst so far (I'm on a 670gtx so it's not like I'm running it on a terrible card either), but also a lot of textures look garbage up close.

Wolfenstein wasn't really trying to be a 90's shooter though, it was much closer to RTCW than it was Doom or Quake.

whatever the case though, it felt a lot better
90's shooters are very blank
I loved shadow warrior, it was SO fun (original hd redux, 90's version), but it just kind of, ran dry

probably because doom 3 is a technical masterpiece and its visually consistent assets set the established standard for creating current-generation art assets everyone else would follow years later
iirc if you pre ordered the new order you were promised access to the beta
does that still apply
I remember getting really mad when game.co.uk had to cancel my TNO preorder because the copy got lost in shipping on release day specifically because I wanted that beta access.
I wonder if I still have a reason to get mad or if it won't matter anymore :v:
I hope Mick Gordon is doing this score. He did wonders on TNO.
He is.
Hasn't the game been through numerous iterations and failed concepts?
I think this will turn out great if they know what they want this time around. Looking forward to a new DOOM game.
at least four
YES
YEEEEEEEEEES
I've been playing Doom and Quake since I was five, and Doom is the origin of my username. I cannot be more excited for June 14th! Does anyone know where I can go to watch the livestream? (Unless there isn't even a website setup to host it yet. Just wanted to bookmark it.)
Imagine a brutal doom mod for this. Please allow mods please allow mods.

We can holy hope. But hopefully the game will be BRUTAL enough.
the hype is fucking real. if wolfenstein is anything to go by, then we are in for some good shit my friends

I mean, arms being ripped off and used as a weapon? pffftttt baby stuff, I need something BRUTAL-er
I wouldn't mind having gears of war-tier executions.
I'm already excited.

I just need a mod where you can flip a demon off and tell it "Go FUHK yourself", is that so wrong?
I hope that if there is ever a Brutal Doom 4, it has the ability to do a DOUBLE fuck yourself for DOUBLE brutality.

It's at E3, just check the E3 livestream (or the E3 thread in General Games Discussion, it has multiple links there)
