Obviously the only way we'll ever get into space with our sort term memories and democractic society is by taking small sensationalist baby steps to secure funding until space becomes easily exploitable enough to be profitable.
Holy hell its already at 27000
Want to give 25 dollar but it requires a credit card :/
100 times this. I love space programs and I wish the USA was still striving for space dominance, but it has already been achieved. No one else is challenging the US in terms of a space race and therefore the politicians don't see the point of advancing our NASA program further.
The point of a space program shouldn't be to beat other countries. That's the reason people hate the US, because of that attitude. The point of a space program should be to better the human race and secure our future, which right now is very uncertain.
donated 10$
i want to go into space before i die.

I think most of us would.
It baffles me that there are people out there who simply don't give a shit about space.
Someone actually donated $10,000. That's crazy. They're at $47,178 with 23 days to go.

I want to look at Earth while on the Moon. I don't care if i'm tied to life support and its the last thing I see before I die, I wanna make it happen.
I like how this will probably get less money than the brony documentary. ugh.
What if we go to Mars and find the Protheans. That would be fucking sweet.
I kinda have to agree with evilweazel. With all the issues the U.S. and the world is currently facing, space exploration really seems like a unnecessary investment.
Not to say this it isn't important, but while issues like global accessibility to medicine, food, or even water still remain, I think exploring space is the least of our worries, and resources better spent elsewhere. This is all of course without even mentioning the current state of the global economy and military tension between countless nations.
Space can wait, it isn't going anywhere.
I think I stand for everyone here when I say;
You are an idiot. You are a massive idiot and anyone who supports you is a massive idiot. You talk of global economy like space exploration will hurt it. There's H3 on the moon, there are hundreds of thousands of tons of valuable minerals in asteroids. Space exploration always brings forth new technologies and has never done anything bad for the world.

They probably will be all Jamaican.
I really hate how we kind of gave up on space exploration but I would love to see some sort of colonization on the moon or Astronauts landing on Mars in my life time. I kinda want to some thing that you can tell you grand children you know, other than being around when the first black president was elected.
We've got like 60-70 years left. A lot can happen, I guarantee you we will see humans on Mars.
Someone actually donated $10,000. That's crazy. They're at $47,178 with 23 days to go.
Woah, glad to see so much donated.
I was actually a bit worried it wouldn't succeed at fist, but after the news got spread out, it seems it'll succeed with no problems at all.
The global economy is so utterly irrelevant when it comes to space. Space gives us perspective. Why stay on this planet worrying about the economy and starting wars when we should be colonizing other planets! Sure it is expensive and inconvenient but the progress we could make is unimaginable.
From a practical standpoint it also makes sense to have the human race not just on one planet. Especially with all these warheads lying around.
Have a couple more videos that should clear some things up, and make you even more interested:

Everyone should watch this, and if you've already seen it, watch it again.

And anyone whining about the money it costs:
Space Exploration has historically shown to be very good for the economy, it creates jobs, inspires, and creates scientists and engineers.

I'll donate as soon as I can.
Donated 10 bucks!

Cool. Let another country get it. America has enough budget problems without paying for NASA research. It would be awesome to be the first to obtain those resources, but it is definitely out of reach for the time being.
Pledged a dosh amount of 75.

It will never BE in reach if you don't invest in the future.

Out of reach? It wouldn't be out of reach if NASA was properly funded.
Space research is the most important thing for the future of mankind

NASA isn't the only space agency on Earth. It's one of the best, yes, but it's not humanity's one and only hope of colonizing the moon or reaching Mars. America's broke, we don't want to be overextending ourselves.

Space exploration inspires and creates jobs, and the amount of money spent on it now is so small that it could easily be doubled without significant short-term implications, while it in the long term would probably help the economy vastly.
(Cut military budget with 0.5% (That would take it from around 50% to around 50%, while NASA's budget could be doubled)).

You can't just leave it up to other people to do it for you, if everyone thought like that, nothing would ever get done. Imagine if there was a fire in a building, and a fire station said, "Eh, leave it to those other firefighters, they can get it done."

Military budget has and is still being cut. I've been in the Delayed Entry Program for over a year now because of it.

We're not leaving it up for others to do, we're just backing out of the race for the moment. When the economy bounces back, then we can re-invest. You and I both know that's not a valid example, by the way.

Why do people like the Republicans think colonization and space exploration is bad? We need to stop worrying about our own needs and country differences and unite, as one human race to explore the stars. I dont care if you think its 'silly' I dont care if you think that space research is unnecessary. Frankly, the human race needs to unite to explore. If we dont explore the cosmos, that is going against everything our race has achieved by bounds of exploration. What if the explorers of the old age just went "fuck it, its silly to explore". We would still be in that age, stuck in time, just because we were too ignorant to actually see the world around us. And that applies today. If we do NOT explore space, we will be stuck in an era when we could have advanced as a whole.
Space Exploration is the only hope for the advancement of the human race.

Um they don't.
Sorry to burst your bubble here, but historically science funding has been larger under republican presidents.
