do u guys know who jade raymond is
she made me get a PS3 because Assassins Creed was going to look sick nasty on it.
"She is a girl, so obviously people are attacking her because of it!!"
Look, that's not the case. I don't know about the rest of the community, but I couldn't care less about how she got into Comcept or how much of a feminist she is, but for a "community manager", she handled this in the worst way posible, and that's undeniable.
People aught to stop blanketing these stupid posters from /v/ as "Gamers" effectively dismissing everyone else who happens to enjoy playing games.
also networking is a completely normal way to get a job, especially if she already lives in the area.

She got the job expecting to look at some cool fan art then show it to the guys at Comcept, then wakes up to find a bunch of harrasing posts on her twitter and disables it like most people might.

Yeah you missed the part where she deleted controversial twitter posts before opening her Twitter back up, and then coming up with the excuse that it was to "separate her life from her work" despite the fact that she has access to the Comcept Twitter account AFAIK, not to mention how she kept dodging some of the members questions in the forum when the thread litterally said "ask me anything".
Just a little detail that you missed.

She deleted controversial tweets, so what? I don't agree with some of the things she said on her twitter but removing some posts that is getting everyone's panties in a bunch isn't uncommon.

You keep forgetting that she is the COMMUNITY MANAGER. What she should've done in this situation is clear up any confusions and misunderstanding, and try to come to an agreement with the community, anything but try to HIDE IT.

Like I said before her original job description was to look at fan art and cool things that the community is talking about, not to put out fires that some overreacting kids started. Not surprising that she isn't experienced with handling this kind of thing.

You said it for yourself. The community was talking about her. And since her job is to manage communications, maybe she should've done something to try to prevent these negative communications from continuing instead of throwing a can of fuel at a burning forest, don't you think?

Now we're just going in circles,
I'm going to respond again saying that this is not what they hired her for then you are going to respond again saying that it's the title of the job etc. etc.
I'm just going to say that bad decisions only seem bad in retrospect, what would you have done to stop the ever so mature posters from /v/?

Oh, I apologise. I realize now that only you may know the inner workings of Comcept and that you, your majesty, are right in everything because you, like no other, can ignore job definitions and make up your own, and I apologise for doubting you, my lord.

Stop getting so worked up, I honestly just wanted to know how you would have handled the situation.
From what I'm seeing on the forums right now they handled it pretty well. She made a thread to answer any questions people might have then they just recently made a thread clearing up any confusion people might have had for Dina's involvement with the project (yes that includes what they hired her for). Yeah, good job linking me to a backer-only forum there.
Also good job ignoring my previous posts. Granted, I didn't say what I would've done specifically, but I did say what she SHOULDN'T have done, which should at least give you a hint.

Ah, sorry didn't realize you weren't a backer. Since the whole fiasco with the twitter account they have been doing a pretty good job of putting out the fire.
From that thread:
The job of the community manager is to act as a conduit between the community and the team – basically help keep the team filled in on what all of you are talking about, and help keep all of you filled in on what’s going on with the team internally.

seriously though, sometimes "social justice warrior" as an insult just straight up makes me laugh
it's like saying "you... you... person who considers other groups! how dare you stand up for other people!" it's hilarious, they're saying you should be selfish shitbirds like them
It's not as simple as just standing up for other people, it's because you are being a typical "knight in shining armor" and that's annoying
Still doesn't work.
Then I guess you're not a backer with forum access.
I don't think I have to spell out that Feminist having an influence on the game = bad.
Oh my god, wow.
Actually, i think you will, seeing as you brought it up. Name some games that have been impacted for the worse because of "feminist influence". Go on, it should be easy, shouldn't it?
You keep forgetting that she is the COMMUNITY MANAGER. What she should've done in this situation is clear up any confusions and misunderstanding, and try to come to an agreement with the community, anything but try to HIDE IT.
Come on, do you honestly think that anything she could have said would have placated the toxic hordes of /v/ and the rest of the awful contingents of the gaming community? If anything, it'd just stir them up even more. It's a lot better to ignore them then try to address them, especially when they're mad about someone having a tiny, mostly unimportant job with a game company.
[editline]13th December 2013[/editline]
Honestly this thread is just Anita Sarkeesian 2. The same sort of people claiming feminism will destroy gaming, the same accusations of white-knighting...
It's just so fucking stupid.
I think his point is that "Social Justice Warrior" doesn't sound very insulting.
Ah. I believe it's meant to be like White Knight. Implying that you have nothing better to do but defend leftist gender / sexual ideals on the internet. With the Warrior being heavily sarcastic.
TBH I wouldn't have minded the fanart if it wasn't so, well, bad. The face is incredibly over-detailed and simply doesn't fit the art-style at all. (Remember that one image of mario with the hyper-realistic face?)
I can't really say much about Dina, TBH. Yes, her "RANDOM EPIK FUNNY!!" introduction on the forum was cringe-worthy. Yes, she never played a mega-man game before, but you do realize that MN9 ISN'T a megaman game, right? It's a spirtual successor, but spiritual successors can be wildly different from the game their concepts and so forth originated from. All I'm worried about is if the robots she's supposedly designing are going to be "Ultra realistic".
The only reason this video exists is simply to pander to /v/. Take note of his smug attitude, the times her mentions "Femenist agenda", his generic "SRS SUCKS LOL" jokes devoid of substance. All of which is an instigation of attention. If he had ads enabled, then he's a genius making money from shitty rants.

