I agree that it really isn't worthy of the obsession. People go nuts over it, but I've tried it and I found it really wasn't that interesting. Even if it was legal, it's just kind of dumb. It just makes you mellow out and sit around and that isn't really my idea of fun.
However, people do obsess over alcohol as well, but smoking has changed a lot now that it is common knowledge that it is terrible for you.

I don't see too much about smoking but you are absolutely wrong about alcohol. I had seminar the other day and the lecturer made at least 5 comments about going down to the pub and a couple more about having a glass of wine within an hour. If you've never been around people constantly talking about drinking, you've never been around students, middle aged men or literally anybody else.

I've had enough bad experiences with obnoxious kids in highschool trying to ask people to buy cigs or booze for them or even people trying to outright extort you smokes to know that smokers and boozers are still fucking annoying. I don't even smoke and some of these shitheads are still persuaded I somehow carry a pack of smokes and that I'm just hiding it.

I used to drink a lot of alcohol, but cannabis saved me from becoming an alcoholic.
My depression goes away when I smoke bud and it makes me functional in a way no pill does.
And psychosis? Bullshit! I suffer from paranoid schizophrenia, I have smoked for almost a year now and I haven't had a single cannabis related psychotic episode, I actually have more psychotic episodes when I don't smoke than when I do smoke.
Weed saved my friend from being an alcoholic. I was scarted shitless because it was the first I had an alcoholic person in my life and it was horrible. he smokes weed rarely but it worked for him!

If a person cares about how he smells he will cover it. Like people who don't smoke pot for example cover the bad smell of their armpits etc. It depends on the person and the substance plays no role in smelling or not. So if someone wants to be clean and good smelling he/she will take care of it.
