There's nothing wrong with liking specific genres or not liking genres. You don't need to listen to every song in a genre to not like it, lol.
Yeah, but the video isn't saying you should get into every genre of music. You may not be into a certain genre, but you kinda have appreciated its history, importance, and its reason why its exist (unless it's just a meme). Sometimes it takes time to eventually grow on you. The Gorillaz is a project that takes those different kinds of genres and twist them around to something that isn't homogeneous so it could be respected even more.
It's liking saying all Dubstep is full of noise and "WUBWUB" even though its early sounds came from a fusion of Dub and UK Garage.

This one is probably my favourite song ever, not that I listen to it everyday, but I'm always particularly happy when it pops up on the playlist. Just as it is said in the video, I was around 15 when discovering and falling in love with Gorillaz as well. It's nice to hear they embrace that.

Heh, I remember seeing this the first time on MTV when I was in 2nd grade. Still a Gorillaz fan since then.
I stole my cousins Demon Days CD when I was 10 because it had cool pictures and holy shit I'm glad I did.
This video/thread made me finally decide to sit and listen to all of the main Gorillaz albums (Gorillaz, Demon Days, Plastic Beach, The Fall), considering I never have.
Oh and damon was in self titled deltron 3030 album also. For two songs right?
Yep, he was on Time Keeps On Slipping, which is interesting seeing as it was released before the first Gorillaz album.

He also made an appearance on Event 2.
Specking of reaching to a huge spectrum of genres, there are tons of influences of different artist of how they style that band music. This chart is pretty interesting:

this chart is so confusing
this chart is so confusing
I'd say it looks like a picture of a city's metro system.
Gorillaz was what actually set my taste in music in motion. I discovered so many different bands and genres that I didn't even realize existed at the time. It's also interesting to see how your taste grows as you listen, for some reason, I wasn't the biggest fan of Plastic Beach when it came out, other than like two songs. About a year later, I sat down and listened to the whole album all the way through, and I came out of it feeling like it was one of my favourite albums of all time.

Gorillaz is BY FAR my favorite band of all time. They are just something so special and uniquely excellent that I dont think anything will ever supersede them for me. I've been listening to them since I was 8 and every time you go back and listen every few months to their Discography you just find something new and wonderful in their songs that you never appreciated before. The music grows with you because it's so thoughtfully crafted and has so much love put into it. Everyone needs to check out their full discography, no exceptions.

I really think it's impossible to settle on a single Gorillaz song as the best because honestly everything they've done has been so great.
I was a die-hard Gorillaz fan. Bought their debut album twice because I listened to it so much and scratched the disk up. Also bought a t-shirt again because the first one was washed too many times. I love the cohesion to their aesthetic. It's a whole little world.

Example: I was listening to Demon Days after I had gotten a bit more into hiphop and heard Doom on this and flipped my shit, what a mindblow that was

While daft punk is what opened me up to music. Gorillaz/Blur Opened me up on what music could sound like. While now a days parklife is more relevant to my most listened albums. I'll never forget parklife and same thing with Demon days and Self titled. I might be a alt. rock head. But i fucking love funk/soul/disco in general... I'm pretty flexible and i gotta thank damon for that.

This is a good d-side song.
How is the story of Gorillaz if anyone knows. Last I checked there was an assault on the plastic beach and that was that.

as far as I've seen, they've moved to an apartment in England or somewhere similar, as seen in Do Ya Thing's music video. I say that while assuming the music video occurs after Plastic Beach.

The best thing about Gorillaz to me is that the music somehow manages to stay relevant to how you're feeling no matter how old you are. The best example to this, I think, is Clint Eastwood. There's been times that I felt like I was facing insanity, and the lyrics to that song manage to just nail it.
'hero who appears in you when you're too crazy'
'fear and sensations that you thought was there no squealin' and remember that it's all in your head'
i honestly can't tell for the life of me how many times i heard that last line pop up in my mind for the last few months now it's fucking crazy
What's really cool is that the characters are actually aging in real time. You can see 2D balding in some of the designs for the new album.
It feels like I'm actually growing up with these characters that don't exist.
im happy im feeling glad i got sunshine in a bag im useless but nothing along my future is comin on
and then at the end of the same song it all turns around and they cut out the first part of that sentence and they just repeat 'my future is comin on' and idk it just gives me something to think about you know?
also some songs on d-sides are just fucking great to listen to while walking in the moonlight
one time i was pretty buzzed and i remembered i still had some earbuds with me so i sat down in the park and listened to hong kong and just stared at the full moon
so fucking melancholious i cant even begin to explain how i felt right there and then. all i know it was really peaceful
one of my personal favourite albums and honestly one of the top 10 albums has to be Demon Days
From the iconic cover art to the songs, its got so much value and variety. I remember just listening to every song on repeat when i was a kid and i honestly think its Gorillaz that opened me up to so many different genres

I fucking love Stylo, it's so grimy sounding.

Yeah, that happens after Plastic Beach. The Boogieman from the Stylo video attacked the island due to a grudge he held against Murdock. Russell tosses a whale at the Boogieman, and the black clouds swallow the island. Cyborg Noodle starts malfunctioning and tries to kill Murdock, so he has to permanently shut her down. Meanwhile, the whale manages to break into 2D's room and swallow him whole, and he escapes. The Boogieman thinks he managed to kill Murdock, when in fact it was just a badly disguised decoy and he faked his own suicide, leaving the island earlier by a rowboat.
Gorillaz has gotta be my favorite band as well, like so many others here they really helped widen my taste in music. The combination of the illustrated characters and world paired alongside their crazy music just make listening/seeing them a blast. So happy I got to see them live on their Plastic Beach World Tour, best concert of all time for me so far.
