My brother is a scientist, my sister owns a successful business chain, my dad is a retired politician, my mom is an experienced lawyer, my grandfather owned a massive amount of land and was CEO of many businesses, and my Uncle is one of the most influential people in the State. I could go on.
I feel so fucking spoiled and that I don't deserve any of the things I've gotten. I hope I can at least contribute something to this world like they have.

The only thing I asked for were some books by John Green. I got two; Looking for Alaska, and An Abundance of Katherines. Looking for Alaska is quite possibly one of the best books I've ever read... Fuck asking for a car or an iPad or whatever.
Although I do find it kind of silly how he spent the entire video talking about people moaning about not getting expensive stuff, before ending it with a plea for over $6000 dollars... Should maybe have waited until the next video to end it with that.

It's these people and this attitude that prevents America from modernizing. It always sickens me. We will never move past our problems when it is socially acceptable to complain about not being [i]given[/i] a useless commodity, and then express distaste or hatred towards the person who did not give it on a voluntary gift exchange.
This is why we have greed- because this shit is promoted and expected and strengthened and acceptable. We will never reach European-style social democracy, we will never reach socialism, we will never even reach social harmony. Because of these types of people. Because of this shit. Other nations may have greedy big-wigs, but they are few and far between. When that mentality has trickled down into the middle and lower class, all hope is lost.
My visions of a society of equality and happiness and contentment based not around consumer goods or commodity fetishism is not achievable only because of this. And that's just terrible.
