Looks like Ps4 is the way to go if you're buying a console.
LOL at console gamers raging. xbox one and ps4 are just straight up PCs now. So of course it's going to require installation, and not support backwards compatibility.
[editline]21st May 2013[/editline]
How so? They are the exact same shit now. AMD cpus and gpus with 8gb of ram.
PS4's arent putting a fee out for used games are they.
PS4's arent being merchandised as a sooped up universal remote.
The PS4 has games.

MS support said they don't require a fee.
MS is targeting people who require a home entertainment system. How is that a bad thing and how is that going to distract you from gaming? Remember people who bought a ps3 for the sole purpose of playing bluray disks?
ps4 and xbox one have the exact same architecture now. x86 AMD cpus and gpus with 8gb of ram. So, any game that's available for ps3 will also be available for pc and xbox one.
Xbox One has No games
PS4 has games
Nintendo is being Nintendo.
It's come full circle since 2005
I thought Facepunch hated Angry Joe.
That being said he does make some good points, I personally think backwards compatibility isn't too big a deal but other than that the whole thing just seems like a scam.
I like Angry Joe's reviews, he just tries to force humour too much sometimes and it gets stale.
He has some videos that are much more tame in that regard and they're great
I like Angry Joe because he feels really genuine. He'll give a game a 6/10 and still recommend it, rather than the popular method of 7=terrible 10=GOTY.

Because its supposed to be a game console first and foremost, show GAMES, show the other shit later.
Also uh, you remember the last twitter incident with MS stuff right?

That summed him up pretty well. Even if his humour is off-the-mark a lot of the time, he's still a good reviewer underneath, if a bit excitable and flawed, and he's usually interesting and fun to listen to past his flaws.
Besides, he's more like Energetic Joe half the time.

I forget what review it was, but in one joke he's complaining about the stereotypes in a game, including "the loudmouth Texan with the huge belt buckle who's always losing his shit" but has to admit that that actually sums him up pretty well.
I completely agree with Joe, this industry is becoming a joke and Microsoft has completely failed.
Sony is doing it right. This console war is no longer about preference, it's about progress vs going backwards. This new xbox is almost like an extremist parody of what I was suspecting of xbox turning into anyways now, it's just a joke... The ps4 reveal wasn't amazing, but it looks fucking crazy good compared to this retarded plan microsoft has set out.
And the sad thing is, it might work. People are stupid, people are stupid and gullible enough to support this ignorant company even further.
I'm glad he's outraged about fees to play a friend's game.
In the balance between offering customers a fair price, and profitability, things are looking ugly I reckon. These businesses are putting pricetags where they shouldn't belong, or trying to make new "products" to sell like unlocks, in-game money, anything limited edition that's digital, pre-purchase bonus without demos, and pay-to-win features for games that aren't even free to play. Limited editions alienate me when they're digital, and I couldn't care less for official licenses or brands. Unlocks are a sad thing to see having a price tag slapped on, since there used to be cheat codes for them. At least I have more money now that I spend less on these awful products, but it would be nice to see reasonable prices for products in one package again.
Some ridiculous products or prices I've seen lately :
SimCity DIGITAL DELUXE £64.99/$98.56 on Origin
Saints Row: The Third - Unlockable Pack (pay to unlock things)
Battlefield 3 The Ultimate Shortcut Bundle £24.99/$37.91 on Origin (pay to unlock things)
FIFA 13 Bonus Edition £59.99/$90.98 on Origin
4600 FIFA Points £31.99/$48.52 on Origin (I don't even know what that is, but it sounds stupid)
Bugatti Type 51 $35.00 on SimRaceWay (35 dollars for ONE car in a racing game)
Getting back to Microsoft, I think Games for Windows Live was one of the worst things to happen to PC gaming. I was so happy to see it start dying out from new releases. I hope they can try to offer the market some excellent contributions in future, rather than try to control it and keep me uninterested. Things don't go the way I want and that makes me sad :(
i cant help but hear carlos mencia, good rant though
The difference between PC DRM and XBOX One (lol) DRM is that PC games aren't locked to once computer no matter the publisher, reseller or dev. Also, Most DRM that doesn't require clients allow multiple people to play the same game, with the same serial on multiple computers. Hell, Even Steam and Origin allows that via Offline mode. You should stop tirading like this, you've obviously got no clue about the subject of DRM.
[editline]22nd May 2013[/editline]
Also, You're never required to pay a fucking Hostage fee to play your PC game on another piece of hardware.
[editline]22nd May 2013[/editline]
"we will not block used game sales" What a fucking lie. The press should be at their throats now. But no. Fuck that, we've got Mountain Dew and Halo!
this DRM is not locked to one console, they are locked to the gamertag. you are factually wrong on that point. You don't know what you're talking about. While you go on about how great PC DRM is you surely realize it limits you to five installs over all TIME. Yes you can do it on multiple computers, but after five you're done forever unless you can "convince" the publisher that you need more. Not only that, but I've bought in box PC games where the keys simply didn't work! IT'S SHIT DRM. You cannot justify that kind of bullshit over a key that is tied to a TRANSFERABLE gamer ID (aka the way steam works) Also, you don't know that xbox doesn't allow offline play. You don't know. You're just assuming.
I'd rather pay a hostage fee to add a game to a new ID than only have FIVE installs for ALL ETERNITY. You seem to be picking and choosing what to understand about the DRM as well. First you say "you have to pay a hostage fee" showing you understand used games sales/lending games is possible, but then say they are going to block used games sales? Right there you already explained how used games sales are possible! How do you not understand it the next sentence?