Okay, I think people are missing the point, again, but I'll admit that last sentence had me in stitches.
How is she doing a bad job? She just typed an "out-of-touch" paragraph, not a monotonous rant about males. Newcomers don't immediately adapt the community that they're in.
I'm unsure why people are angry at her for not being a megaman fan. Many concept artists and music composers in the gaming industry aren't interested in gaming at all.

what's your point
she has connections to one of the devs and speaks fluent japanese and english. perfect relay between the developers and the community. that's why she was hired.
why don't gamers cry and whine when reps of other games are fucking idiots? somehow it's different with her?

plenty of devs have worked on projects that they aren't gigantic fans of. unless there's some secret kind of pact that developers have to sign that says "YOU MUST BE A ~REAL GAMER~ AND ~REAL FAN~ IN ORDER TO WORK ON THIS GAME!!!!"
but it doesn't matter then i guess lol. only matters when it's A COMMUNITY MANAGER WITH LITERALLY NO AFFECT ON THE GAME'S DEVELOPMENT.

her job title as community manager kinda involves managing the community and keeping them happy or at least sedated. i have absolutely nothing to do with MN9 so i dunno, but i get the impression that she's not doing so well at that.
why don't gamers cry and whine when reps of other games are fucking idiots? somehow it's different with her?
people do complain, quite a bit. this one isn't particularly big, but people have put their own money into the project as well as having a lot of emotional investiture in the only chance megaman has left.

its certainly a good thing if they know a bit about the franchise they're working on and a lot of really shitty sequels and reboots have come from devs not even liking the franchise they're working on, but thats besides the point.
her job is to manage the community, something she apparently has no experience at and is doing poorly. saying things like she has no idea about the franchise (normal for any PR but it never hurt them), or making it apparent she has her own vision and will possibly misrepresent the community to fit her own view are obviously going to have some backlash. you can try and rationalise it all you want but this isn't an argument, its crowd control, and mobs of people in any circumstance rarely act rationally.

maybe she's fixated on defending herself because people are making gigantic threads calling her an idiot because she drew genderbent fanart?

show me an example lol
show me an example of a video somebody made claiming that a community manager/ somebody related to games that isn't a developer is going to pollute a game with their ~agenda~
maybe she's fixated on defending herself because people are making gigantic threads calling her an idiot because she drew genderbent fanart?
so rather than trying to fix it she's covering her own ass? do you think any PR firm openly addresses how much they have reviewers in their pocket? does EA try and argue their horrible policies with fans or do they just give vague and distracting responses?
no-one cares about her ego and she should put it aside for the sake of doing her job. dont feed the troll is such a basic rule and a few sentences about how she'll be as transparent and lacking in agenda as possible would do wonders, but of course she has no idea about crowd control.
and the only real issue with her genderbent fan art is it looks really bad. isnt it also kinda unnecessary since they said call was playable anyway?

men? naw, they don't have to go through this test. men are always real gamers (unless they play sports games or something i deem "not a real game")
fucking gamers.
She did try to conceal aspects of herself, but it's likely because she feared that people would misinterpret the company as a whole. It looks admittedly sloppy, but I can't blame her for doing that after seeing this controversy.
It's happening currently, people are demanding refunds since they assume that she's going to include "feminazi" narrative/designs. Aspects that don't have impact on the gameplay that they desire for. I thought that it was common that people knew that most creators rarely push their politics in commercial fiction, considering that they want to relate to the widest audience available.
