Make it stop
I find that scandinavians are people of few words in general, no one barely speak to anyone else unless it's necessary in a public situation or anything. Maybe i'm wrong about sweden but i know that denmark and norway is pretty alike in that way and people just rather keep quite. There's no sort of small talk like in england for example. Everytime i'm in england i feel distinquished, i guess people talk even more in the united states from what i've heard.

Must be a language thing.
I find talking in English a fuckton more easier than in Finnish or Swedish or whatever.
stop the intervention
this video is adorable
i can totally sympathize with the guy too because when i went to india i stuck out like a sore thumb and everyone wanted to talk to me, and because with some of them they'd have the super thick south indian accent or just not as educated in the north, it could be wicked hard to understand some of them
poor guy lmao
Well yeah, but I don't like being grouped in with other people and labeled as a silent alcoholic finn with a horrid english accent.

Also one thing I don't understand why I don't like it, but I just hate it when people start saying Finland has the most badass army and can kick Russia's ass extremely hard, just like back in the 40's. It was luck.
Let's take the "negative" stereotypical views in and leave the "positive" stereotypical views out.
People in southern England are like that: they never speak to strangers. Northerners are much more warmer
well from what i've seen in this thread i now love finnish people
OP you gotta lighten up, man

dude i know what you mean, i'm from long island, new york, where if you sneeze in the street or something you'll get bombarded with "bless you!" from all directions, and then i moved to kent, here in the UK no one even bothers to so much as look at you let alone talk to you

I've lightened up. I was really upset with my neighbors but I took a spider-free shower just now.
I'm fine.
I like Finland, but I'd still love to live abroad. Australia gives me a hard-on. I like spiders even though I'm scared shitless of them.
finland is the best op is just depressed you need help :(

More like me being on my period.
Just gotta chill.

Finnish craziness can be pretty damn hilarious sometimes actually.

I like you all
I hate living in Finland too. Finland is only awesome for one thing; having a family.
Personally, I love huge massive cities around the world. I know many people hate them, but I fucking love them. Dubai. Tokyo. Hong Kong. Great stuff..
You look anywhere around you and you can see something different. Not just buildings and such, but the people. There are fucktons of people with actual unique personalities. And unlike in Finland, YOU CAN ACTUALLY TALK TO THEM.
In Finland it's like, everyone is wearing the same fucking basic store shit and thinking the same way about a lot of things. Finland is just safe, people do things, not out of passion but because they don't have anything else to do. All the entertainment feels forced. Shit is boring as fuck. No wonder it feels like all finns hang on computers or drink. There is shit to do in here, but compared to the world, it feels like nothing.

This was my main source of frustration a few hours ago.
Definitely moving to Australia, Canada or USA when I get the chance, Finland doesn't suck but damn I just want change.
The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, and you never really value anything you have until you don't have it anymore.
I mean we have most things pretty good here in Finland, not best but still everything is more than fine.

I just seek exoticity. I know people are gonna say "Sure it looks good on the other side"
Well, I wanna check out that other side. If I'm wrong then so be it.
The problem is with me then.
I don't like darkness and coldness. I don't like suicide and alcohol, taxing is ridiculous in Finland.
And a holy shitton of other little details that just make me wanna live elsewhere.
Try America. Poverty, shit "culture", and although tax rates are smaller, you have to pay out the ass to insurance companies and to colleges among other things. The government is shitty and corrupt; the bureaucracy is an ever-expanding mess. Even though the recession is "over" most families are still in the dark economically and way worse off than before 2008. Nobody has money, everything is more expensive, and yet right-wing middle-class I-spent-4-years-in-college-that-means-I-know-everything assholes still want to drag it down further.
And people most definitely do not say anything on the street. People are afraid to. I'm sure that is how it is in Finland, and it seems to be how it is in pretty much the Western world, if not the world. Does that mean people are all shitty here or in Finland? No, of course not. If you do manage to converse with strangers most of the time they are nice people. It is rare I have met someone on the street who acts like an asshole.
Hell, I live in Northwest Indiana. Even the weather is shitty, cold, and dark for around half of the year. Today was 61 degrees Fahrenheit and that felt fucking great (but I am sure you know the story).
I hate to say it but from talking to Finnish people and hearing about the country online, Finland sounds like a goddamn dream compared to almost anywhere else really.
The point of this insanely long-winded rant is that this is a rare case in which I agree with Melnek. I think the problem is probably just you, because even though I just wrote a fucking essay on the problems of the USA I still love it here and I am thankful everyday I was born here in the US and with my family.

"Hey, are you playing football later?"
"Yeah, I'm hanging out with the guys to play football, and then we're going out to eat after."
How is that a bad thing?
I probably would have acted pretty similarly. Having a beeg time amerikan tee vee host talkin 2 me make me scare
Here in Canada where i live it's uncommon to not greet someone or smile or something when you walk by them in the street, or strike up a conversation and some small talk while you're in an elevator or waiting in line at a store. I'm not sure how i'd react if i tried to have some small talk while waiting in a line at a busy store in Finland and i just got straight dead end responses. Would probably make me feel shitty
I want to go to Finland or a place like it. It seems quiet. I like that.

I think he means things unrelated to the question presented.
I want to go to Finland or a place like it. It seems quiet. I like that.
Northern finland is really beautiful and nice, a bit cold tho. South is just these cities that want to be big and they're full of fast food places.