I remember when they said CoD had better graphics than Battlefield. Activision flew reviewers out to fancy resorts and stuff to review CoD in 2010 or 2011. I wonder if they still do it now.
I've been thinking. Now would be a good time for any underdog company to create a new console that could have a good chance in the market. With the underwhelming reveals so far for the next gen people are getting tired of Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. The announcement of a new gaming console by some other company that shows good promise or innovative tech would gain a lot of support. People want to see something new, something that will get them excited. I don't think any of the big companies have been able to do that thus far.
I think a lot of people here just want to bitch about something. Funny how irrelevant they are. There's always going to be people how don't like it, and people who do. Why in the hell do you guys care so goddamn much to argue about it? It's so pointless and irrelevant to your life (unless your whole life revolves around video games). Quit bitching and move on with your life. If you don't like it, build your own goddamn system.

investment comes before the product is even created. it literally works the exact opposite of how you are explaining it
this dude has getting mad about trivial shit down to an art
okay, let me just explain it this way; you present to the stockholders to get the funding in the first place, to appeal to what they believe to be a profitable demographic, THEN you focus on actual product development. That's why so little is explained in specifics at this press conference, and most press conferences. It's for PRESS! When you say "the xbox can play TV and games at the same time" how the fuck would they think "that couldn't possibly make a profit they are going to alienate the "core" TEN PERCENT!"

almost all companies do that for AAA titles
[editline]21st May 2013[/editline]
honestly, why would they review the entire halo franchise... It's because stockholders don't really know shit about it lol. obviously core gamers do! it's not for you.
let's look at FP as a consumer. The guys that usually only play PC games but maybe own a console to play a game or two here or there. The type that will not buy a kinect, the type that doesn't have children, the type that does not have an actual reasonably disposable income.
you are, say, 5% of the xbox's market? You may be 50% to ONE publisher that makes a type of game specifically for you! BUT to the xbox? You're nothing. You're a vocal minority.
Proof? Just look at games sales numbers. CoD and Madden DWARF any "hardcore" title, so why would they try to appeal to the hardcore, the hardcore audience that is not in any way growing and typically buys the consoles despite their complaints?
The point I'm making it that this press conference is not for you. they are not showing the hardcore games because the people they care about watching this are not hardcore gamers. they care about the stockholders with families and millions invested that just want to know the real "zingers" and "bullet points" and that's it.
your entire argument is that the consumers dont matter
we as consumers are getting mad and you are telling us we are wrong
r u a stockholder
First off, let me tell you why thats bullshit...
How exactly do you know that all the consumers are pissed off? I would really be interested to hear how you contain such knowledge?
Or are you just basing this off of your opinion? Because we all know only your opinion matters.
I'm not saying that MS's stratedgy is right but rather that it makes sense and to complain about it (the reveal) is to completely miss the point of the presentation in the first place
He has a point. If this is what they came up with after waiting a month to "respond to the Playstation reveal", I can only imagine how awful it was before.
Fortunately my opinions aren't based off of what people on the internet think.
I knew it was gonna be shit when I first heard that they were going to crack down on used gaming months ago.
It was just as bad as I expected... all these terrible social aspects.
I hate how all these conventions and announcements are kiss-ass events. No journalists asking critical questions and demanding answers or anything.
Apparently, I am one of few on FP who is going to get a Xbox One. It's funny that in the real world, I know so many people who are stoked for the Xbox One. Guess I should stick to the real world huh.
And it is fortunate for MS that most of it's money is not reliant on the people of FP. Now matter how much the people here think it is.
