you think this writer for the television show will treat it as just satire? before anyone says "but the tweet is satire", you can check out the rest of the account if you'd like. something tells me the tv series will not be quite like the movie.
If its not and all the " guys jumping to ridiculous conclusions " are actually right that'd probably be the funniest thing ever.
that's one writer. justin simien, the movie's director and writer will still be working on the series as the showrunner.

He's white. Does that mean the reason he's telling to fuck white people is cause he's not getting fucked? That's not really how you get laid but maybe it works for him.

If it's anything like the movie, it's poking fun at both white and black people, if not even more at black social justice warriors. So basically Youtube commenters don't know anything and the series will probably be worth a shot.[/ The atmosphere around the subject is so toxic that making satire about it is still insensitive
it looks like absolute shit
Phillip DeFranco just did a video about this: He actually goes out of the way to show clips from the original movie, to show that it is satire.
You cannot "identify" as a race you are not and that's a widely accepted POV, even from people like other kin. Animals don't care about their social status. They don't have "identities" in the way people do. If a person of a blatantly different race is identifying as another, that in and of itself is a form of very bizzare appropriation. [editline]9th February 2017[/editline] And is also a worrying personality disorder probably. [editline]9th February 2017[/editline] But that's not "cultural" appropriation so much as racial appropriation. You have to remember that race and culture aren't the same thing.
I hope you end up teaching little kids, and get to see this entirely artificially imposed construct get torn to shreds, peed on and set on fire daily. "Identification" is entirely an artificial paradigm.

The birth rates of people with white skin color are low, what he wants is that white people fuck white people.
Here's what the creator of the original movie has to say: http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/exclusive-dear-white-people-creator-justin-simien-responds-to-netflix-boycott/ar-AAmMqTy?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartanntp It comes off as prickish to me
You don't understand. The birth rates of people with white skin color are low, what he wants is that white people fuck white people.
I corrected his post. He had a few grammar errors. [t]https://files.catbox.moe/izarh5.png[/t] He wasn't trying to say "I really don't like white people" - he was telling white people they need to have sex more! This is why commas are important, children! :v:
wait this is for real? did the MTV News video ratings not make it clear people are not very receptive to something titled as this? seems pretty risky, considering people may dismiss it just based on the title
I've already decided I'm not going to watch it because I'm not going to support titles as shitty as this.
Like I said, if you're stealing from Egyptians that's still "African culture" so you're still stealing from black people.
You might wanna read up on Egyptian Dynastic culture, particularly on their attitude towards Kush.

"It just brought more attention to the series. Thanks, white supremacists, you really helped me promote my show," he jokingly continued, adding: "I'm a little grateful, I guess, to the insanity."
seems pretty reasonable to me? he's laughing it off and letting the show speak for itself. i really don't get the outrage here.
You might wanna read up on Egyptian Dynastic culture, particularly on their attitude towards Kush.
I'm just saying how someone talking about white people having dreadlocks being "culturally appropriating" black people would react to the remark about Egyptians. I don't agree with that. I'm not one of those people.
How many excuses are you going to make? What does it take? A show is only satire if it's written as one, if you have one of the writers state "Fuck white people" you are making an hard case to defend. This helps nothing about racial relationships and it's easy to notice by the comments of the people here and other communities how people respond to this. Why support this type of shit? Even if it's just a teaser, it's still presented as bad satire, if it is satire at all.
How is that an excuse? Justin Simien has full creative control, it seems. Certainly a lot more control than one random-ass writer who isn't even credited in the show's Imdb page. Simien is the director and writer of the 2014 movie which did, very blatantly, satirize overt social activism. Even if this supposed writer (again: I've yet to see any confirmation that this guy's actually working on the series) was to include racism in every last bit of dialogue, Simien still has the power to throw that trash out or, even better, turn it on its head and use it as a target for satire

It literally took like 10 minutes of research on the original to know that this isn't a racist series, and it wasn't other people research inspired by this outrage.
The comedy in this show is going to age like milk.
which is a good thing probably
Another video People got played. And they were meant to. What a viral marketing campaign
But it's literally fuel for a hate speech. The suggestive title. Even if it's not intended, this show will fuel a hateful public discussion. Many people may be angry because under the umbrella of political correctness, they may think that it wouldn't be acceptable for the whole world if this was adressed to black people. But of course, this umbrella does not protect white people. You can be saying "chill, people", and You will get, I will get it (although it disgusts me how the show is called, it's just suggestive and that's enough for me to make bad assumptions about it) but the majority will not get it. Another thing - watching a satire which involves making fun of race and involves politics just isn't something I would do in my free time. I want some "empty" satire, which is fun because it's stupid. Not something political.
People got played. And they were meant to. What a viral marketing campaign
We won't know if it's successful until we get any figures about how well the final product does
Having seen the movie, which was decent tbh, I can't imagine an episodic adaptation going well [editline]13th February 2017[/editline] Also happy to see all the people in this thread who, like thousands of others, did no research before shitposting about how its probably some racist shit.
It literally took like 10 minutes of research on the original to know that this isn't a racist series, and it wasn't other people research inspired by this outrage.
In my opinion, I believe that not everyone exactly knows about the original movie in the first place, therefore, they are not inclined to do research because they don't even know the backstory behind the series exist. Thus, it wouldn't seem necessary to do research on it. I also argue that even if there was a decent movie behind all this, the trailer on the Netflix series itself was incorrectly presented. Trailers are supposed to be a first impression of a show or movie, and the first impression of this was poorly done, being vague on its part of equally satirizing different races and not just one. If the movie had never existed and this was all we had on "Dear White People", I believe there would be more people calling out on this. I wouldn't put the whole blame the people on their failure on doing the research, I'd put most of it on the studio under Netflix for failing to present itself as it should be.
I want some "empty" satire, which is fun because it's stupid. Not something political.
i have some bad news for you
The creator of the series wrote a really good blog post on the controversy. https://medium.com/@JSim07/why-did-i-name-it-dear-white-people-f1d0146b8e5d#.4irta32lr
If I hurt your feelings by making a joke about white people, does that count as racism because I’m black, or because it offended you? Is a white person mocking black people the same thing? Furthermore, is racism synonymous with prejudice? Or, as Beverly Tatum asserts in her groundbreaking book Why Do The Black Kids Sit Together in the Cafeteria is racism something else altogether? “Prejudice plus [the] power” to enforce that prejudice upon others through a system of disadvantage, Tatum asserts, is what defines racism as separate from bigotry, prejudice or plain insults based on race. It was a point of view Sam White, I thought would certainly have.
No, that's actually institutional racism. Racism itself is prejudice based on race. Doesn't matter if either side has power. Stop making definitions for words which we already have defined. Also, you know what this kind of thinking leads to? It leads to people justifying their hatred. Also to quickly answer those questions:
If I hurt your feelings by making a joke about white people, does that count as racism
No.
because I’m black
No.
or because it offended you?
No.
Is a white person mocking black people the same thing?
No, because "mocking" isn't the same as "making a joke".
Furthermore, is racism synonymous with prejudice?
Yes.
Or, as Beverly Tatum asserts in her groundbreaking book Why Do The Black Kids Sit Together in the Cafeteria is racism something else altogether?
No.
