If there's going to be an Undertale character, why Sans?
[sp] Isn't it kind of a spoiler to imply that he can actually fight? You only find that out near the end [/sp]
Knowing Toby Fox I bet he'd pick Papyrus as a fighter and just have Sans as a final smash gag.

Yes, it should instead be the superior skeleton, Papyrus.
Fuck Sans and Papyrus. Give me Woshua

*cough* :why: Undyne tho
if we get an undertale character before a cave story character i'll be very salty
as long as we get travis touchdown i dont care who else is in the game
Bomberman and Crash for Smash. Especially Bomberman, considering that Bomberman R is an exclusive.

given how much rise indie-based games have been in the last 4 years, and how relevant is cave story to the indie industry. yeah, they're probably going to give Quote as a mii costume.
With how short dev time they had between now and Smash 4, pretty sure it's going to use the last game's engine as a base. To cut on dev time and rework or add things on top.
That or they'll start with a smaller roster and add on over time to keep the interest strong. The reason I speculated that is because I'm super surprised to see Smash be teased this early. It's barely been a year for the Switch so if the game really is scheduled within this year, they definitely would have worked like madmen on it or they cut stuff so that they can spread it.
Brawl and Wii U entries were system sellers. They appear later in the console's cycle which I thought it's what they'd do to give the Switch a boost when sales would be slowing down. I wasn't expecting Smash to even be teased before 2019 or 2020. So I really wanna see what they are going to do with the game.
If this is more of a 100% "Smash 5" deal with no trace of the last entry in it (or very little reused), then holy fucking balls! E3 will definitely going to be very interesting this year.
I don't know why everyone thinks there has been such a short dev time for this. Smash 4 came out FOUR years ago. That's more than enough time to build a full fledged sequel. Even if they only started 2 years ago, that's still pretty normal for development time these days.
I bought a switch yesterday and had no idea about a direct and new games coming out. Gonna get smash going at work now.

I realized it a little later that it's plenty of time but it's mostly a me being cautious type of deal.
I don't want to raise the bar too high with hype. But you're totally right. Even if they started later, say 3 years due to DLC being worked on, is enough for a full game. And even then, the DLCs didn't take much resources and they could've started on the concepts early on.
I think the reason I worded it like that may be due to Smash 4 being divided unto two consoles, which required much more time to make sure both versions ran the same way. With only one version, they can focus all their effort into it alongside all the corner cutting they can do by reusing assets and only have to rework them.
I just wasn't thinking wide enough.

can you imagine his B attack being charged projectile spam of those scrolling bones of various heights

people keep citing the 6-7 year gap between prior games as some sort of development time when it was just time they spent not wanting to make a new one yet. The switch has been an absolute smash (heh) and they'd be stupid NOT to have started smash dev prior to the switch even coming out. It's not like it's some content-rich open world MMO or something
papyrus better take me on a date as his final smash
iirc Toby Fox is a huge smash fan, so papyrus or sans added to smash would probably break him
imagine making your dream game, and it succeding so much one of your own characters is added to your favorite fighting game a few years later
I dont see it happening but the perspective of it happening is fun
I'd be excited just to see an Undertale character make it in as an assist trophy if nothing else.
Nah man, add in Brad from LISA.
I really hope they redesign a lot of the characters. I'll be awesome to have Samus use the Aeon Ability similar to Shulk's ability and the Melee Counter to make her fresh.
I honestly hope nothing from Undertale is in Smash
I honestly hope nothing from Undertale is in Smash
I don't see what's wrong with the idea. Sure people may have a dislike for the game but it is no doubt a very popular indie game as of late. If there's any indie representation in Smash, it would probably be either Undertale or Shovel Knight because they're the most recent and big ones.
You joke but realize we're getting a Solaire amiibo.
I would probably EXPLODE if Solaire was in Smash.
Watch him just being a model swap of the WiiFit trainer.
I mean I don't expect it to happen because every single characters in smash have been owned/created by by either Nintendo, Capcom, Sega (Bayonneta), Namco (Pac-man) or Monolith Soft (Shulk). It'd be the first non AAA japanese character.
But otherwise there's no reason it can't happen, undertale is extremely popular in Japan.

his final smash is drug addiction
I played melee and brawl extremely casually at my friend's house once in a while, and started getting really into it ever since the demo for smash 4 came out on 3ds. I went to a midnight release, and kept playing it on 3ds until long after the rubber on the circle pad broke off. Even if it was a 100% straight smash 4 port I'd be ecstatic that I could play it on switch when I get one.
I really doubt it is, though. As out-of-touch Nintendo could be, I think there's no way they would let so many people down after making a trailer they knew would spawn dozens of reaction videos of people screaming and throwing things.
TBH I'd rather have Travis Touchdown before Doomguy, now that No More Heroes is back. The only problem is that he'd be yet another sword-wielding character in a roster already crammed with so many of them.
Imagine if Travis had to recharge his sword to keep it up. And then imagine that idea not coming to fruition because Nintendo wouldn't like to see Travis doing that.
But in more seriousness, they could give him the Rose Nasty to differentiate him a little. Don't have any dual wielders yet do we?(Edit: Nevermind, forgot about Pit) That plus his wrestling moves could make for an interesting character. With his final smash being the slots picking one of his abilities from the first/second game.(Tiger, energy blasts, hammer attack power on his weapon temporarily) Henry and Shinobu as assist trophies too.

Well it would make more sense for Shovel Knight to be added since that game had more involvement with Nintendo consoles than Undertale.
The main thing I want out of my Smash Bros games is for them to be as close to a combination of casual and competitive as possible. I love both of those aspects of the game and Melee managed to straddle that line so well; it has a bit for everyone. Brawl went too casual imo. SSB4 went back to a good mix, I could only want it to be just slightly more competitive. (Make Samus viable again, damnit)
I'd like to see an Excitebike Racer as the retro representative, he would constantly be on his bike and his attacks could be centered around different bike tricks. Vertical recovery could be a boost from his exhaust pipes or something like that.
Apparently the Melee devs tried to do that, but they couldn't figure out the animation for his double jump. They can always revisit the idea, though.
