This short would've been so much better if it was just S76 beating up some crime lords for 6 minutes, cut out all of the sentimental bullshit that they're trying to cram in every single one of their shorts.
especially with how cliche the "drama" is and how you can predict 90% of the dialogue spot on

I don't know why this isn't what they are doing, that is literally all people want to see, everybody just wants to see their favorite character kick ass in a cinematic way that doesn't happen ingame
Such a waste that the 10/10 animation has to be paired with the 1/10 writing that takes up 80% of the shorts
It was better than that Widowmaker one they did a while back but not by much.
Oh goodie! We get Miko from Transformers Prime for 3 minutes before Soldier 76 shows up. Wow what slow pacing and annoying characters we got today. Isn't Soldier 76's gimmick is that he's like a super soldier? Why does he need to hide? Great animation, but it could have been better.
this is fucking laughable, holy shit. by far the worst one yet
In the last short a robot goon, who in the lore is said to be fully sentient and have a soul, is shot through the chest with an arrow. Meanwhile the human goons are knocked out.
Yes I remember that shot.
The short showed a human, cut to a bow being pulled, then suddenly a robot dying. Biggest example of this bullshit so far.

And I really don't care what the lore says and neither do soccer moms. This is still pg crap.

The Alive short is the worst one, bar none.

Since when does Super Soldier mean you're impervious to bullets?
I'm still waiting for Reinhardt's short.

I meant like combat training or some sort of combination of long range to close range mastery, but he's constantly in the shadows like he's Batman. But I guess the main reason why is that Blizzard wants to show off all of his in-game moves in the short.
Also I've been seeing constant lingering shots of the moon in all of the shorts. Is there a purpose for the moon to appear in all of them?
These Overwatch animations are nice but I have a feeling they'll never live up to the Meet the Team videos, and those are from 2009.
i liked the glow-in-the-dark facepaint the bad guys were wearing. i think they could have gotten way more stylish with that, especially if they had blood to play around with
a person getting a arrow through their face isnt exactly something I'd want to see in an overwatch short.

They already can't. The shorts feel like they have none of the same charm and character in comparison.
Just go look at the later Meet's, especially medic. They feel much more... inspired I think
I wonder how long these shorts have been in production?
The TF2 shorts were usually really good, but some of them took well over a year or two after the previous one to come out.

Who said the gore had to be totally realistic? It could definitely be done in a tasteful way.

TF2 shorts are a good example of how shorts can be rated M without having to resort to making it really gruesome.
Its like blizzard put the robots in overwatch just to violently murder them.
I'd like to see a Mercy short. I wonder if they are doing all of them or just the 'main' ones

I'd like to imagine they were already prepped and being released on a schedule. Blizz's animation team is pretty good & big

Last time I heard, Valve doesn't have a team for their cinematics, my numbers might be skewed but I think they had just two guys when they were working on Meet the Medic/Pyro, they also have some pretty great writers.
Blizzard on the other hand has a full team working on these cinematics, ranging from their top of the line pre-rendered cinematics to the ones we see in OW, and the OW ones use the in-game assets so that cuts a huge chunk of time.
this one is far and away the weakest
These Overwatch animations are nice but I have a feeling they'll never live up to the Meet the Team videos, and those are from 2009.
Well to be fair Valve did spoil us with those vids.

But those have a lot of character to them. A lot of uniqueness.
So... Yeah...
Really bad voice acting. It doesnt feel like a blizzard game just by looking at the trailer
Isn't it supposed to be generic
Blizzard blows the budgets for the style, the characters and the animation, a game that is supposed to be alive for many years with full support. A game that will go on for a long time and then they butcher such a huge game that already has a huge fan community with atrocious dialogue.
It's not on purpose.
I find it funny the in game little chats between characters are better then the dialogue of the shorts :v:
I thought S76's voice acting wasn't terrible. Generic action hero sure, but not nearly as bad as TRAYSAH HEAH or lé wídówmákéur
I thought A76's voice acting wasn't terrible. Generic action hero sure, but not nearly as bad as TRAYSAH HEAH or lé wídówmákéur
I do not think its Soldier 76 that's the problem i think its the little girl its another of blizzards very obviously fake accents, tie that in with the poorly written dialogue it becomes very cringy.
Don't get me wrong I wish the writing was better and all, but I really need to wonder where people's expectations were coming from Blizzard's writing has been awful for a looong time.
I dunno, I find the bloodless violence and "the bad guy was a robot so its fine" to be kinda charming, reminds me a lot of things like the old GI Joe cartoon where if anybody got shot and killed they'd start sparking and oops the cobra trooper was actually a robot dont worry we're still TV-PG
and since Overwatch is basically GI Joe: The Team-based FPS I think it fits pretty well
this short was pretty weak though. it did a good enough job of establishing that Soldier 76 went from being a world-renowned superhero to a dude that beats up criminals in alleys but ultimately it fell prey to that classic problem of "action cartoon writers don't realize that nobody cares about the shit kid, not even the kids watching"

Yeah that was my biggest issue, nobody fucking care about the shit kid, get that fucking shit outta here.
