I think it's really unfortunate that many people understand feminism as a radical, militant ideology that has some sort of unjust agenda against men. Especially here (Norway), classifying oneself as a "feminist" is regarded as something a tad extreme. "You're a straight, male feminist? That's crazy! Women are just potential sexual objects to you, why do you care if they're being subjected to misogyny?" Note that this, naturally, goes the other way as well. It's the [I]men[/I] that are being oppressed, NOT the women! Feminist scum, they'll get what's coming to them." Bottom line; I think the problem lies within people taking offense from the fact that it's called feminism, and not "masculinism" or whatever. But that's not the point, clearly the term is a result from a time of dire discrimination. People need to get over this, and as Zeke said - being an anti-feminist won't solve anything.

In many people's eyes horrible situations like that are read as fights in the zealous light of gender issues, when in reality it's probably just two shitfaced people punching eachother out (like with any other 'same sex brawl').
