i've definitely run into a few gamur grilz as they're traditionally defined before but not that often, certainly been over a year since i last had trouble with one don't really run into women in games all that often in general, though most of them are fine from my experience
i don't get how a "gurrl gamer" is any worse from guys going "what is up guys, it's me xXXXweed_fiend_69" talking about SENSATIONALIST GAME NEWS THAT WILL GIVE MY VIDEO VIEWS while call of duty plays in the background"
its not, they're both equally terrible types of people
don't really run into women in games all that often in general, though
You really can't know who is behind the name you see online.
You don't know anything about being discriminated again. You are a white cismale, so don't even start.
Yes, because being VAC banned is clearly a sign of you being oppressed instead of, oh you know, being banned for cheating?
Just gonna say, the vast majority of LP'ers are terrible attention-whores, male or female. My main problem with gamer girls is that they emphasize the girl over the gamer, I don't give a fuck what gender you are, what I care about is your entertainment value as an LP'er/commentator/critic/whatever. [editline]26th June 2013[/editline] I tend to associate the term "gamer girls" to the stereotypical "I'm a girl that plays games look how special I am" types
the huge majority of women i've met who self-labeled as "gamer girls" were nowhere near as annoying as the stereotype the dumb misogynist cliché turned the expression into a reactionary label.
and that's why I just say "gamer", I only use the term gamer girl to describe that stereotype.
Kinda reminds me of
women's gamer rights
Haha what
my gamer rights are being suppressed
my gamer rights are being suppressed
A straight white man goes into the jungle and stumbles across a beautiful iridescent beetle, completely unfamiliar to him. “What the fuck, is this some kind of tumblr social justice shit?”
you're not a REAL GOTH [editline]26th June 2013[/editline]
Just gonna say, the vast majority of LP'ers are terrible attention-whores, male or female. fucking poser girl goths probably don't know anything about gothic subculture this affects me personally
if you call yourself a 'gamer' at all then you are an irredeemable fuckwad
if you call yourself a 'gamer' at all then you are an irredeemable fuckwad
So associating yourself with a certain demographic makes you a fuckwad? Ok lol.
the huge majority of women i've met who self-labeled as "gamer girls" were nowhere near as annoying as the stereotype the dumb misogynist cliché turned the expression into a reactionary label.
i don't get why people go "UGH GUUUURL GAMERZ" they're not stupid because they're "girl gamers," they're stupid because they're stupid people. the girl gamer part doesn't make them who they are.
I'm a gamer. Do you know why? I play video games.
it's good to know that you have to apply labels to yourself in order to get value out of doing activities
It's more a label the English language applies. I fish too. Guess what, I'm a fisherman. I drive my car sometimes, I'm a driver. I'm 18. I'm a teenager. I am currently aging in the teens.
im gay
me too, pm me
no pms, lets let the whole internet know!
So associating yourself with a certain demographic makes you a fuckwad? Ok lol.
I think the point is more that the kind of people who act like they're in this unique special flower group of "true gamers" are literally some of the most socially awkward and ridiculous people you can find on the internet. The fact that there are people who get incredibly upset about people calling themselves "gamers" without being fans of what they consider good games is pretty pathetic. Can you imagine if groups of socially awkward gay people gathered on the internet to talk about how you're not a real gay if you haven't sucked at least 400 hours of dicks and sucked a dick of 10 varieties of racial backgrounds? :v:

Realtalk I love videogames but I just avoid being associated with "gamer culture". It's just stupid if you ask me. If you consider yourself a "gamer" just because you play games then that's cool I suppose, but it becomes pretty asinine when you bring in the whole "I am this type of gamer because X" or "I am a true gamer because of X". It's just a petty ego contest, really. A lot of people get worked up about what is basically nothing. Ironically these are the usually same people who go "who cares I just want to play games" whenever actually relevant issues regarding gaming are discussed. Sorry if that sounds condescending or dickish, just my two cents.
Actually, you're not a real gamer until you shut the fuck up about "being a gamer".
You know, I've been playing all kinds of games since I was a kid, on the amiga, atari ST, PC, PS, Xbox, etc. and I don't think I've ever once used the phrase "gamer" to refer to myself in any context.
-snip-
Girls claiming to be "gamers" use it as a tactic.
What does this even mean?
i don't get why people go "UGH GUUUURL GAMERZ" they're not stupid because they're "girl gamers," they're stupid because they're stupid people. the girl gamer part doesn't make them who they are.
They are not stupid because they are female gamers. They are stupid because they are attention whores ingame, the "look I'm a girl and I'm playing games, I'm so special" kind, and we call that a "gurl gamer". "gurl gamer" is a term made for specific type of person. And there are no "boy gamers" because nobody goes "look I'm a boy and I'm playing games, how special is that"
that's because people who are female are generally more of a minority in computer games. they may want to possibly identify with this. this is nothing new, nor is there anything 'attention-whore-ey' about it
What? When you're playing a game and you go "look I'm a girl and I'm playing video games, isn't that special?", that's attention whoring. Just play the game. And why identify yourself as chick gamer or whatever. Why is your gender important? A gamer is a gamer.
don't label yourself as something you do in your spare time, especially if it isn't entirely flattering.
Gaming isn't flattering? It's a medium of entertainment and storytelling.

When you're playing a game and you go "look I'm a girl and I'm playing video games, isn't that special?", that's attention whoring. Why is your gender important? A gamer is a gamer.
It might have to do because the aforementioned dumb stereotype turned the assertation of your gender into a reactionary label. It's a bit of a loaded comparison but it's a little bit how some women try to reclaim the word "slut"
