Fireworks can indeed destroy and kill, but they don't, generally. There's an LA Beast video of the guy getting shot with fireworks again and again from a few metres away and walking away unscathed. I know the average person is not as hardy as him, but he was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. It's not like he's invincible. The thing this boils down to is prohibiting behaviour because we believe people may be hurt. From this, I see that 4 people die each year in the US from fireworks. That really isn't that much. Recreational gun use kills people. Full-contact sports kill people. There have even been paintball fatalities. My point is that of course something like this was dangerous and irresponsible to get unwilling bystanders involved, but honestly, the danger of incidents like these is pretty overplayed. The conditions in that video were completely ripe for someone to get badly burned at the very least, yet it seems no one did.
It depends how you get hit. If you take one of those large mortars to the chest, may get the wind knocked out of you pretty good and a hefty bruise, not that big of a deal. But if you get hit with it as it goes off, your ass is going to the hospital no doubt. Burns and hearing damage, maybe worse. And not any crappy small burn either. Even a small firework catching in your shirt collar will burn you pretty severely, then when it goes off you get even more burns There's a nice video of some airsofters using a firework to signal an event and it flies and gets caught under a guy's mag carrier and it burns through his shirt and sent him to the hospital with some pretty nasty shit

Fucking shit was disgusting to deal with wound wise. Also you have no idea how loud and dazed a firework mortar shell can be when going off near you on the ground.
There was like 10 grenade attacks in malmö this year so I guess this is relatively mild though
There was like 10 grenade attacks in malmö this year so I guess this is relatively mild though
Uh why is this a thing? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_grenade_attacks_in_Sweden
Uh why is this a thing? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_grenade_attacks_in_Sweden
Somehow it is not classified as a weapon under laws and you can freely take it in into the country without consequences if caught smuggling them. It is only banned to own them. https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.svd.se%2Ffritt-fram-ta-in-handgranater-i-sverige

This just reminded me of this classic:
