Provided the person that hugged/kissed him at the end is his significant other, I'd say that he did.
This sort of run is incredible to me. The amount of math and effort that it's taken is mind numbing. And the fact that he executed so many frame perfect moves, just holy shit.
I'm happy for Cosmo, been watching the guy since AGDQ 2012. I'm a bit sad I didn't get to see this live. I hope he will do MST or 100% sometime later.
I caught the end of the run when I woke up. I had a notification that Cosmo was streaming and I tuned in to see his splits. That got the hype going.
I dont understand how he can time the exact frame for the wrong warp without TAS tools.

Dedication, practice and knowledge. Cosmo is amazingly devoted to this run and he knows a lot of things about it. Not to mention he does use TAS tools to investigate these tricks.
Yeah but he only uses them to investigate. It's pretty mind blowing how he's learned the timing for this anyway

Also it's cool how much credit he gives to the other speedrunners for finding these glitches and time savers
As soon as he hit the split he yelled, Ocarina of Time Any% is dead, its over.
Then his girlfriend kissed him, was cute.
Afterwards, you could also see his eyes watering.
God damn, is there an archive of this stream anywhere?

its pretty intense lmao
Oh thanks I missed that post
This is seriously the cleanest speedrun I have ever seen in any game ever.
This is seriously the cleanest speedrun I have ever seen in any game ever.
If he hadn't lost four seconds on that early skip then it would have been essentially perfect. I'm glad he didn't let that little mistake get him down though, since this is altogether a really impressive feat.
To me, speedrunning is null and void when you bypass the game using glitches or unintended mechanics. Like it was stated above, might as well use a gameshark to just cheat it.
The very first thing the guy says is people like to get additional replay value out of certain games by doing certain things, such as speedrunning, and he says himself that Zelda is a journey through an epic world, so how fast can you beat it. Well if you don't journey through the epic world, pretty fast I'd imagine
Tool assisted speedruns are worse though. I look at those and think well big fucking deal. At least this type of speed running takes actual coordination, practice and skill
except tool assisted speedruns are still pretty fucking hard to nail down.
Why are some people so uppity about speedruns? Every time a new one comes out, people flock to insult the runner, complain about "this is not how you play the game", and just generally moan about it. Are people so insulted and outraged by speedrunning that they have to make these comments?
It just makes no sense to me. Same thing with E-Sports, people are playing/watching a game that you don't like to play/watch oooooh so scary.
I think it's because speed runners make it look so easy. Since Cosmo has practiced this so much, it looks almost effortless.
So you get people who couldn't even get past the Deku tree when they were kids being like "Wtf? This kid is just doing some glitches that's not even hard! It takes more skill to beat the game normally!"
When anyone who has ever tuned into Cosmo's stream knows the exact opposite is true :v:

And for those who don't know how technical these glitches are, watch this run from some time ago <around when this path was discovered.>

Half of the run is dedicated to describing the mechanics of the wrong warp and tower collapse. Its also really funny see him disregard void warp as an incredible tas only time saver when he himself uses it much later.
Makes me a bit sad that that once that 4 seconds are done there will be very little improvement for a long while.
The run was already incredible without the 4 second timesaver. Even if someone tries to grind out for those 4 seconds, it'll still likely be a long while before they do get it.
TAS are the only runs I don't really consider "valid" speedruns because they miss the human player element. That being said, I understand that TAS are super important to the speed running community since they're usually the forefront of discovering new tricks and techniques. And they can do really impressive things since they're the absolute perfect a player could theoretically do. Like this Ice Cavern TAS:

It'd be years, mostly due to luck with the void warp rocks, Mido skip, and the RNG on the Skulltulas AND the Cuckoos. Even after all that, the run was played perfectly, four seconds doesn't mean that much when you have a zero margin of error for the entire run.
I don't think it'll ever be beaten unless there's some new strat for Ocarina items without a bottle, so you could go to the warp faster.

Keep in mind this is tool-assisted.
Keep in mind this is tool-assisted.
I know. I'm saying that tool-assisted can make for some really interesting runs since they can do everything frame-perfectly, but I don't consider them valid speed runs since they lack the human player element and can get away with otherwise impossible things.

idk how anyone can hate cosmo, he's such an awesome guy and his attitude toward speedrunning is basically just that he finds it interesting to push a game to it's limits, and he always acknowledges that not everybody approaches games the way he does and that's totally okay. he also does a great job at explaining all the glitches/the order that he does things and even how those things were discovered. i think if you have anything against cosmo you just have no idea what you're talking about, he's the most reasonable guy ever
Cosmo is literally both a speedrunner and an educator from what i've seen his zelda runs

Psst TAS's are still played by a human. They are just using software that allows them to do perfect inputs and shit.
i'd love to see how a speedrunner scouts out the glitches and figures out the best 'route' through the game
To me, tool assisted are very well valid speedruns, but they are a seperate category, just how any% and 100% are different
TAS speedruns are kinda amusing to watch when the character spazz out and insta-gib the boss or something.
Good for Cosmo. Awesome run. I kind of want to see the original stream, if it had his usual facecam.
I'm still not use to him using a facecam. How long has he been using one now, over a year? Maybe it's just his face.
