The atmosphere was good, and I liked the story because of the concept of a story being based around regular survivors. For something like this to be a full length movie you would have to have somebody as bad ass as Gordon Freeman to keep it going for any longer than this movie did.
Combines with g36's?
I honestly don't see what is wrong with this.
Anyone notice that during the machete-ish fight when the combine solder deflected the can and had dust fly in his face he reacted as though it impaired him inspite of him wearing a full coverage gas mask.
When did Metro Cops turn into Ninja's?
They do glow in the dark and it was pitch black. How things look in Source, how they look through a camera and how they look to eyes are three different things.
Well I guess the camera was too saturated then, there was just something that I didn't enjoy about the colors, it made it look too "ExTREmE".
That seemed to be their chosen look, yes.
i should elaborate as to why it sucked the story was fucking stupid. it almost had no story. it was just a series of events with no consequence or meaning. in fact it reminded me a lot of that part in the animatrix where the chick is doing parkour and shit to deliver a package this was pointless, and it mooched of somebody elses idea. i don't have a problem with basing something in a universe you didn't create, but there was just no fucking point to this. [editline]24th January 2011[/editline] they could have written a great short story. one that didn't even need any cgi. maybe from the perspective of a civilian man in one of the apartments, and maybe his pregnant wife is taken away by the combine and he is forced to live in the sewers, a depressed and broken man. SOMETHING but this was people running around like retards with after effects up the wazoo. it was just fucking dumb.
Holographic watch that can't transmit data unless it's in the right spot. Must be with AT&T.
If they didn't have HL2 references then it would be good, but it was to inconsistent with the HL universe to be cannon, yet it clames to be a HL2 film.

Beyond Black Mesa: i forogot the point i was making?
Why can't you guys just sit there and enjoy the goddamn movie
A: Because it was terrible.
this is fucking bad
I liked the trailer more than I liked the actual movie.
[img_thumb]http://gyazo.com/f519fb205acd88b0cb47f9a0b070182a.png[/img_thumb] that's the most stupidest think i ever heard
Oh my god. Beautifully choreographed my ass. One of the worst scenes was at 10:37.
"Hey we have over 1,000 dollars, ohh shit the camera and props used it all use generic fire effects."
The visuals were awesome. The camera work was pretty good but way too shaky on a lot of parts. The post-production was pretty tidy except for some/most of the blood parts, the editing itself was great though. The music was fine, didn't make it any better, but I don't think it made it any worse either. However, the sounds, the plot, and the "fight" scenes really need to be revised. The sounds were just overlayed. The plot had a starting point, but there was no reason to send the transmission. The fights were great... if it wasn't suppose to be Half-Life. Overall I think they did a great job for a short film, but they need to stick to the Half-Life story a lot more then they did if they expect people to accept it.
I thought it was really good, I don't see why everyone is complaining about the tiniest errors, this was an amazing project made by some random people who are not professionals. Gets an A+ in my book.
this man speaks the truth.
That was awful. It's like they made a crappy post-apocalyptic short with no story and so to get attention they slapped lambdas, HL2 sound effects and explosions on everything.
ITT nerd rage i think this video was excellent great effects and props, good use of hl2 sound effects i liked the kung-fu part near the end, i found myself wishing there were an enemy like that in hl2
ITT nerd rage i think this video was excellent great effects and props, good use of hl2 sound effects
Oh like that grenade at 0:41 that had explosion sound effect of a grenade but destroyed half a house. What. [editline]24th January 2011[/editline] Half life is not Big dumb action movie material.
Why do they have hologram computers? Half-Life 2 didn't have hologram computers, unless maybe the Combine ones are.
Why do they have hologram computers? Half-Life 2 didn't have hologram computers, unless maybe the Combine ones are.
spoiler alert, they aren't
Why don't people understand that a FAN FILM that destroys all continuity between and the universe it's based on makes it both insulting and pointless. Seriously, if i made a Star Trek fan film one day and have it where they were shooting more futuristic versions of modern day weapons as opposed to phasers, i would get shit for it. EDIT: If it's going to be loosely based on something or have a different interpritation on it, say it. Don't get bitchy and delete a whole bunch of comments on your Youtube video.

You would however if props of phasers would be available and the same price as your guns. And definitely you'd get shit if a fat asian kid would play obi wan, who gets drunk in a strip club and fights zombies with a katana.
the key thing to a good independent film is STORY. you need a GOOD STORY. everything else is forgivable. it's the story that matters.
I cant really see where the budget went other than maybe buying video editing software. These days, I am not impressed no, rather annoyed by how everyone can learn how to make hollywood effects in your hobby short films. There is more to it than showing off holographic interface effects. If you scrape off the thick layer of digital effects, the camerawork and lighting is pretty aweful in places. The costumes look kind of lame, considering they had a lot of money to blow on awesome props. I mean, yeah, the thechnology we have is fascinating, but please don't forget movie making is about so much more. A friend of mine (in his late 60s today) used to make short films all his life and they had no action, only dialoge and everyday situations teaching lessons about life. And it took him years to make those. Getting actors, renting cameras, building rigs for the differend shots and mostly directing and cutting. These are things you should put first and use the advantages of digital film to save time and money. But making a bunch of quick shots and overloading them with digital post editing? You will only end up with something to show off your after effects skills. And that is nothing really special these days

But you're a moron, your argument that visual effects don't make a movie is flawed. How is being good at after effects not impressive?

How is being good at after effects not impressive?
Don't go ahead calling people morons. I personally am not impressed with post editing digital effects because it is neither a rare talent these days or something that makes a solid basis for any sort of film. Filmmaking starts in other places and ends in postproduction. And special effects displays are by all means all over the internet.
