I wish we had some sort of story as to why Grove street has been taken over
I know it's just a video game, but I can't be a (murderous) dick to even virtual people in a game. I just triggers some empathetic reaction in my brain and makes me feel bad. Random peds are fine, but just some minimal interaction, like with that cashier, is enough to make me feel enough not to want to kill him.
That just makes me want to shoot them even more.
Actually annoyed me that he shot the cashier he sounded so scared fuck that player seriously
I want to track him down find him on GTA Online rob him, shit in his Online place then shoot his face then fly a plane into his place and shoot him again [sp]overkill?[/sp]
are we seriously talking about the morality of shooting someone in a gta game [editline]19th September 2013[/editline] his virtual family cant pay the bills now oh no
Who cares if it's virtual or not. I can never play like an asshole in any game. Doesn't matter that it's virtual, it still feels like a massively dick thing to do.

That's the whole point of video games like these, to do things you normally wouldn't do in real-life because you know it's wrong, but in a video game it doesn't matter so who gives a fuck. Everyone whose saying stupid shit like "omg wow this guy is a huge asshole, fuck him!!" is being really overly dramatic.
Just tried this as Trevor in Sandy Shores. He pulled out a shotgun on me.
people bitch about how people cant see the difference between videogame violence and real violence then gamers bitch about how the media doesnt know what the fuck its talking about then there are people like you, that obviously can't distinguish real life and videogames since you feel bad for an entity in a game, that will respawn and has no effect on anything. you are hilarious [editline]19th September 2013[/editline] COMPUTERS DONT HAVE FEELINGS
What, are you saying I can't feel emotionally attached to anyone because they're not real? I know it's fictitious, it will respawn, it's a bunch of pixels held together by code but who gives a shit. I read books and I know they're just ink put into words that form sentences that convey thoughts and concepts, yet I still feel attached to the characters. There's a huge difference between saying "You cant distinguish between videogames and reality" and "You cant under any circumstances ever feel any emotion in a videogame" Go read a good tragedy book or something, then by the time you're bawling at the end I'll punch you in the face for it.
lol
I love this guy's response. [editline]19th September 2013[/editline] The quality for something to evoke feelings of pity or sadness is called pathos. Something doesn't have to be real to do this, much like how Thomas Was Alone manages to create characters out of simple colored squares of different dimensions. It's in the presentation of the art medium that would make someone have pity for a character. "wtf why would you have feelings for it ITS NOT REAL" seems to totally backtrack on this idea. I thought learning about this kind of stuff in writing and art was middle-high school material.
Did the cashier actually go faster when he fired a warning shot?
Yepp. When you're playing online you can also shout through your microphone to make him go faster while your friends wait in the getaway vehicle.
theres a difference when its related to the story, eg a character dies permenantly thus changing your experience completely. this is an entity in a game serving no purpose other than to be robbed and or killed. you have no emotional attachment if you do im sorry but its malignant
It doesn't matter how important a character is to the story. The fact is that it is a character in a game that says shit and has a certain story to them. That alone gives them enough depth to be a source of any number of emotions. Also grow up with that "its malignant" shit.
Edit: in hindsight this wasnt the post I wanted to make, ill rethink it [editline]19th September 2013[/editline]
It really just sounds like you are a little bit broken emotionally to be honest, the fact that you can feel for something which literally has no importance to anything, nor makes a difference. It's like getting mad at someone for stepping on a single ant.
You're not getting me though. I understand that this case holds no importance to anything ever. What does that matter though? If I'm immersed in a good game world or watching a video about one, I will, obviously, have certain emotional attachments to certain characters. Like I said, how is a game different to a book in this regard? If I had read this exact situation play out in a novel, obviously I'd think that the guy that pulled the trigger was a major asshole. Instead of saying I'm broken emotionally I'd say I have the moral high ground here and you have sociopathic tendencies. That might sound hypocritical coming from a guy who enjoyed GTA4 but even in that game I never killed people if I didn't have a proper reason to. The fact that they hold no importance changes nothing.
It's a game guys chill. Just because someone doesn't react the same way to you doesn't mean they are a hollow human being, or an emotional wreck, everyone is different. Like just watching the video for example, I was watching it with my 11 year old sister behind, when the player shot the clerk, I obviously knew it's a mean thing to do but where it's JUST a game and I've been playing GTA for so long, I just didn't care. My sister on the other hand said out loud "Awwwh he didn't have to do that, that was cruel". People just react differently.
WatchDogs does seem less like a fuck-around game where it make actually raise those kinds of points in-game. But we'll have to see. Doesn't matter, Bioshock kind of topped this kind of thing forever with harvesting little sisters. Even if the ending kinda ruined it.
i cant wait for you to get mad at people for hacking pedestrians bank accounts in watch dogs "no guys its wrong they have families to feed you are ruining their lives"
holy shit did the guy in the store refuse to sell you petrol or something the vitriol that you hate this guy with [editline]19th September 2013[/editline]
are we seriously talking about the morality of shooting someone in a gta game [editline]19th September 2013[/editline] his virtual family cant pay the bills now oh no
no we're talking about the emotional reaction people get from watching something that is meant to represent a human being shoot another thing that is meant to be a human being nobody ONCE mentioned morality
When a Rockstar employee sees us feeling sorry for the very thing we usually laugh at and hate then he will finally, and without doubt be able to say: "Mission accomplished."
Or "Pfffftttt look at those pussies" which is a good feeling too I guess.
i cant wait for you to get mad at people for hacking pedestrians bank accounts in watch dogs "no guys its wrong they have families to feed you are ruining their lives"
dont get your panties in a twist
