I'm partially Japanese. My Grandmother is from Hokkaido. It depends on the region and the people in particular. It's different everywhere you go, generally cities are a big liberal melting pot and the further out into the rural areas you go the less they appreciate 'tourists' and so on.
Hannah Minx, the girl in the video has lived in Japan for periods of time and she's pretty popular because she caters to a very big market. Her eyes are the way they are due to makeup and contacts. The Japanese have this thing for big eyes and 'cute' things and Hannah, along with her sizable bust and white skin makes her pretty attractive to men. I remember in one video some guy asked her out in Japan and she stood him up or something stupid.
In general, the Japanese aren't out right racist even when they dislike tourists and whites. It's subtle things, normally. If you get on a bus, no one will sit near or with you and things like that. Most people do not rent apartments to white people because they have a habit of living in Japan for three months, not pay rent and leave to go back to their home countries after leaving them a mess. White people are generally disliked because their experience with them hasn't been that great. The Japanese, even if they dislike very, very seldom show it. They're usually far too polite to make you feel bad by saying "Who do you think you are coming into my house with dirty shoes!?" or whatever or even just pointing out things their culture doesn't do. You're not supposed to use a cellphone on trains or buses. It's EXTREMELY IMPOLITE but if tourists do it Japanese people don't usually tell them to stop because they don't want to embarrass them.
Blacks especially though are disliked. There is still a lot of sexism in Japan as well, women are seen a lot like objects in Japanese media and they'll put girls in bikinis on Game Shows just because they can, in dramas the heros are always men and even if the women mentions something smart the guy will take credit for it because he's male and far more capable. That sort of thing.

the location and age of who you are dealing with, as well as your own appearance and age are the biggest factors when it comes to how you would be treated. SOME OF what is stated above is pretty much universal truth among english speakers and americans in japan. you can read pretty much any blog by anyone living overseas and you'd see that
sexism is not any more an issue there than it is here

Good example of why the Japanese don't like foreigners, they don't respect and adopt local tradition and because of this it's uncomfortable to the point it's essentially an insult.
At 1:16 when Top Gear went to Japan they did it too. Multiple times and you can see everyone else gets pretty annoyed.

In general Top Gear really lived up to the image foreigners have in Japan.

It helps a lot not being American.

*Most* apartments do rent to white people. *Some* don't. Also, try not to look like a tourist, that helps too.

I'm white and those things are pretty rude where I come from too.

You're exaggerating. There are also plenty of dramas with female protagonists with a large host of spineless males. Sexism is a big problem but it's nothing like you put it out to be.
Time to make a horrible joke
I bet she would want to live in nanjing in the 1940s
yeah I went there.

This is true of anglophones wherever they go.
Most of my information either comes from things I've read, or mostly from my Grandmother whom lived in Japan in, well, the 1940's and left when she was 18 during the Occupation of Japan, so I kind of have to try and figure out "Well, this is probably true" and what is outdated. So it may not be all that accurate.
Like I remember she was telling us that Japan never had Christmas, and at the time she lived in Japan that was true. But now it's like a dating holiday or something, a mini consumer event.

So you guys are allowed to talk about Japanese people, but I can't talk about anglophones? Why? Does the little flag which at best indicates my current location change which opinions I'm allowed to share?

for the most part if you're white and look like you live in japan then you're adored, if you look like a tourist then you're shunned
