The big servers are usually in the US and Europe, but a lot of people play with high ping anyway. It's very doable.
Not in the southern hemisphere, it's like sending a message to mars and back in game.
PR is exactly what ArmA3 should have been really it's the most playable, fun 'semi-realistic' game I think shame everyone plays fucking muttrah city shit
You didn't hear it from me but since Gamespy is shutting down you might not need a legit key to play the mod:
Only server that has people and decent ping right now is full :(
I remember when the Project Normandy mod came out (mod for a mod?) and it was 128 vs 128 256 player server beta test. Rushing the Omaha beach 128 vs 128 was surreal, probably one the most exciting and "epic" moments for in gaming. Then once we got the beach our squad was assigned to hold down a house in the middle of the field and countless German squads came after us to take back the house but our 9 man squad held out for a really long time before they picked us off 1 by 1. Definitely worth the time to get Battlefield 2 and the mod absolutely amazing if you really get into the immersive side of the game.
Added 'Anti Human Shield' function, collaborators get punished if they die within 10m of armed insurgents.
insurgency is ruined
insurgency is ruined
i swear there's someone on the dev team that has always wanted to ruin insurgency and somehow gets away with it
Brace yourselves, BRs incoming
iirc brazil has its own server [editline]26th May 2014[/editline] there's also a latin american server
I still wonder why the Russian forces in this mod don't get a VSS ;-;
So more hackers soon?
Apparently the developers are finding a way to check your copy and banning you if it's a cracked one. My guess is they'll just ban hackers, but who knows.
My favourite map from the brief time I used to play PR was one set in Pripyat, where a group of guerrillas were facing off against some russian bastards. Shit was glorious yo. Would anyone want to squad up with me if I downloaded it again?
insurgency is ruined
I prefer insurgency with Chechens any way. More eventful without collaborators. Most collaborators just sit on a roof jerking their dick screaming "ALLAHU AKBAR".
Love playing Project Reality, Muttrah City is very fun. There was this forest map I played on where it was insurgents vs. america and it got scary as fuck when you get pinned in a house the size of a small shed with four other people as insurgents
Neat! I know what I'm installing tonight as much as I love this mod though, sometimes when playing solo, I dislike playing on servers with stacked teams because then I feel it becomes a lopsided game and it basically becomes a dick around for the losing team with majority for them not willing to cooperate because their morale is basically shattered against the team of elite server admin/members, so then they're just running off solo with whatever kits and waiting 'till the round ends
This is about 25% of what killed my interest in PR. The other 75% is poor balancing/pacing/gameplay decisions compared to earlier versions. I was very sceptical and critical of many being made in 1.0, but I looked forward to it all the same. I'd guess the intention was to attract more typical shooter players, but in doing so they alienated a lot of the older members of the community to gain a bunch of people who are practically oblivious to the fact that teamwork exists. There was a fine balance in having this game be playable, many people wanted it to be a liitle bit more action oriented but the devs went too far that way, for me and many others. Honestly I don't like the 100p servers either, they pretty much restrict server admins to putting on the same few 4km maps and cause issues with squad locking and such. I fucking loved PR but now it's just bastardised in my eyes. If it played literally the exact same as .98 but with all the new maps, vehicles, weapons and art assets it wouldn't have got this bad. Also Insurgency is terrible now, a walk in the park for Blufor in most maps (Especially fucking Karbala) due to the disproportionate number and respawn rate of assets.

