J Cole is like the white bread of hiphop
"my taste in music is objectively better and anyone who disagrees im going to rate dumb"
some songs in that tracklist i already get down to
some of those i dont really like cause it aint my style
however she shouldnt be shitting on him cause he listens to stuff like this
oh wow i just checked the ratings for once and it was mostly disagrees. rating etiquette has come far proud of you.
Meanwhile, my father knew I listened to death and black metal when I was still in elementary school, and he didn't care. He just said it "wasn't his thing.":v:
Maybe if the songs talked more about smoking weed and "fuckin hoes", he might have had choice words to say to me? No idea.
goddamn soccer moms
lol it's mumble rap, that's not productive for a healthy mind in a 13 year old
rock and roll made my daughter into a crack addicted prostitute and video games made my son a school shooter
trust me it has nothing to do with my parenting it was the music and video games
well it might have been backlash from strict parenting, sure, but you're telling me that the influences of "drugs, murder, theft, infidelity, hatred" don't have a negative impact on a child? Okaaaay

Also i remember a christian friend of mine freak out because i put this on our shared playlist
Who's saying that? It's just an example of one band, relax mate. I'm slamming the entire genre of mumble-rap, yes, but I'm not wrong in what I'm saying. Violence, hatred, it's pretty mindless stuff.

I mean, stuff like Cannibal Corpse falls in the same place
a lot of metal with completely non-understandable lyrics (probably not black but you know what i mean) with very harsh topics raping women and murdering villages, but that shit's respected as a form of rock/metal?
but mumble rap is just "a fucking joke and has no artistic merit"
nah its an offbranch of musical styles and you have a closed mind
Gee, that's an assumption to make :v: I like lots of hip-hop/rap, but yes you're right, I can't stand mumble-rap. It's a fucking joke and has no artistic merit
[editline]29th November 2016[/editline]
It doesn't make what I said any less true though
[editline]29th November 2016[/editline]
also "stick up the ass"? I mean, look who's talking :v
But music is music, dude. You can't just objectively declare one genre being "mindless" because you're not really into it. People listen to it, so what? What statistic brings up that mumble rap and Cannibal Corpse has increased violence?
no artistic merit
By whom? Music is a spectrum
Almost all the kids I knew in 8th grade listened to this kind of music. That's just what kids do when they're trying to find their musical preference. They listen to what's popular or sounds cool to them. 99% of those kids didn't end up killing anyone.
Personally, I see where you're coming from, Berman. I mainly enjoy classics myself, and right now I'm exploring 80s synthpop. However, a lot of music from the 70s and 80s for example was similarly vulgar when it comes to description of sex acts, only they were heavily metaphorical. And the music you're talking about was politically motivated due to conflicts at the time.
I can agree that listening to music like this around a younger child, perhaps the age of 8 would be a bad influence because of the language or depictions of crime, but when you're 13, generally you know better than to take the music seriously, and from what I remember, a lot of the 8th graders that listened to similar music really liked it because it was catchy. Honestly, I can equate the rap music glorifying crime as a form of rebellion music similar to how rock n' roll was in the 50's. One positive is that it allows you to question authority, maybe the rights and wrongs of what's allowed and what's not.
I guess the point that I'm trying to make is that the new rap music you're describing is just trying to appeal to a broader audience by being catchy or sounding edgy and cool. It doesn't end up harming anyone. In the end, most of the songwriters don't actually intend to lead kids into doing drugs or committing crime. They just made the song for the music, man.
But in the end, I really don't know a lot about the type of music in the video. It doesn't really interest me. But I don't mind other people listening to it. They're just exploring the world of music and the stories being told. And that's really all a lot of music is. Stories. Some are there to teach a lesson or convince you of something, and some are there just for the entertainment. Perspective of the good guy or perspective of the bad guy, it's just a story.
It's 4 AM so if this post just ends up being a bunch of drivel, please excuse me.
It's a fucking joke and has no artistic merit
people always say that about the music they don't like
if covering your tits in paint and jumping onto a canvas can be seen as artistic then I'm pretty sure these performers can be seen as artistic
Nothing wrong with listening to hip hop.
Snip wrong thread
dudes in 8th grade of course his music taste isn't going to be amazing
who died and made you the authority on what artistic merit is
If violent videogames don't effect you negatively, then music can't either right?
The only being who harm themselves with videogames and music are those who are already unstable or are easily influenced. A 14 year old listening to DMX isn't going to turn into a hood rat and you can listen to music just for the sake of it, it doesn't have to be a lyrical and orchestral artistic masterpiece.
If my mom finds out that I'm listening to most disgustingly offensive rap right now, she would be confused and mad as bonkers.
Nope.
nothing pisses me off more than people who are pretentious about music and think stuff like mumble rap is objectively shit and has no "artistic merit"
that just makes you sound like a complete and utter tit to be honest. if you think a genre takes no artistic merit, try making a song yourself and show us what good music sounds like because i see nothing wrong with this kid - or anyone, really - liking mumble rap.
Older hip-hop preached the dangers of drug abuse, how hard it is to grow up poor. Lots of new stuff is "I cap snitches and sell xanies cause I'm the dope dealaaaa swag bitch in my lambo".
Oh no music evolves how disgusting.
This is really starting to remind me about that Filthy Frank video about "Internet Rappers"
My dad shamed me for my music, or my interests in general (oh, you thought I was into anime or crossdressing or some shit? Try just watching simpsons on the TV) back in the day so much it gave me so fucking many insecurities it's not funny
Yeah this is just stupid. Shaming your kid for their taste in media is just wrong, unless they're actually condoning harming someone (snuff films/bestiality/etc).

You do have admit though, it's kind of ironic how hip hop has kinda gone from being a somewhat depressing commentary on the vicious cycle of gang violence and poverty to outright praising gang violence and drug use/dealing.

Joke all you want, but there are teens and 20 y olds like that. Bonus round when you get girls wearing metallica shirts that were bought in a place that has nothing to do with bands.
