GMOD 2009 - it feels like a lifetime ago I was playing this every day - General

Why'd we all stop playing GMOD anyway? I don't remember why, it's not like Minecraft where I can recall any bad memories/drama surrounding it driving me away. It's just like, one year I constantly played it, and then from another onward I just seemed to have stopped. Whereas with Minecraft, from the moment the words "Dedotated Wam" were uttered, it became clear that the Minecraft of the present was not the same Minecraft I bought during Alpha. Was it SFM coming out and killing the art of GMOD Animation?

I played it non-stop for many years, and other stuff began to get my attention, like programming.

I still hop onto a DarkRP server now and then. Ones that don't need you to download a ton of shit. Feels like the old days, doing silly things seriously with a few people. Getting kids angry. Sometimes I feel like the only difference is that I've grown up.

I am really not sure if I believe in the whole grown up explanation as opposed to the whole UI engine thing mentioned earlier. Or rather I dislike the idea that adulthood gives people the obligation of no longer having fun I guess. Or even more specifically I dislike the fact that Sandbox is greatly inactive at the moment, regardless of what the age of people playing it is.

Only reason I look back at this game fondly is because I was pretty much a dumb kid without a worry in the world. I could just go to school, then get back home and play this with friends. Nowadays, life is full of responsibility, and stress, and work.

imo money ruined gmod. Servers seem to no longer exist without some form of buying VIP which just encourages Shitlers.

TTT BBB (Gold member TTT server) was the end of the gmod era of my life that was the last time i was like fuck yeah i can't wait to get home to play gmod gmod 9 through TTT BBB was like the golden age

I remember getting GMod 10 in 2008, after playing GMod 9 for a while, and being impressed that there were buttons you could press to activate stuff in Sandbox. Then, I went on the Ventmob RP server and was surprised by how much you could do with Lua. So, I tried learning Lua afterwards.

When something like 75% of those gamemodes became essentially Nox-exclusive Gmod died very quickly for me.

The thing that sucks is that all the servers are filled with 12 year olds with power fantasies and donate to become an admin. Another big issue is all the fucking rules. Like i used to be able to join a server and actually have fun, however now if i even slip up a little its automatically getting pulled to the top of a roof getting yelled at by someone who probably wasn't even alive when i first played this game. then i get banned

I wasnt able to play the game in it's prime, but I remember playing Gmod 9 because I wasnt able to buy the version on steam and I wouuld spend hours just spawning HL2 NPCs over and over.
