"we have the best fans"
Yes and No. Not, there a LOT of assholes in the fanbase. Id say more so than any other series. Yes, because they are always going to buy more of your games, no matter what.
The "new engine" is still brush based
I love they way they're calling LOD's revolutionary.
I love how it's actually not LODs and probably some sort of tesselation
[editline]21st May 2013[/editline]
or actually i'm seeing edge loops for models so may actually be legit subdivision
dynamically controlled sub-d would be so cool (and also oddly enough, never done before in video games!)

looks pretty much mesh driven to me (which puts it a bit more modern than valve's tech, lol)
They better fucking fix the animations for this shit. I hated how when someone got shot with a high-powered rifle they just fall to the floor instead of flying back a few feet.
are you familiar with newton's third law by any chance?

catmull-clark subd is supported in CE3 (presumably for architectural vis and shit like that, not really games). i really don't know why they're pushing subd, it's really more of an artist's tool than something to be rendering games with. typical D3D11/OpenGL tesselation with displacement maps do the job more efficiently, you don't need something that's going to be focusing on making quads dynamically.

yeah i think it'd be pretty -interesting- if they actually get sub-d in there instead of tesselation but if they can afford it then more power to them
although they'd only probably do it for hardsurface things like guns and other various gear where tesselation wouldn't quite make sense (due to heightmaps only supporting up to a certain height with a certain degree of precision or also being compressed / uv splits are much more frequent) as it would remove the need for normal / height maps entirely for said models

That wood structure is brushes, and radiant doesn't do displacements, it does brushes with vertices for terrain

I wonder if there will be unusuals.
Character customization was supposed to be in CoD4. Waaaaaaaay back when I remember a developer saying so in a game during the CoD4 beta.
I love they way they're calling LOD's revolutionary.
guys i got it
COD games are actually super advanced using next-next-next-next gen technology, in the year 1992. they are making games in the past, and sending them into the future.
Call of Duty is fuckin' fun. I just wish they didn't charge so much for the games. I'd definitely buy Total War Rome II over another CoD game for the same price.
Sheesh, why a behind the scenes vid? The trailer was released like a month ago:

But will the dog have customizable ironsights?

Jesus Christ, I started dying when they said, "Elixir of Freedom".

they're not typical LODs, but w/e
[editline]21st May 2013[/editline]
it's sort of like a active computation of detailing geometry. LODs imply that the extra detail is premodelled, but subd takes a basic quasi-low poly surface and adds detail to it via a mathemetic algorithm. for example, a simple cube then with multiple added iterations of catmull-clark sub-divisional surfaces.

the technology behind it isn't necessarily new - in fact it's been around since the '70s, but it hasn't really existed in games so far due the practicalities.
I don't even know what is familiar about the story. The United States is in ruins and you are fighting against a militarily superior foe. I don't remember that in CoD.
So the new CoD is basically Homefront?
I was never truly a HUGE fan of CoD. I've played all of them, online and off, but it never captured me. The dynamic multiplayer maps and the customization may shed a little bit of a new light.
Plus, that pole falling onto that police car was awesome. Lets hope it'll have some destruction and they're just not telling us yet.
Yay time to use the same Engine with minor upgrades for the next 7 years.
Fuck no, that's not a custom new graphics engine.
They just spruced up some details, added some environment crap (dust, smoke, la la la effects), pretty much as Dice did with BF4.
Who you kiddin' brah? Ghost sucks ghost balls.
Wow a plot device that's supposed to make player care about what's going on. So fresh. So original. Never before seen in CoD franchise.
Because that little girl in MW3 worked so well.
So the new CoD is basically Homefront?
instead of koreans, im betting its hyperinternational superterrorist russians

Little girl? I'll be completely honest I don't remember a single thing that happened in MW3.
Little girl? I'll be completely honest I don't remember a single thing that happened in MW3.
I think in MW3 there was a scene where a girl was getting her photo taken then an explosion kills her or something, can't remember.

That's what IW was trying to achieve with that scene, I guess. Just look at all that shock and controversy.
I wouldn't give a shit one way or the other about this dull worthless nonsense if they showed literally anything else video game related at the announcement of a new video games console
there wasn't even anything laughably bad at the conference. it was just depressingly hollow cowtowing to investors and using condescending buzzwords in every other sentence. it literally represented everything bad about the current state of the video game industry. and a dog companion (that you just know is there for the poignancy of killing it off at the end) with some fancy rendering tricks that i wouldn't even notice when playing the game aren't about to make call of duty any less stale or any more worthwhile, especially with infinity ward at the helm.
Almost all those models are re-used from mw3, lol.
Wait they finally stopped using a 13 year old engine?
So apparently this one's being written by the guy who wrote "Traffic". That's promising I guess?
It'll still be basic as shit so idiots don't get confused and start saying the story is awful.
Why do they put emphasis on the story when the overwhelming majority mostly care about the multiplayer.

Because you can totally tell a game sucks from 2 pre-release videos.
