Adding numbers to denote sequels is so lame. They could have taken any one of the thousands of words that begin with "R" for the third word following "Red Dead". ...
RDR2 is just fine as far as a name goes, and it's no different from how the CoD series naming scheme works.
Modern Warfare --> MW2 --> MW3
Black Ops --> Black Ops 2 --> Black Ops 3
Red Dead is the series, Redemption is the story-line, and the "2" indicates it's a continuation of that story, in terms of a prequel or a sequel. It only sounds ridiculous now because this will be the third game in the RD series, and taking into account the reason why Redemption was even chosen to begin with, but it's basically future proofing the naming. Now, if they want to make a new game in the same series, but following a different storyline, they have the freedom to call it something else while still maintaining the RD moniker. If they chose a different R word I know for a fact people would have no idea if it was a new story, if it was a continuation of the story, if it was the same story but by a different character for whatever reason that would be done, etc. Especially based of such a short teaser, but since they just called it Redemption 2, it's pretty safe to assume it will involve the original Redemption storyline to some degree.
(if it actually doesn't, then we can all safely call the name a terrible choice)
Red Dead Riled-up Ruffians when. :v:
The trailer was recorded on PS4.

Recorded on PS4 doesn't technically mean realtime
IIRC Forza Horizon 3's trailer was done that way, all in-engine and on console, but 1fps :v:
Red Dead Redemption is one of the very, very few games that have held my attention long enough for me to outright complete the campaign. Most games, I play partly through the campaign, then sandbox a little, then grow bored and leave it. RDR is the one game I beat the shit out of campaign-wise and then spent hours upon hours sandboxing.
One of my all time favourite games and I'm really hype to see there's a new one coming out. I really hope it comes to PC because I don't want to buy a console just to play this. The environments look stunning.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a terrible name. Not because Red Dead Revolver exists but because it sounds fucking stupid. Also if it isn't a story about redemption (like RDR was) then it'll make no fucking sense, and if it's a prequel about John Marston then it can't be a story about redemption, because he spent his life post-Dutch's gang running away from his past.
It's a bad name, they should call it something thematically appropriate.
I'm hoping they actually don't follow the Marston storyline i'm hoping for something/somewhere new, to be honest his story is kinda done and the game Red Dead was never really just about the Marston family, i agree they should have called it something else and hopefully they will change the name something like Red Dead Renegade or Red Dead Retirement and have an old guy as the main protagonist.
Redemption is more of a spiritual successor to Revolver, it just holds the same style of titling. Calling it Read Dead Redemption 2 is a missed opportunity for a good name, yes, but it works if it fits more closely with Redemption 1's gameplay and story.
I never finished the first game because I was shit at it but this might be incentive to try again now that I'm older.
I was really not all that impressed with the graphics, and that's really all there is to judge in this trailer.
Aliasing was pretty abhorrent on grass/trees/characters, I guess we can blame the PS4 for that. Why did there faces look so blurry and muddy though, particularly the shot in front of the store front.
It looks fine, but it certainly isn't blowing me away, considering these were cherry picked shots for a trailer especially.

They build it off the most recent version of the engine instead of using CGI like Ubisoft :v:. This is pretty much the early beta, I recognized a few placeholder NPC models from GTA V.
Wait where are the GTA V NPCs in this trailer?
Only NPC that is slightly out of place is the double-layer wearing vendor at 0:38.
Time to fumble through a console release then buy it again a few years later on PC
I hope it's just because it's in early development, but it looks like the game isn't being rendered at true 1080p, but rather upscaled.
When comparing to say, their GTAV PS4 trailer, it looks a lot more blurry. So can't really blame youtube compression either.
The game is secretly set in the Westworld universe and you as the main character have to come to terms that you're an android.
You guys seriously need to get off the whole "red dead" thing
Like no one is impressed that you know what red dead revolver is and just looking imperically which would the average customer recognize ? Red Dead redemption that game they all played
Plus who knows maybe this game is about redemption too
The graphics look intebde.
I really hope it isn't about John Marsron though because I can't imagine anything new coming from his story, it's very complete the way we got it

There's a third possibility though: Marston and Dutch's gang are in the game, but we follow a new protagonist's story of redemption. In that case it makes sense and it's thematically appropriate.

Would be the best option. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a cameo from Marston
I trust Rockstar, but I don't trust the industry. Some of those forest shots with the lighting look too good to be true. I'm worried about how much of this is bullshots.
It's either PS Pro footage or they're going to downgrade the grass / foliage like fuck and probably draw distance
no way it's going to run at a stable 30 1080p on the normal PS4 like that unless they know some black magic
I don't see why the grass distance couldn't work when you don't have to take several cars, pedestrians and dynamic light sources into account like in Gta V.
There's probably a lot of that stuff that's works from having different sections of the map with different variables of shit.

Yeah, where's my Red Dead Revengeance

Isn't stuff like grass and foliage normally really intensive especially with massive draw distances even if it's not in a setting like GTA?
Yeah, where's my Red Dead Revengeance
"my gun is a tool of justice to protect the weak, however, this is not my gun!"
Says Marston as he fights a corrupt Union General in the ruins of the spider tank from Wild Wild West.

LIKE THE GOOD OL' DAYS AFTER THE BATTLE OF FORT SUMTER
Hopefully you'll still be able to injure limbs. I always went around blasting people's legs out from under them and running around as they helplessly tried to shoot me while they were on the ground.

Yeah, shooting someone in the leg and watching them limp around is just so sadistic and fun. Dragging people around with the rope was pretty damn fun too. :v:
Isn't stuff like grass and foliage normally really intensive especially with massive draw distances even if it's not in a setting like GTA?
It is, but i'm assuming there's ways to get around it. I'm pretty sure there's a variable that changes depending on where you are in The Witcher 3 on console.
I'd imagine the grass distance gets pumped up when you're close to a corn field. But gets reduced as soon as you enter a forest.
Just want to see the euphoria make a grand return. I was really let down with the dumbed down version in Gta V.
There's so much dynamic gunplay in Red Dead, i'm fine with them going into clumsiness mode whenever you shoot them taking several bullets unless you hit them in the noggin.

And edited with ...?
how can people be whining about the title when we literally know nothing about the game yet other than it exists?
Because people have a primitive urge to argue and nitpick but there's no meat on the bones for them to pick at just yet, wait until more game media is released.

Their dev tools?
Probably done the same way they do cutscenes.
