Is there a game like these, building up robots and having them fight? Flash or Downloadable.
Is there a game like these, building up robots and having them fight? Flash or Downloadable.
Your best bet would be Robot Arena 2. You can get that for free, legitly. I'm sure of it.
Apparently a third one is being made...?
Just watched the whole video. The amount of power some of these things are pushing makes old battlebots look like toys. And Icewave... I'm pretty sure combustion engines weren't allowed before. I'm stupid hyped for this.
Gas existed, but it wasn't common. For short fights the weight of the gas engines just wasn't economical, particularly in small bots. This is especially true because you had to build the bot around that drive train, vs electric where you just put the batteries wherever you can fit them, and the smaller motor wherever it needs to go.
They should bring Robot Wars back here in the UK, With Craig Charles hosting again.......i wish!
I want Richard Hammond to host it
Is there a game like these, building up robots and having them fight? Flash or Downloadable.
Not so downloadably, you could also get a copy of the robot wars games, which ofcourse, were based off battle bots. I would recommend arenas of destruction, one of my favioute games of all time.
Now I want to know if anyone made a bipedal robot for one of these things.
There are a lot of people using Flamethrowers, was this ever banned in Battlebots or did they always allow Flamethrowers?
I can see it all coming back if this is successful enough. Craig was made for this sort of stuff.
Pretty sure they weren't allowed in Battlebots. I seem to recall a few in Robot Wars though.
edit: apparently only the house robots were allowed to use them.
Robot Arena 3 when?
wait oh shit
http://www.robotarena.com/
oh SHIT
Those games were amazing. Really easy to mod too.
[editline]14th June 2015[/editline]
Probably would be banned cause it would fuck with literally all the computer equipment and not be very entertaining to watch at all.
In the original series they were apparently "permitted but discouraged"
The use of magnets and or electromagnets are permitted but discouraged for several reasons:
Spinning magnets can cause radio interference.
Electromagnets can cause radio interference.
Many BattleBots use non-ferrous materials.
The BattleBox arena floor contains a combination of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
If you employ magnets/electromagnets in your BattleBot design you must inform the Technical/Safety Inspectors of their presence and demonstrate that they will not cause radio interference. You may be disqualified at anytime if your BattleBots is found to cause radio interference.

I want Richard Hammond to host it
Funnily enough Clarkson was the original host before they got Charles to do it

There is a video on their site showing some background info for this reboot. http://battlebots.com/abc7/
One thing that stood out to me from that video
We've added a rule, and it's the biggest rule of all. You have to have an active weapon system.
So what I want to know; Can a robot only have active weapon systems? Or is a combination of active and passive allowed? And where do spinning bots/weapons fit into this?
Two examples:
Nightmare; with its trademark bigass spinning wheel

Ziggo; famous for its lethal spinning body.

Needless to say that I'm pretty pumped for this reboot

I'm pretty sure both those are active weapons. Unless the weapon can only spin by the same method as it propels itself (ex: golddigger)

Robot Wars actually had the same rule in later seasons because they decided robots that just drive around and run into each other are boring.
There was a lot of controversy over it because one of the robots, Storm 2, added a flipper it never actually used to get around that rule. The producers hated it because it was both boring and extremely successful and there were a number of cases where they got accused of trying to rig the match. (Once it knocked a robot into the pit, but the smoke didn't go off signalling the end of the fight, so they simply raised it back up and edited out the footage of it being pushed into the pit. Storm still went on to win.)
are flippers banned? they always win

Apparently the filming went terribly and ABC is trying to turn it into a reality show, but the fights themselves were good.

coming from a production background i can tell you what's happening here
"they're doing interviews the same day as the fights" -- ok well even if you only take an hour for the interviews the next day, you're paying your entire crew that next day, as they're probably LA based guys, so you're paying an extra day plus the travel day
apparently battlebots wasn't even contacted until november of last year, so i'm amazed they were able to get episodes done in time for next week
