Wow, I just love his passion for the game. He did over 12,000 runs in a span of two years and still embraces the fact that someone could possibly beat him in the future if more exploits end up being discovered. That's humble as fuck. It also was more immersive to see him talk about the intricate methods used in the run and how he felt at certain moments of playing. I could never do this shit, but I still love the speed running scene. Even though I have no interest in performing runs like these, you got to marvel at the trial and error it truly takes to master a game like this.
I thought he said twelve hundred, not twelve thousand. [editline]1st August 2014[/editline] This guy has absolutely no charisma (it feels like I'm listening to a nervous highschooler read his essay he wrote five minutes before class started,) but dammit if he isn't the best. He does so many frame-perfect actions, things I never would have imagined to be possible without a tool assist.
If you don't like it then you could maybe, like, not enter a thread about speedruns and start shitposting?
Everyone shitposts once in a while, by this time next week i'll be looking back at these posts going "why god why." wow that was pretty nice
Even if you say what you think it'll still just be taken as stirring for reactions and receive reactions if it's not positive.
Not really. There is a difference between writing off something with one line and actually explaining why you don't like it/think its legitimate.
i don't know if you watch his normal streams but he behaves differently than what you saw in this video, which is a little stilted i think he's just trying to be a little more professional in this video, it's his big speedrunning accomplishment that will potentially generate a lot of traffic
You should have seen him. Imagine a guy who usually looks bored whether he nails a run or gutters it 4 hours through exhaling excitement.
I thought he said twelve hundred, not twelve thousand.
Yeah, you're right. Fixed that now.
Everyone shitposts once in a while, by this time next week i'll be looking back at these posts going "why god why."
You should be doing that right now because everyone else is. And that's a terrible excuse.
This guy has absolutely no charisma (it feels like I'm listening to a nervous highschooler read his essay he wrote five minutes before class started,)
Cosmo is horrible at reading scripts.
Everyone shitposts once in a while, by this time next week i'll be looking back at these posts going "why god why."
You're literally acknowledging right now that you're shit-posting and potentially breaking the rules. Good Job
Why are some people so uppity about speedruns? Every time a new one comes out, people flock to insult the runner, complain about "this is not how you play the game", and just generally moan about it. Are people so insulted and outraged by speedrunning that they have to make these comments? It just makes no sense to me. Same thing with E-Sports, people are playing/watching a game that you don't like to play/watch oooooh so scary.
What's interesting to me is how far ahead each "place" is in rankings of the speed run leaderboard. Seconds between each place are about 4, 2, even 8 seconds. This one is 40 seconds ahead of second place. In comparative terms, that's pretty huge.
This guy has absolutely no charisma (it feels like I'm listening to a nervous highschooler read his essay he wrote five minutes before class started,)
I didn't have problem with that, it's like watching a documentary lol

Some people feel that because it's done via exploiting the game's engine and coding, it's ruins the legitimacy. Which of course, has been stated, is why there are multile types of speed runs: 100%, Any%, TAS, no glitches, etc.

I do not understand.
A speed run that goes for like 5 hours with no cool and interesting glitches would be so fucking boring, but a speedrun that goes about 18 mins and shows off cool glitches that also helps explain how devs make games, now that is super interesting.
I didn't have problem with that, it's like watching a documentary lol
It was actually kinda difficult to watch because of that tbh.
Glitchy speed runs are my favorite. I find a game being broken twelve ways to Sunday way more fucking interesting than someone playing really fast. People like Cosmo and some of the Super Mario 64 runners who are humble and explain what they're doing are pretty much the only reason I follow any speed runs ever.
But why would people be so insulted and butthurt over it? I do not understand.
Because these kinds of runs are infinitely more difficult than a "legit" run and people have put fucking years of work into it. To trivialize it is to shit on the people who have spent thousands of hours of their lives working on these runs. Edit: Nvm, I misinterpreted what you were trying to say.
Glad to see he finally got this record. Been watching him speedrun this and Castlevania since 2012, and I can say that he has put amazing effort into this.
A lot of people don't seem to realize it's not always so easy to distinguish between a glitch and an intended part of the game. Most glitches are probably easily identified as such, but things like skips in levels due to well timed movement, for example, could be considered a secret or a glitch. Calling any part of a game a glitch is as I've heard it put: "Guessing at developers' intentions." This is why the default category that is any% allows glitches.
But why would people be so insulted and butthurt over it? I do not understand.
I bet that if beating a game via a glitched route took the same time as beating it normally, less people would be complaining

PLAY THE GAME FOR REAL!" I think that'll sum their mentality for you very well
Just use a gameshark and be done with it.

How many glitches does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a zelda game

To me, speedrunning is null and void when you bypass the game using glitches or unintended mechanics. Like it was stated above, might as well use a gameshark to just cheat it. The very first thing the guy says is people like to get additional replay value out of certain games by doing certain things, such as speedrunning, and he says himself that Zelda is a journey through an epic world, so how fast can you beat it. Well if you don't journey through the epic world, pretty fast I'd imagine Tool assisted speedruns are worse though. I look at those and think well big fucking deal. At least this type of speed running takes actual coordination, practice and skill
and also this is a pretty dumb and ignorant thing to say did you even watch the video? and do you even understand that that is the point why there are catagories? you should really look it up before saying things like that, because you're not getting it at all. the entire point is that it's for fun and it's actually a challenge to see how far you can take it. it's no challenge if you gameshark it, and it's completely ruining the meaning of doing it.
Man, one of my favorite things for a speedrun is when a runner can tell you the exact science behind a glitch or optimization
I'm always stunned at the ignorance people want to spout whenever a speedrun gets popular, and that's not to mention how dumb it gets when TASes are brought into the equation.
That was massively impressive. I was totally unaware of pretty much everything brought up in the video that he used to speed things up.
I've been watching Cosmo for a while and managed to catch this one live. It was really surreal; Cosmo usually looks pretty bored and stoic when he's running because he's gotten to the point where he can just put his brain on autopilot for a lot of these tricks. But THIS run was tense as hell. You could see him getting super excited and nervous and he just started shouting swear words out of unconscious reflex. It was crazy.
I got really into the run when I saw it, fucking physical "YESSS" reactions when I saw the void warp, it was awesome and chilling at the same time.
That kind of rush is the only reason to really watch speedruns. Seeing the world records as they happen is really the hype that gives speedruns watch-ability.
This man deserves to get laid.
Was it his girlfriend that hugged him just after the run?
