If Superman were real, it would be legitimately terrifying. Sure, he's good now. But, what about when he's not?
I haven't read many comics, but the DCAU dealt with this fantastically in Justice League Unlimited. The main arc for two whole seasons revolves around the government's completely justified mistrust of the Justice League. There's so many great scenes that came from that. The DCAU is what I wish the DC movies would be like.
I never said anyone was dumb, or wrong for liking dumb action movies. I don't see how anyone can enjoy plot holes or bad writing without some irony being involved. If someone likes that stuff, okay, I'm not going to stop them, but I have no reason to respect that or not comment on it. I enjoy terrible things in films, I enjoyed MoS and a lot of it's stupid but fun moments, hell, I enjoyed Suckerpunch for the most part because I just turned my brain off for it and was wowed by cinematic picture perfect brilliance, that doesn't mean I enjoyed good things. You yourself in your defense of "dumb action" called it dumb action, doesn't it being defined by it's dumbness even by it's defenders say something about why it's considered low hanging fruit in the field of media?
There is no such thing as smart action, so yes I completely acknowledge it as dumb action thus why I called it that. What is your point? You just seem upset Man of Steel wasn't EVERYTHING you hoped it to be. That's all you're sounding like to me. I mean if you're a comic book fan then I don't see how you can have a problem with a Batman vs Superman movie... Unless you don't like comics and you're looking at these movies as "smart" movies with actual plot. In that case you should... stop...

Have you read enough comics to justify all their plots as stupid? Many have a lot of hammy elements but hold on to a main principle or point fairly well and deal fairly well. I expected what I got out of MoS, a dumb action film, I didn't expect his interpretation of Superman. Also, there is "smart" action. Action just determines that a film is going to be packed with events that are either violent or dangerous. Nothing about that is intrinsically "dumb" or "smart". Context rules that roost pretty heavy handed. Actions "smart" or "dumb" elements are brought in by the nature of the story. If anyone here is saying "You can't feel like that", it's you. [editline]17th April 2015[/editline] My deal is I'm having a discussion about the topic and media which are a hobby and something i'm employed in.

I just really dislike how darn grim these movies are - everything about this trailer was so dour! "There's an alien on Earth - that could be BAD!" "These people look up to Superman - that could be BAD!" Superman is frowning, Lex is ranting, Alfred is cold, and Batman is... well, Batman. Why can't they be more like the TV shows? The Flash is completely unashamed of its comic-book roots, and as a result its Silver-Age action is tons of fun. Heck, they had a wonderful crossover with Arrow that was a great example of how to do a Batman/Superman (serious dude with gadgets and acrobatics/upbeat dude with superpowers) dynamic.
So in this movie, what has batman been doing while Superman was trying to save metropolis? I know this movie will not be related to Nolanverse Batman dark Knight series though it would have been so cool if it was canon
Batman has a gun movie ruined
is an electric gun Incidentally, darn you Nolan for making a Batman movie with the initials TDKR, it makes googling "The Dark Knight Returns" so much more difficult
that sounds dumb as hell
well that's superhero comics for you if people aren't down with weird plots like this they shouldn't try and make superhero movies
Not all plots are equally dumb [sp]though I am biased against "What if Superman was evil?" especially with "...and only Batman could stop him?!"[/sp]
that sounds dumb as hell
It's the best selling superman series in years.
I don't like Injustice (partially because I'm a big ol' Superman fanboy) because it feels really heavy and pessimistic. Like, "there's no way someone could be genuinely a good guy" and as soon as that facade slips he becomes literally Hitler (not to be confused with Nazi Superman). I'm fine with darker characters like Batman but you need optimism on the other end to balance it out. And people complain about Superman being overpowered? A major plot point of Injustice is that everyone has super-strength and super durability. how do you dislike "overmilitarization and pointless combat" and want an Injustice adaptation? plus the ending of the plot is "and then GOOD Superman showed up and beat up the EVIL Superman" which is both a cop-out on "what if Superman was evil" and a deus ex machina [editline]22nd April 2015[/editline] It would be interesting if DC did an elseworlds/multiverse series of movies. Like, instead of making a bunch of Batman movies in the same continuity they could make Red Rain, I Joker, Gotham by Gaslight, In Darkest Night...
