A big part of the problem is that modern cellphones still use the same damn voice codec they did in '94, so voice quality is fucking garbage, despite the fact cellphones have the bandwidth for better.
Don't believe me? Place a call on a cell phone conventionally, and then make another call on Skype and you can hear the difference.
Some networks have "HD voice" service.

T-Mobile has one too I think.

Too few of them. But at least improvement is in the pipeline.

For a good reason too. That bitch has a 9K sensor that does .RAW HDR all at once.
it's really weird to see the 90's without it's characteristic grain
it's like seeing a color photograph from the 1920s

Well I'll tell you what, the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics are the very reason I'm born to begin with.
fuck this shit, HDTV got mainstream few years ago, and sadly it wasn't mainstream back in the 90s
That american guy did two mortal jumps like it's nothing.
It's pretty much the ubiquity of brightly coloured sweaters that gives away the year :v:

I can't decide if this means you were conceived during them or if your parents met there.

it's weird
this feels exactly like that footage from london in the early 1900's; very archival and stoic, with people jumping into the picture now and again with smiles or curious squinting
imagine looking back on this in a few decades
seriously. we should talk about them sweaters. mmmm yummy

Fucking hipsters.
Seeing old footage like this makes me a little sad.
I feel like something was lost in the transition to the new age.

Were there only two prototypes or something? Because they're taking preorders on the red site
Speaking of which, anyone got 30k to spare?

It's weird seeing Times Square without any sort of advertisement on a screen.
And people in a few decades will go wow at the Olympics Opening Ceremony in 8k. Interesting to see that the footage was filmed in 16:9 too which we only started to see in Britain in 1998.
Of course my computer can't play HD video without lagging.

The irony that your modern computer can't handle a video stream from 1994.

Might have been. I don't know much about it besides it being a 6k camera, and incredibly expensive.

It's not even that much for a RED "brain" as good as that.

fun facts: an arriflex 435 (35mm film camera) will cost you about the same, maybe a smidgen less. then you have to buy film stock and process it.
with the red you have to buy hard drives and it's still expensive, but a lot cheaper and faster as you eliminate the need to process film, send off for dailies and get 4K/2K scans done.
film productions rarely buy cameras outright, they just rent them for a thousand or so dollars a week, along with lenses, grip etc
I'm glad to see colors were just as vibrant in the 90's too. It's easy to forget that stuff has always looked the same when the cameras makes everything seem faded and muddy.
I can never find these old HDTV recordings, I'm sure there's more out there. For gods sake my father was in Japan in the 80's and wanted to buy one on the spot but they couldn't be used in North America at all!
