Spielberg confesses on Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I like how everyone blames Lucas when Harrison is the one who got the fucking ball rolling :geno:
I can't tell if George Lucas is the biggest scapegoat in the history of entertainment or he really is that ridiculously bad.
Crystal Skull wasn't a great movie, but it wasn't a bad movie. Still, the Aliens plot twist or whatever the fuck was fucking stupid.
Well no, the problem wasn't the aliens. Why do people think that?
The problem was it was a bad movie. That was it's problem, it wasn't that well made.

Harrison just wanted to revisit the character, who can blame him?
It could have been good, but it wasn't.
I blame George.
I'd say I enjoyed this and the Star Wars prequels, but in the mind of fan boys, that would mean I'm a total idiot deserving of death.
Yeah I've seen some of his reviews. He makes good points, but he seems like that kind of person that chooses not to enjoy a movie before he watches it.
Indiana Jones was originally a love letter to the B-movie action capers of Spielberg and Lucas's youth. The next logical step forward after religion was exhaustively covered was sci-fi and aliens, taking the step from 40's movies to 50's movies. It makes sense when you think about it, but ultimately over the years Indy had become intertwined with tomb raiding and archaeology, so of course the fans were upset about it.
Crystal Skull was nowhere near as good as any of the originals, but it was also nowhere near the bastardization of the Star Wars trilogy. Lucas gets a lot of shit, most of it justified, but this movie really wasn't all that bad, all things considered.
I love it when incredibly damning stuff like this makes it into documentaries
I mean, I could understand if they editors left in a bit where Spielberg admitted to being initially reluctant. But I don't understand why leaving all this in seemed like a good idea
I still have no clue why everybody gets their panties in a bunch over this movie.
Was it amazing? No.
Was it a fun ride that let you leave your brain at the door? Of course.
I don't see how aliens don't fit in the series. The series is a homage to B movies with all the mystical and magical artifacts. It isn't like this breaks some established realism in the series.

He watched them when they first came out, he's reviewing them almost a decade later.
why does everyone hate on temple of doom man
that was a good movie
It's my favorite of the 4. :v:
And do I need to remind you of the goddamn fridge?
The whole scene was awesome. :saddowns:
I don't even count Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as part of the Indiana Jones series. It's more of a really bad fan fiction to me and I don't bring it up in any conversation relating to Indiana Jones. Good job, George, you've ruined another good film series.
Same with the prequel trilogy. It might as well have been done by the same people who did Twilight.
Well, I thought it was a rather enjoyable film.
Same. I don't get how someone can enjoy the first 3 but not this one, they are pretty much the same. The only thing I can see why people didn't like was the aliens, but that was like 5 minutes at the end. Personally I don't see why having aliens is much more silly than WTF MAGICAL GOD POWERS but maybe that's just me.

Also the fridge was awesome. Yeah it was stupid, but this is Indiana Jones; the first 3 were also stupid, IT'S MEANT TO BE LIKE THAT. If you want a grittyseriousgrimdark action-adventure movie go watch something else.

i liked how it's based on the fiction of the time it's set - artefacts and temples were popular in the 30s, and sci fi was popular in the 50s
You guys have to realize that these are real people and even though being in the film industry means you have to satisfy the customer, they do not have to cater to your every wish.
They made this movie just for shits and giggles, he even said it in the beginning.
tbh i think a main reason people don't like it is because they were expecting it to be The Phantom Menace. They hated what Lucas did to star wars (with good reason, but that's beside the point), and thus went in to the theatre focussing on the negatives, rather than enjoying it for what it was.
No, they just didn't like it because it was bad. Simple as that. Temple of Doom was quite dodgy as well, but not quite so bad.

Indiana Jones is perhaps the prime example that you don't have to leave your brain at the door at all in order to have fun. Crystal Skull just shits all over that.
Have fun watching shitty movies in simpleton land.

Really, all the best "fun" movies are the ones where the plot isn't trying to break down your IQ.
Star Wars, Indy, BTTF, ID4, Aliens, Jurassic Park, etc.
But no, apparently now movies have to suffer from terminal idiocy to be "fun".
Which doesn't make them fun at all. In fact it makes them pukeworthy.

Wow, you are total idiot. No one said that movies had to be stupid to be fun. He's just saying that it's not completely stupid and is possible to enjoy.
But it is completely stupid.
See: nuking the fridge.

And therefore impossible to enjoy? You really need to stop looking at the movie from the view of a critic and over-reacting fanboy and rather someone going into the theater to have FUN. NOT TO GRADE A FUCKING TEST.
WHAT DID I JUST FUCKING POST are you retarded or something
He left his brain at the door.
i like how that south park episode kind of got them the other way around
#1 thing i hate about film makers (including myself) FUCKING HAVE A SHAVE YOU OLD MEN
The sequel really wasn't as bad as people made it out to be, yes it had some unrealistic moments but so did the first 3 films, and yes it jumped the shark a bit with the "aliens", but it was a fun fast paced silly action flick, which is all the Indiana Jones movies have ever been, this one just didn't have that nostalgia value to back it up.
Hoping for something as extraordinary in the next one!
It's funny how everyone is saying that aliens ruined the series, considering the fact that three previous movies all had one thing in common - all the artifacts had something to do with religion. The artifacts even possess magical powers, if that isn't far fetched then I don't know what is.
Aliens weren't the problem, its the cgi everywhere and the fucking freedom fridge.

I like the approach of "every myth is true". It's interesting. And the whole alien seeded civilization thing must then also be true in Indy.
But yeah, so far the quality of the films has seemed strangely connected to whether or not the myth in question is christian. So something like... noahs ark next time maybe?
It wasn't a bad movie and it will be classic for me, mainly because it has most of the cast from originals. But I hated the aliens part, they just don't fit in my opinion. Well, they could have, but the ending went a different way. And Shia LaBeouf as Indy's son... Well... Whatever.

and that is the only ridiculous thing that has happened in the Indiana Jones Series?
