Fusion Adam and Other M Adam are two entirely different relationships. In Fusion for most of the game the extent of their "relationship" is Samus getting a computer named after Adam, and spends her time in the elevator to the next area musing on an old officer she had a lot of mutual respect for when she was in the military.

In Other M it's a completely different story. It's like the fan-fiction version, like how in every goddamn fanart ever Samus treats the baby metroid like a pet, and not like something she shoved in a jar and then immediately gave to a research facility the moment she got off of the planet. And they get close to that too what with THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY

On the subject of Other M,
I'll never understand why this whole "character development" thing was placed in a game near end of the timeline. If you're going to do something like that the least you could do is have it right in the beginning. Hell, it would have been better if they just made it an adaptation of the manga. The whole PTSD thing in it at least made sense at the time, not years and a dozen encounters with Ridley later. Not to mention that Ridley basically told Samus that he ate her mother during the encounter.

I feel like the best bit of character development for Samus, even if it was just a little bit, was the secret ending for Prime 3 where you see her take a break and reflect on the other coolbro bounty hunters, and how they all got killed.
