Man Dobson must be rubbing off on brental floss (The dude who's doing the brentalfloss comics and thinks Other M has a great story). STOP HIRING HIM AND HIS SHITTY IDEAS!
Man i hate you for bumping this to the top of the section, I had just forgotten this existed.
Watched that video yesterday on mdb. Animations are quite good considering it was made by a one person. But the music is awefull and the Story of that clip, too. As for Samus's character, i'd rather see her like Ripley from the Alien movies. I wouldn't say it's impossible for her to be in love with someone else, but i'd say it wouldn't be a scientist like that Ethan. Anyway, time to recover from that Clip now: Feeling better?
Remember that time in Other M where Samus is actually dying of heat because Adam forgot to tell her to turn on her Varia Suit? God damn Other M is terrible.

To make matters worse, Little Mac is only 4 feet 8 inches. In the newer game his height was increased to 5 feet 7 inches (which is the one they're using in that picture).
In my mind Samus will always be a badass bounty hunter who don't need no man.
wow wtf i'm just now reading the youtube comments for this trash and people actually like it even if you know nothing about metroid, it's still shitty animation and bad singing. what is there to appreciate about this??
I'm not even a Nintendo fan at all, yet I've gone out of my way to play Super Metroid in the past and the Metroid Prime games because they are so good and are brimming with atmosphere. Never actually played MP3 and after, but I still love the games, and this video is beyond retarded. One of the few games where I think acquiring the platforms they are on is worth it just to play them.
youtube comments
bingo
It's odd that some people characterise Samus like this. I mean even putting Other M aside, I've seen a couple other fan things that do something similar and it's just really odd to me. The whole series has been about Samus tackling a fucking intergalactic organisation of space pirates, infiltrating and destroying a number of their strongholds all by her fucking self, not to mention completely eradicating a dangerous parasitic species. Some people are intent on making Samus their ~waifu~, well fuck that, the Samus that continually fucks up the Space Pirates shit and don't need no man is my waifu, not some misty eyed wreck of a character.
are strong women not allowed to have romantic interests?
that's basically what lurkylurker is doing. i'm surprised that people haven't caught on to that. poe's law, i guess. anyways, other m just fucking destroyed samus' character. they made her into a man-dependent crybaby which made her actions in the games completely retarded. like, she kills every bad guy ever but suddenly she's all "oh.... love..... the baby... mhhh.... emotions, see, i'm quiet and reserved which means i'm a sensitive girl : ^ )!!! see gamers? i'm a girl!" horribly written and downright offensive, lol. samus doesn't really need backstory because the fact that she's a lady that kicks space dragon ass and goes on dangerous solo missions is proof of her being a good character. why? because she's just as capable as any man, and her gender has no effect on that at all.
How does having emotions and expressing them make you a lesser person? Elaborate
the thing with samus is that pre-other M since she didn't really have a concrete character everyone had separate ideas of what kind of person she was so now that they're apparently trying to take it in a story-focused direction you've got people arguing over whether she's a sensitive gentle soul looking for love or a bitter hardboiled veteran that lives for combat and the metroid fanbase is just a shitstorm now
la mulana does the things you want, and it's sequel just had a successful kickstarter
That's not really modern though, the basic level design is pretty much the same as the original which came out almost a decade ago
the thing with samus is that pre-other M since she didn't really have a concrete character everyone had separate ideas of what kind of person she was so now that they're apparently trying to take it in a story-focused direction you've got people arguing over whether she's a sensitive gentle soul looking for love or a bitter hardboiled veteran that lives for combat and the metroid fanbase is just a shitstorm now
I disagree wholeheartedly. I think the assumption that Samus had no character comes from the assumption that character can't be communicated through gameplay. She may not have had long redundant tooth grindingly boring monologues about her feelings, but we knew she was a fan of going off and getting involved in world ending calamities and fighting monsters that casually wipe out even the most hard boiled of trained federation soldiers. We know that she's cool under pressure, experienced, respectful of the dead but is able to move on easily enough. We know that she's willing to work pro bono for a good cause, that she's relatively isolated from society but isn't unwilling to work with the government if the need arises. That's not "no character". That may not be a super dramatic character, but characters don't need to be super dramatic to be interesting.
