guy combines an Oculus Rift and an omnidirectional treadmill to make the most sweat inducing version

A horror game would be interesting.
One where you spend the majority of the game in a slow walk, but short bursts where running is necessary.
All I want this for is skyrim.

All I want this for is everything.
i feel like this would be pretty awkward on gamebryo games like skyrim and fallout, considering how clunky the movement is in them

Quick game of tribes or quake.
lost half your weight in an hour.

Just imagine strafe jumping in quake with this setup.
I just realized how amazing it would be to have VR gloves that actually just detect your hands and fingers positions with precision.
It's so bad.
i bet a play through of left 4 dead would be more sweat inducing for the whole running factor.
gta iv + 6 stars: feel what the boston suspect 2 felt yesterday
things that are too soon aside, this would be fucking awesome.
This would add an entire new dimension to competitive gaming. Just imagine, you're up against Captain Humongo Neckbeard, the finest shot with a Rocket Launcher in the history of Team Fortress 2, and you can't beat him. So you go Scout, and run about the level harassing him, and eventually his massive bulk keels over out of breath and you shoot him with your scattergun.
I want to play through Half-Life 2 with this so bad
This isn't an omnidirectional treadmill, it's just a slippery thing. You can't really walk naturally on it, you have to do a "special motion" with their "special shoes". I've seen this before.

Exactly. People aren't getting that. If you read the FAQ on the site it describes the tech decently. It still sounds stupid though IMO.

The motion doesn't look too different from normal walking on a sloped surface. Is it really that bad?
Yeah it looks pretty normal honestly.
You'd probably forget how to walk after a few hours

Walking around in a slippery bowl doesn't sound as fun as a treadmill
This disappoints me greatly
now we just need to improve the way sound is handled in video games as well as figure out a way to incorporate smell.

I think the military already has smell included in their VR training projects. It's not so much a difficult thing as it is expensive (you need a lot of different chemicals stocked to have many different smells) and developer intensive (immersion breaks if you don't smell things you really should, and all smells need to be programmed in).

Apparently feels very natural though, and is a lot cheaper and smaller than a "true" ODT. The creator of the Rift tried it out and has endorsed his support for the device.
The ultimate treadmill would be one that includes transferring tiny bumps in virtual terrain to your feet.
Thats awesome, but just imagine how hard it would be to beat someone with a mouse and keyboard on a mp game.

On a similar note, I'd really like to see a competition where all the players are in immersive VR setups like this.
weren't they developing some sort of sword controller too? I saw it before and it had Gabe Newel in it.
Anyway, that + oculus + this + skryim = pretty cool.

Combined with Skywind mod, and possibly voices if they do that, and I will spend most of my future in a nice house in Vvardenfell.
so much fucking want.
Need a tutorial on how to set all this up, would be amazing.
And much more useful than wiisports.
id kill for a game of bioshock infinite with hydra, the omni, and the oculus rift. that'd be amazing
I just imagined Mirrors Edge and... oh my.
