I had a similar theory when Portal 2 was about to come out. That when you bought Portal 2, Episode 3 came with it with zero notice.

I disagree, the shock of it and how unexpected it is would cause every gaming website to go into a spin
I don't think you know what kind of company Valve is, this is a company that has scraped and reworked their games multiple times, Half-Life 1 was redone a year into development and HL2 was completely revamped in 2003 after it was leaked to the internet also bare in mind TF2 was essentially in development for 8 years, where at once it was just a GoldSRC update to TF which was later scraped.
I doubt that sounds like the company to blindly release a game because ZombieDawgs stated Valve would need the feedback not to mention lose of sales, word of mouth is great but huge companies depend a lot on first day sales, in fact it's a vital part to their development process, so if HL3 or Episode 3 whatever it is now started getting playtested and getting gamer/reviewer feedback we'd know it was out there. This isn't the sort of company that runs on zero feedback, at least so far.
why is gabe hailed as, like, the god of video games
i love what he has done for the pc and for digital distribution with steam but wow people are still excited for half-life 3? especially when half-life episode 2 was resoundingly dull? valve has managed to ruin every other decent game they've created (by 'created' i mean bought off a mod team/university students and then commercialised) in the last few years anyway

HL2:Episode 2 ended on a MASSIVE cliffhanger, people want to know how the trilogy ends.

Resoundingly Dull? The gameplay mechanics especially the levels designs was extremely intuitive, for instance the sort of implemented side-quests where you had to find those packages was a nice implementation of a normally unoriginal feature. Which is what most of the game was slick implementation of what would otherwise be boring features.
I don't know what'd be wrong with that, Ricochet was fucking awesome. Honest.
To anyone who doesn't know what this magnificient piece of code that was:

You jumped around and threw discs at people and they fucking exploded

I think he's complaining about how you don't get kill streaks and there's no nuke size explosions.

omg yeh on facepunch if you don't think half-life is the best game ever then you're obviously a pr0 ~mlg~ cod l0ver lmao you got me mate XD
Yes because that's what he said. Sure the HL series aren't the best games out there but claiming they're resoundingly dull just makes you look like you're trying to be edgy.

Well, yeah, you are
let's be honest 95% of FP's favorite game is a source game and they have HL2 in high regard, same with steam, Gabe and everything Valve does.
HL3 won't need to add new guns. Ever since HL2 we've gotten like, one or two new enemies and no new guns. We got story, new enviroments and plot and character developement, and an improvement in graphics and technical backbone.
HL3 won't live up to everyone's standards, but it'll be good, and it'll (hopefully) put an end to the HL saga with a bang.
Personally I did not find HL2EP2 dull at all, it was a fun ride, it had varied enviroments, a decent boss battle (which made up for HL2's horribly dull ending) and I think what Valve does, hiring an indie/mod team or buying a mod's rights and giving it a budget then selling it as an AAA game is a good thing. It keeps things fresh. I don't think any other dev/producer the size of Valve would even think to try and sell "Portal" these days. It was unexplored territory, it was a great game, it got an amazing sequel with Valve's signature amazing art direction and plots.
With a team like Valve it would be good, look at Portal, Massively popular game that could never be lived up to.
Sure Portal 2 didn't live up to 1 but it was DAMN good.
Valve wouldn't disappoint.

I would actually say that Portal 2 surpassed the first one.
But someone is allowed to think a game is boring.
Portal 2 needed harder chambers and maybe a couple more chambers, that's what you get when you're actually aiming for an audience instead of releasing a small game into the wild to see if it sticks, I guess.
But the plot and art made up for it and gave it a place in my top 5 games.
Portal 2 is an amazing game, I prefer it over the first but in the long run 1 can't be beaten.
Well, yeah, you are
but i'm not.........................................
Sometimes I feel people like to use Gabe to represent all of the Valve corporation.
Which is just a little unfair, In my opinion
You usually get banned from steam forums for making fun of Ricochet.
They call it the Rico rule and its a permanent ban and it happened to me.

Your fault. You don't make fun of Ricochet.
Best Scenario: He announces the Half Life 3 bundle complete with : Portal 3, Left for Dead 3 and Team Fortress 3 all on a brand new Source engine they have been making for the past 10 years.

The realistic scenario bundle would probably be Dota 2, CS:GO, and Ep3
neither of those scenarios are realistic
I don't want HL3 for the gun-play. I thought the gunplay of HL2, Ep. 1, and Ep. 2 was kind of boring. But the story was incredible.
