Letting him go and presumably having him under at least some surveillance was probably a worse punishment than actually giving him psychiatric treatment. It's pretty clear he was acting more like a robot than an empathic moral-evaluating human... and he had to live with it after snapping out of the worst of it.
The fucked up part is he isn't under any watch at all. He's a free citizen. He served a tiny amount of time in a mental institution and that's it. And pretty much everything he says just screams "repeat offender imminent". If he wasn't a weak old fuck I could see him trying something again. Although even if he's old all he needs is a weapon.
Man works hard: get's a shit life of poverty
Man eats people: Instead of getting psychiatric help or even death, he's forced to relive it over again by being paid to re-enact scenes for a fetish video, and comic strips. Also that trip was something HE paid for, gj watching the video
I understand that he had some really weird and awful moments and he is depressed now, but he needed help from a professional. He did indeed get rewarded several times, especially early on.
My point is that both ways were wrong. When they considered throwing him in prison it was wrong and when they paid for him to take trips around the world it was wrong (and when they asked him to shoot pornography, it was really, REALLY wrong, but I don't have to tell you that). He needed psychiatric help, not reward OR punishment.
And Honestly, I cannot even remember what point I was trying to make with the "Man gets poverty" part. It was 3 in the morning and I was probably half asleep, considering I don't even remember posting that.

I still don't remember any parts of the video where he was paid to be sent around the world. That cruise with the two women? HE paid for that with his father's credit card.
Anyways, it's funny how you actually start to feel sympathy for him after watching 3/4 in. That part where he said that he'd probably kill himself if he was evicted was pretty saddening.
I don't understand why once he got back to Japan, they just let him go.
Japan doesn't have a law against it.
