I don't know what everyone is complaining about, this is pretty good.
It's good, but I was imagining for it to be more SILY.

It's been 16 years, of course it's not going to sound exactly like SILY, they've all grown as musicians in the last decade and a half.
And this is only one song out of a 22, maybe it will work better for you in context.

Well, there's still aspects of SILY that are absent in this song:
1. dynamic structure with a wide variety of samples popping in and out
2. lots of repetition (this song has a primary beat that pretty much repeats throughout)
This song is alright, but I wouldn't have believed you a few days ago if you showed this to me and said "This is a song by The Avalanches".
2. lack of repetition (this song has a primary beat that pretty much repeats throughout)
I'm not sure if I get what you mean, you are saying the song lacks repetition, but then say it is repetitious

He was saying that a lot of the songs on Since I Left You lack repetition, but this one is very repetitive. Which I agree with, I liked the song a lot but mostly it felt like a rap song with a really good beat rather than something unique to the Avalanches.

I would argue that SILY has plenty moments of repetition.
Which isn't even a bad thing, I mean Swans built a career off repetition.

Oops, I meant it's got lots of repetition.

Pretty much!

It had plenty moments of repetition, but they were just that: moments. Or, if you're like me, you'd treat them as movements. Each song on SILY had movements. This song too big to be called a movement.
So... mass poisoning, or what?
That was a bizarre, interesting music video.

I think the point of their vocals being lower than the instrumentation was to make it feel 'in-place' with the rest of the plunderphonics. It seemed intentional. Of course Anthony still dislikes it, but I honestly think that it adds to the charm of the track.

You notice how all the other clips and plundered vocals are also mixed below the instrumentation.

theres still plenty of samples popping in and out. This track just sounds like an avalanches track engineered to be a rap song. You have sampled horns, drums, people singing, other weird sounds (especially on DOOM's part) and that weird little mariachi end. Its still avalanches, just 2016 colab avalanches, which I am very much digging right now.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with it. People shouldn't be expected to have the same sound. However, the reason I listen to SILY time and time again is how out of control it is. It's like a dream. I've always wanted to make a movie for SILY because of how whacky it is. It's one of my favorite albums for how boundless it is.
the danny brown/mf doom feature is nice but the song is otherwise trash
i hope its just the 'frontier psychiatrist' off of the next album, and they arent all like this shit
[editline]5th June 2016[/editline]
its just annoying they couldnt have picked a worse sample to make an entire song out of

Right? The sample is genuinely annoying on its own, and the lack of variation doesn't help. If the album is all Caravan Palace esque electro-swing I'm going to freak out..
I like it but I don't know who The Avalanches are and I think I might understand the dislike this is getting if I knew about them, maybe? Also I don't understand what's wrong with Caravan Palace, I love them... Is it just not The Avalanches style?

Personally I just really dislike Caravan Palace and electro swing in general but that's just my opinion, the outrage among existing Avalanches fans is mostly to do with the fact that this song is very uninspired compared to their existing work. Compare Frankie Sinatra to this for the contrast between the old and new:

Ah I see. I like this song as well but I like the Sinatra one too. I can see how people would dislike the difference though. Thanks for explaining! I'm gonna listen to their other music too because of these 2 songs. I love finding new music.
frankie sinatra is anything but electro swing.
I can see why someone would say electricity is electro swing but frankie sinatra? not even close.

It's literally classified as electro swing on Wikipedia, and Electricity has nothing to do with electro swing..
