Everyone seems to hate it suddenly, I remember a few weeks ago everyone was having fun with it, what changed? It was never an amazing game, but I never thought it was bad.
Hipsters
Difference being that the music can be used in order to avoid slendermen. That kind of puts you out of the game when you realize that.
Im not against the guy, I cant stand the people circlejerking it and blowing it out of proportion.
Thanks for pointing me in the direction of Marble Hornets. Definitely hooked.
If you guys like Marble Hornet, make sure you check out everymanhybrid too (I recommend using their wikia to watch the episodes)
Slender is only scary in a few aspects;
Fear of the dark,
Fear of being stalked,
Fear of being unable to run.
All three are really typical traits of a nightmare. If you can get past that, it's not scary at all.
"It's scary except for the parts that aren't scary so it's not scary"
Faceless looks better than slender in pretty much every way tbh.
Please dont compare slender to Amnesia.
Slender is an ugly game where the dev couldnt even manage to align textures and the game was nothing more than obscure notes that actually mean nothing to a story that means nothing, to a horror game that isnt scary at all, just dark and loud, that some youtubers played for more views and it got word of mouth and people started circlejerking it.
While Amnesia had a full on story, motivations for WHY you were doing what you were doing on top of already trying to stay alive(the only thing slender has going for it) amazing atmosphere and level design, all generally very scary the first time through, and it was even a good game and that looked nice and ran nice.
It also had actual gameplay besides walking and the monsters did not look like a fucking piece of shit.
I wasn't even comparing it. I was saying that the game had to be played in a similar fashion.
Slender isn't a bad game by any means. It's not a good game either. It's a cheap jump scare disguised as a game. It's well done, and with some work could actually pass as an interesting game, but honestly even games like SCP-087 do it better.
See, I think its popularity is purely because of youtube. I'm not complaining, its great that slenderman's being appreciated by more people, but I don't think this is the best way for that to happen. The game is really low quality, it's like if a flash game that was really pretty basic and mildly enjoyable suddenly exploded because some people made videos about it. That's never happened though, right?
But fact of the matter is people did get legit scared/fun out of the game. And the biggest reason why the video is fucking stupid is because he just makes up psudo-intellectual "logic" reasoning as to why the game isn't scary. Anyone with a brain and experience working in horror/suspense can attest to this.

You do realize how hypocritical this is, right? I mean you're literally doing the same thing in this post, granted the video is awful, but you're as pretentious as the "douche" in the video
"It's scary except for the parts that aren't scary so it's not scary"
No, if you're keen to having nightmares with those traits, then you'll typically find Slender scary, but if you don't either those nightmare scenarios don't phase you too much or you don't find them scary.
Never understood the Slender game, there is no explanation for anything, no immersion and no true objective.
