The Tin foil-pan hack is a really bad idea if it's a teflon coated pan. The metal will scratch the teflon.

Parents have a set of pans that not only came with metal cookware, but was advertised to be "impregnated" with teflon, instead of layered.
You could take a knife to that stuff and you wouldn't be able to damage the nonstick layer. Been using it for over a decade and they're just as usable as when we first got them.
