Correction. Best intro music of any game aswell.
Does it matter that Battlefield 3 is not entirely like Battlefield 2? Many of you guys seem to be completely against the Call of Duty series being the same as the last. If you want to play Battlefield 2 then go play it.
But the nice squad/commander features, in retrospect is what added to the experience in BF2 and 2142. Despite my slight resentment for 2142, I think I kinda like it more than BC2. In my mind BF2 or 2142 for that matter was one big battlefield, characterised by small skirmishes all over the map (like Gulf of Oman or even Karkand for that matter). I haven't had the chance to play Caspian Border yet, I'm getting the feeling it's going to be a bit like that BC2 map with a shipwreck and a shoreline (forgot the name). Yes it's a big map, but it plays more like a bunch of people running head first at each other rather than the small gunfights dotted around the whole map.
Command features in tact? What, "We've spotted a sniper near you" isn't enough? But really, BF3 has so many issues, they said bad company 2 was bad then went ahead and made the same mistakes, spawn camping rpging etc..

The problem with Battlefield 3 is that it lacks some of the core features that pretty much defined the Battlefield franchise. Bad Company was a good spin-off, but a spin-off nevertheless. Had they called it Bad Company 3 then I would have been quite happy with it, whereas calling it Battlefield 3 makes me expect certain features that it lacks. It looks like it'll be a pretty good game though, it's just not what I expected.

Some people think it's amazing others think it's shit. I personally don't find the Battlefield series amazing at all. I enjoy them all very much but I'm not a fan of the series so I don't have very high expectations in the first place. I don't know about you guys but I'm content with the way Battlefield 3 is shaping up.
I can give an opinion when I've played a 64 player match of BF3 on a huge map.
I can give an opinion when I've played a 64 player match of BF3 on a huge map.
Many people got that chance and they were quite satisfied (myself included) with it compared to when they played Metro by itself.
BF3 feels alot like BC3. The only real features they took from BF2 was Jets, and Prone. Which weren't really the iconic things in BF2. They only said they would consider adding commo-rose because of all the complaining.
I did, it just felt like a bigger version of cod with loose feeling vehicles. Even though it's a big map, it still feels like the skirmishes were small and random. With older battlefield games capturing a flag was the objective. With BF3 it seems like people find it annoying and don't give a shit.
good for you since I really hate when people judge the game without playing those two maps
On a side note, is the Back to Karkand map pack going to be released as seperate DLC? or must I pre-order to get it? I really hope the BF2 maps bring back some of that BF2 magic (skirmishes around the construction site/crane on Gulf of Oman never got old)
2142 is the only game of the franchise I've skipped. Though I've heard it's very funny to play.

If BF3 is BC2 with a larger scale and not focused entirely around infantry, how is it not a proper Battlefield?

Core features such as Commanders, useful squads, teamwork, the battles not just being in one place on the map. It was more than just a large battle.
No it was not. Core features such as Commanders, useful squads, teamwork. The only teamwork there was in older Battlefield games was if you were playing with friends and using good communication, which can still be achieved perfectly fine without any of those things.

Even if some people didn't that is irrelevent, the option was still there. BC2 was a completely dumbed down BF2 and BF3 doesn't add anything it took out back in, other than the jets and prone.
How active is 2142? I feel like buying it over Battlefield 3.
2142 is the only game of the franchise I've skipped.
How active is 2142? I feel like buying it over Battlefield 3.
It's still got full servers, but it desperately needs a steam release if it wants to get a stable following.
I'm buying Battlefield 3 because I like the gameplay, but I agree it feels too much like Bad Company. And yes jackasses I played Caspian Border. It still felt like Bad Company. 2142 was the apex for the series and I doubt it will ever reach that point again.
How did that feel like BC when BC2 or BC1 doesn't have any maps that are even half as big as Caspian Border?
How did that feel like BC when BC2 or BC1 doesn't have any maps that are even half as big as Caspian Border?
Because mapsize is the only thing that matters, right?
Because mapsize is the only thing that matters, right?
What else didn't feel like BF2 then?
What else didn't feel like BF2 then?
The overall feel, like Tudd said. You drove around a bit, got in small 1v1 or 1v2 skirmishes, capped the point or respawned and did it all over again. There wasn't that awesome moment when you looked around and noticed everyone fighting and defending the same points. Maybe it will get better after release, idk.

To reiterate: Call of Duty got old, while Battlefield could still be entertaining if another title was released with only enough upgrades to keep up with today's hardware. And of course that's my opinion, I'm not trying to imply that it is fact.
one thing i don't like is that all the characters scream stupid shit online and it really annoys me
I agree. I've spent over 10 hours playing the beta now, and it really doesn't feel like battlefield. It's a decent game with a lot of excellent effort put into it and has a lot of cool features, but I feel execution of said stuff retards the quality of the overall game. I don't want my game to be facebook either, this is quite honestly something that really puts me off the game entirely.