I do not even want to look forward to the possibility of a new Metroid game anymore in fear of Nintendo fucking it up once again. The last good Metroid game was Prime 3, and even that was meh compared to the first Prime game (which is my favorite game ever). I'd like a 2D sequel to Metroid Fusion that forgets that Other M ever existed. Her interactions in Fusion was strange but at least not horribly offensive in every way like Other M.
are strong women not allowed to have romantic interests? How does having emotions and expressing them make you a lesser person? Elaborate
You know what, I'll drop the sexist line. I can see how somebody would disagree with that, alright. I'll be more specific. Other M isn't sexist, it's just absolutely awful. It's awful because the main character(who just so happens to be female), the character who should be the driving force of the plot(because that's how a story works) is at every single major juncture made impotent by contrivance. And a story in which the protagonist is never allowed to exert their own will is a story where the events that occur do not matter. If a big burly stronk man is going to push Samus out of the way or shoot her in the back with a magic disabling gun every time there's a big bad to be defeated or a decision to make, then it no longer matters when a big bad or a harsh decision comes up for us as an audience. By making Samus, our avatar in the story impotent, we are made impotent. And what's even better is that the decisions that the big muscular manly men make for us are almost always completely retarded. And because they are stupid, Samus is made to look stupid for following them, harming everyone and everything involved in the story. The dissonance between the run and gun action Samus that exists in the game and the waify, frail, insecure, wobbly, easily dispatched, easily dominated, easily fooled, easily taken advantage of Samus of the story creates a rift between action and plot so wide that the game splits in two and becomes broken. Now the plot is completely separate from the game, and instead of complimenting each other as plot and gameplay should, they actively hinder each other. Action is muted by the knowledge that Samus will always revert back to a waify buffoon. Plot falls flat because it clashes so harshly with the gameplay. When all's said and done, Other M is at best not about Samus. Her only real accomplishment in the course of the story is that she saves a thing we never see from a threat that is never adequately explained. When the opportunity comes up for her to kill the metroids, she's punched in the throat by Adam so that he can go and do it instead. When the opportunity comes to kill Ridley, she's so stupefied and frightened that a man has to come in and save her, getting nearly killed in the process. When the Federation comes in at the end, the woman who has escaped from multiple self destructing space ships and planets needs a big muscular man to come in and bail her out of space prison. When the opportunity comes to kill the double agent that's eliminating innocent people, she fails to apprehend them. So, yeah, take off the sexist label if you want. It's just a terrible story about a woman being hobbled by her emotions and her desire to make babies and all the men who have to step in to save her and tell her where to go because she's too frightened and confused to do it herself. I'll just leave it up to you to decide why they chose to write it that way(hint: it's because yoshio sakamoto is fucking sexist as fuck).
I thought this was a new game at first. I have never been so relieved.
"IN THE SUIT, ON THE SHIP" stop repeating what's happening on the screen ffs, write some actual lyrics
hey guys remember when brentalfloss said that The Protomen's lyrics were too complex and that you need to read their liner notes to understand the story? yeah, he doesn't exactly seem to know anything about lyrics
Other M had the worse character dynamic. In Fusion the dialogue between the Adam computer and Samus was always disconnected. The fact that he is a computer compliments that. She doesn't even show love towards him, it's all respect. I'm pretty sure there is even a line where she explicitly states that. Other M Samus straight up sucks.
Where were you when you first found out metroid was a girl?
the point is that samus has gone so long without a game that directly establishes her character that now everyone has a different idea of who she actually is even if you're like me and feel like you grasped a pretty satisfying characterization from the prime games some other dude's gonna listen to your thoughts and go "no i think that's completely off" because nothing is one-hundred percent concrete IMO and I kind of hate to admit this, the only way everyone is going to be happy is if they stick to implied characterization like in the past for future games
I couldn't even stand a few seconds, Brentalfloss made samus into a disney princess.
Implying being a Disney princess is a bad thing. Elsa, Jasmine, Mulan and Megara are all badasses and are far better than what this dumb video made Samus into.
brentalfloss confirmed autist
hey guys remember when brentalfloss said that The Protomen's lyrics were too complex and that you need to read their liner notes to understand the story? yeah, he doesn't exactly seem to know anything about lyrics
did he really say that
Implying being a Disney princess is a bad thing. When most people are seriously taking issue with disney princesses they have either forgotten about the awesome shit that Belle, Jasmine, and the other renaissance princesses did or they are taking issue with the Disney princess toy line. The toy line is actually a bit of a problem because it tends to disregard all the awesomeness that is the Disney heroines and focus on the golden age "play pretty and wait for a man" bullshit. I could go on but depending on what you're referring to and how you mean it "Disney Princess" is either an awesome or a fucking terrible label.
A Mulan action figure set would be badass
A Mulan action figure set would be badass
Comes with a set of boys and females clothes, for all your crossdressing needs!
"IN THE SUIT, ON THE SHIP" stop repeating what's happening on the screen ffs, write some actual lyrics
I'm pretty sure Brentalfloss is too dumb to write anything more intelligent than about whats appearing right in front of him at that moment.
remember when samus just went around fighting cybernetic dinosaurs and interdimensional shadow gods in her two ton suit of metal death i liked those days, let's go back to those days
I'm still in those days
