I pose a question to the people complaining about this port. Would you rather them spend copious amounts of resources so that this Fallout port is Goldilocks "just right" for you? Or would you rather them spend those resources on the Elder Scrolls game that's going to be announced next year? I think Bethesda specifically not spending as much time on this specific port is actually a better thing in the long run. Fallout 4 VR is just another small thing to fill the time until next years E3. It has its downsides but it's also a stepping stone; treat it as such.
I actually forgot to reply to this when I saw it on my phone but oddly enough, yes and no, and I actually specifically wanted VR for fallout before anyone even knew that'd be a good idea I think that perhaps this isn't as fleshed out as it should be and in some ways will detract from their next game. Their re-release addiction may hurt it but, we don't know yet because we've not heard of it. I don't think they should detract from their current project. HOWEVER, this is still a very good test bed to see how the dev team handles a game like this in VR and what is needed to see what happens. It can lead to a superior experiance. Same logic can be applied to lets say, a game like GTA4 getting online. Even if it works a little shitty its an excellent test bed to see what works and how it can maybe be applied and optimized. It's a baseline for whats to come. I feel like perhaps they should have first released a Valve Test Lab sized tech demo game before Fallout 4 to get an idea of what to do. I'm legit hype for what may be in store. And Fallout 4 VR is still an exciting thing to see, but its obvious that they don't quite know what where to take this. So it may have been necessary to just make this before they try anything else. But you're totally right, its a stepping stone that will perhaps lead to something bigger and better. VR is going to need to get worse before it gets better, even now with all of the experimental games. I'm hype as all fuck to see what Serious Sam 4 will hold for us. Croteam is working hard on porting their games to VR and its looking excellent. They have a clear idea of what they want. It's most likely going to be quite the same experience but in VR and I'm OK with that. [editline]26th December 2017[/editline]
I'm not disagreeing with you guys; no one is... Of course it would be awesome to have realistic proportions and the ability to see your player model. What we're saying is; it was not viable to have those features and stay within the release schedule, and also your venom towards the game for not having those features is unjustified.
Personally I'm just happy to see VR getting the attention it deserves. I can understand peoples venom about it but I feel like everyone needs to understand that AAA studio's are different than indie studios that have the time to experiment with these features and must rely on them. Indie studios don't have the budget or people but they have also don't have a suit looming over them and demanding a tight release date.
As someone who definitely has a rig that supports it, is VR worth it?
As someone who definitely has a rig that supports it, is VR worth it?
Go get a Rift. It's very very cheap right now and VR is definitely very fun. It creates a unique and interesting experience that can even create completely fresh ways to play a game. Even simple games can feel a lot more exciting by just strapping a moving screen to your face. Perspective is about 1:1 It's worth it, but if you have a tight budget, if that's the case, Gen 2 has far more to come, wait for Gen 2 and buy it then so you get the more refined version You could get a Vive instead, I have that, but the Rift's cost makes it impossible to decline. They're basically equal so don't worry about quality.
So, I had my vive content bundle code from when I bought my vive like 4 months ago, back when the included content was stuff like tiltbrush, "richie's plank experience," and a month's subscription of viveport. Since none of that interested me, I never redeemed it. Well today I remembered I had it, and as a shot in the dark, redeemed it, and got Fallout 4 VR.
I fundamentally disagree. These are still games at their core. If you don’t enjoy Fallout on your flat screen, you won’t enjoy it in VR, and vice versa. Once you get past the honeymoon period, games are games. The cheesy input gimmicks have hugely diminishing returns once you get past the basics. Focus on the core game, not adding cheesy input shit.
I respectfully disagree. There are definitely games I'd enjoy in VR and not on a flatscreen - Elite: Dangerous being a major example of that for me. There are definitely games I enjoy on a flatscreen and not in VR - like Subnautica. And then there are games that work great in both - Minecraft in VR is something else. Tabletop Sim also works pretty well in both mediums. I'm assuming you haven't used VR but that "cheesy input shit" is what forms every ounce of your immersion. I was ducking behind a pile of crates in H3VR Take & Hold mode while frantically trying to get a mag into a pistol, dropped it on accident, it landed standing straight up by chance but didn't fall over, so I slammed the gun onto the mag. And it worked. Nothing gets me more immersed in VR than when you try stupid little stuff like that and it really works. You'd be amazed what the little things do for the experience. [editline]27th December 2017[/editline]
As someone who definitely has a rig that supports it, is VR worth it?
Considering its' price tag right now, for what it is, yes Considering you can easily pay $200-300 for a racing wheel or way more for a high quality HOTAS, the price of VR is pretty fucking fantastic IMO [editline]27th December 2017[/editline]
Alright, fair enough but that doesn't mean you should act like a dick too. You blew him off earlier by telling him he shouldn't even bother with VR because he doesn't care for motion controls. I shouldn't have called you guys out specifically, but VR threads always turn into people being assholes to each other just because they want different things from VR. You shouldn't shit on others because they want different things from VR, if you do you're just one of the assholes who puts people off even trying it in the first place.
:v: What ? The VR general thread in GGD hasn't had this issue All I'm going to say is maybe you (everyone, not you specifically) should experience it before talking about what you want from it. It'd be hard to judge how to make a Ferrari drive better if you've never even sat behind the wheel of one, would it not?
Hmm, the Vive is actually on sale right now with the audio adapter for much, much cheaper than usual. Genuinely tempted
