Basically, the hitboxes trail around the character models when they're moving, and this means that oftentimes your shots will line up with the enemy model, but not their hitboxes. This becomes a problem when playing classes like the sniper. Say you line up your shot perfectly on a moving targets head and fire. There's a good chance you're going to miss entirely, despite being dead on with your aim. It becomes stupid when you realize the optimal way to score a headshot on a moving character is to aim ahead of them, and hope the shot lines up with the hitbox. This also becomes finicky because each class has their own movement speeds, so this distance you need to aim ahead varies. It's not game breaking, but it sucks that because of the engine being old, a split second shot skill shot can be nullified.
The best part is when your shot hits the character model and it leaves a bloody mark square in the forehead, but the shot still 'missed'.

I still have fun in TF2 tbh. Haven't bought or traded for a cosmetic in over 2 years except taunts because those are just stupid fun.
But they've added new maps and heroes and game modes outside of events.
That's not really the point though. Unpopular opinions incoming. The only mention we've had of any of the skins returning is the Summer Olympics ones, which will more than likely be added to new event crates to make it even harder to get what you want. We've had two event Horde mode gamemodes now iirc (the Blackwatch-focused event had it right?) and that hasn't been added to the main game nor have more actual gamemodes to my knowledge. It's already getting to the point where there are fully half as many event-locked skins for some characters as there are regular skins and unless you're hilariously dedicated and lucky, the only way you'll get all of even just the skins is by shelling out for crates, let alone emotes, poses, voice lines etc. Even their year celebration event was just a big cash grab for crates. As someone that's been playing pretty much since day one, it was a bit of a slap to the face. Overwatch is literally already 3/4ths into the TF2 cosmetics cycle and it's been just over a year. I'm not really hopeful for its future. [editline]26th June 2017[/editline]
I still have fun in TF2 tbh.
I think the biggest thing TF2 has over Overwatch (no pun intended) are the characters. I don't think this is a very groundbreaking opinion but the mercs in TF2 have much more personality than the characters of Overwatch. The heroes all seem like Blizzard gave them one character trait and called it a day. I guess it's not really fair to say that the game with the cast of 20+ characters aren't as fleshed out as the one with 9 but still.
But how often does the writing come into the gameplay itself [editline]26th June 2017[/editline]
I personally really miss the old days of TF2, back around 2009. That's when the game really shined, maybe it's just my nostalgia glasses but I just preferred how the game balance was back then. Introducing more weapons just makes TF2 much more difficult to balance properly, and with them giving each class a whole bunch of different stats it gets pretty complex. At least back before the class updates, you only had to focus on one class and go play. It was much easier to jump right into, without having to reconsider which weapon to equip depending on the match's situation.
Overwatch has issues but I don't see them introducing new weapons for heroes any time soon. Thank god.
i haven't touched TF2 in sooooooooooooooo long but man this makes me sad as hell
there's also wasted potential with stuff like PvE or CTF being just a limited arcade option.
You know what ticks me off about CTF in Overwatch? Blizzard in all their omnipotence managed to fuck up the most basic gamemode you could have and that is capture the flag, you need to stand on the flag to capture it, which I don't mind at all, makes it so you dont run up with Genji, Tracer, Sombra, whoever that moves fast and then just run back to your flag, what really pisses me off is how they made it so that whenever you take damage, the amount of progress you had on getting the flag is reset back to 0, just get a Torbjorn to pop a sentry down, and another hero that doesn't die quickly and you've guaranteed a stalemate, and that makes CTF in Overwatch for me severely unfun.
same thing happened to csgo and dota (csgo to a lesser extent, for the moment) people like buying dumb over the top shit more than small things that don't clash with the style, unfortunately.

The memories I made from surfing or playing 24/7 2fort were amazing. I met and befriended tons of people, joined communities yadda yadda yadda But yeah nowadays that’s gone and lost and it’s sad but it was bound to happen eventually
Only thing that 'Killed' the game for me was the engine limitations. Their hitbox tech is super outdated and really gets to you after a while.
Source projectiles. That's all. (E.g. the huntsman feels like such ass.) Also some small things in other games go a long way to making things just feel better. For example, instead of the healing beam cutting instantly when you go out of range in overwatch it remains for a very short period, which makes using it much smoother.
TF2 and the majority of Valve products lack what Dota 2 has. A caring project leader. Icefrog has been working as the project leader throughout all the years for Dota 2 and it shows because Dota 2's support is pretty much equivalent to TF2's back then in 2007 - 2010. Aside from all the microtransaction stuff that is done rather well (minus some exceptions in terms of artstyle looks for characters) the game receives balance updates, has gotten good support with the Source 2 update and big new changes in form of community modes. CSGO is missing a project leader who can say "no" when somebody wants to add something and since the communication within Valve is rather fucked, sometimes they just add stuff without taking in other's opinions. Like the controversial revolver. And I believe Robin Walker isn't project leader of TF2 anymore which is why TF2 is going so downhill.
I still think going Free to Play and somewhat prior beginning to harbor microtransactions for in-game items was the absolute worst transition for TF2 in Valve's attempt to reach to a wider audience.

He was among the 3 who kickstarted Dota2 within Valve. Spent a couple of years with that, then was involved with the Steam Controller and recently with Steam itself.
I still think if we rolled back all the content to Meet the Medic, removed matchmaking, and provided incentives for servers with custom maps or mods, we could provide a balance for peak TF2 gameplay and still keep the better updates. Maybe keep the regular cosmetics/hats (I'm keeping my "Patton" loadout for the Soldier)
i don't get the f2p complaints tbh. a slightly worse, even EXTREMELY worse playerbase alone wouldn't have ruined the game the way valve's development of it did
It has less to do with the fanbase and more about quality control and keeping (somewhat) anti-consumer practices to a minimum. Everything starting with the Mann-Conomy Update was a total mess and it laid the foundation for most of TF2's current problems.
i don't get the f2p complaints tbh. a slightly worse, even EXTREMELY worse playerbase alone wouldn't have ruined the game the way valve's development of it did
Making the game F2P looked like a good will gesture at the time but in hindsight it really opened the floodgates for a ridiculously large market of people willing to buy keys and such, furthering the practices that changed the game in a way that old players can't find enjoyment out of it anymore.