Whenever I launch it, it gets stuck in an an endless loop of 'Performing first time setup - installing BF2CdKeyCheck.Exe"
I prefer insurgency with Chechens any way. More eventful without collaborators. Then if they try to chase you up the rope, you can try to pull it out from under them to make them fall.
Is this the thread where we can post our cool PR Stories? Cause here they come. Story #1. After about fifteen minutes on some shithole map where it's MEC vs the UN, and i can't find a squad with a squad leader thats giving orders, I finally find the squad for me. So we spawn at some FOB in the middle of some shithole shanty and advance up this hill towards a UN Outpost. All 8 of us surround the outpost and lay down a wall of fire killing every motherfucker inside this outpost. For the next twenty minutes we proceed to hold this outpost, finally being pushed underground as tanks, apcs, and mortars begin to pound the shit out of the top level. Eventually we all died, but we held that outpost for a long fucking time until about twenty infantry swarm in and nade the shit out of the underground tunnels. Story #2. We're on Fallujah West and me and this dude turned our two man squad into an eight man squad by clearing a local village of a cache and picking up unsquaded dudes along the way using VOIP. We finally head into the city where we join up with some other squad. We're getting our shit wrecked by RPG's, grenades, and machine guns. I decide to take a risk, get up on top of the gas station and provide tactical fire for my squad. I'm sitting up there and this truck spots me and starts laying down fire. I hit the gunner in the head, thats one down. Next it's the driver, two down. Slowly i rack up a kill count and let my team advance safely by killing every motherfucker that was shooting at us just two minutes earlier. We all died eventually after a few well placed RPG's and nades by the terrorists though, but i racked up like 8 kills sitting on top of that gas station with just my M4.
I'm interested in giving PR a shot, how easy is it to get into it though? It seems a little complicated, or at least. It would take some getting used to. It's a bit like Red Orchestra, right?

So I'm having this issue where I can move my mouse in-game and therefore can't select a kit or spawn point and as a result cant even play. It's been like this since the 1.2 update. The menu cursor works fine. Anyone know what to do?
Can't wait when they finally show Project Reality 2 (Their standalone game).

Just had a go at the update, nothing has changed. Nobody defending flags, massively stacked teams, ridiculous rate of asset respawn, main base rape, it's all still there and people wonder why the number of players keeps dwindling. Now all the devs can do is keep pushing out new content to attract new players, but with the gameplay they're presented with I'd be surprised if any more than a handful stuck around. To say I re-bought BF2 specifically for this mod, I definitely got my money's worth, but my enjoyment of PR has come to a grinding halt since 1.0. Having to keep people in line as an admin didn't do any favours either, but without the "micromanaging" rules of my clan's server, it'd be in exactly the same state as the others. You might call me cynical for saying all this, but I've played this mod for 6 or 7 years now, and enjoyed the absolute fuck out of it until recently. You can have any number of shiny new guns, uniforms and particle effects to bring people in, but if they're looking for the same experience I had from this game in its earlier incarnations, they won't find it. I fucking hate what PR has become.

Meant for fun. If you dont have the sense of humor to put up some of the annoying (but hilarious IMO) crap that goes on (like getting shot 1000s of times in your base or watching your assets go to waste as new players try to use them and fail) and still have a good time, you honestly shouldn't be playing. When I boot up PR I honestly expect to die dozens of times without actually accomplishing anything because it's good fun and a laugh with my friend. A fun time is always had with funny stories to tell of getting killed in hilarious ways. When we do manage to be effective it's also a great time, albeit in a different way.
When people say "it's a game you're meant to have fun", it just makes me laugh. I get my kicks through using teamwork and coordination to overcome my opponents, which is the entire point of BF2 and Project Reality as an extension of that. Rolling choppers, sitting around at main and having smoke parties and 16 year olds screaming allahu ackbar down their mic don't further that cause, if you want to do that you may as well be playing second life or some shit. I used to find it funny but once you've seen it a thousand times it kinda loses its charm. When you get down to it and want to play the game as intended, IE with some degree of seriousness, such events can only piss you off (Especially if you've been a server admin for 3 years). If you've played as long as you say, then you can't disagree that there was a time when the vast majority took it seriously enough and tried to help new players as best they could so as to stay with the spirit of the game. There's nothing wrong with my attitude when I only want it to be played how it should be, and have any changes made be in service to that. If you can enjoy PR in its current state then more power to you, but I'm done with it.
