Im talking about the modern age maybe? I know that already. Im talking about the current republican candidate.
Well that's all fine and dandy, but you phrased it like the whole of the republican party hates space exploration.
You don't have to go back further than Bush and Clinton to find examples of NASA getting higher funding under the republican president.
It's fine though, and personally I would rather see Obama in office for another four years, but there's no point in not realizing that some times, some things are better on the other side.

I should have clarified, sorry.
I should have clarified, sorry.
No problem :)
I did the calculations, and it turns out that the average amount donated by the 1,486 backers so far is $39.07. If the entire population of California (37,691,912) donated that much, we would have almost $1.5 billion.
Why do people like the Republicans think colonization and space exploration is bad? We need to stop worrying about our own needs and country differences and unite, as one human race to explore the stars. I dont care if you think its 'silly' I dont care if you think that space research is unnecessary. Frankly, the human race needs to unite to explore. If we dont explore the cosmos, that is going against everything our race has achieved by bounds of exploration. What if the explorers of the old age just went "fuck it, its silly to explore". We would still be in that age, stuck in time, just because we were too ignorant to actually see the world around us. And that applies today. If we do NOT explore space, we will be stuck in an era when we could have advanced as a whole.
Space Exploration is the only hope for the advancement of the human race.
You know what.
Remove greed, unite everything, boom.
Unlimited possibilities.
Easy to say, but such a thing will most likely be impossible to create.

Exploration has always been fueled by greed though, humans left Africa to find more food sources, Europeans went to the Americas to find gold and silver, and the US went to the moon to have power over the Soviets.
Being united as a human race is nice and an admirable goal, but its probably never gonna happen. Greed though, greed is the ultimate motivator.
I kinda have to agree with evilweazel. With all the issues the U.S. and the world is currently facing, space exploration really seems like a unnecessary investment.
Not to say this it isn't important, but while issues like global accessibility to medicine, food, or even water still remain, I think exploring space is the least of our worries, and resources better spent elsewhere. This is all of course without even mentioning the current state of the global economy and military tension between countless nations.
Space can wait, it isn't going anywhere.
How about you go look up what all space related research has brought the human race. You are an idiot.
Bill Nye is even in this, they got my money!
Its fucking stupid that we spend trillions and trillions of us dollars to KILL eachother, while a fraction of that money would ensure that the human race would not go extinct.
[editline]28th July 2012[/editline]
If the money we spend killing eachother was spent on technology, we'd be living the future.

Damn, he's aged since I last saw him.
I'dd like to see a joint space program by multiple nations go to Mars one day, problem is everyone is going to fight over whos countrymen is going to walk on Mars first.

Pledged $10, I can't wait to watch it.

Agreed. I would do unspeakable things to his orifices.
I like how this will probably get less money than the brony documentary. ugh.
Considering the BRONYcon Docu is at like $322,000 I doin't this this docu has much chance unless this hits reddit big time or is shared over twitter and FB a bunch.
Gonna donate at my next payday, it's crazy how some people don't care about Space programs.
Even tho I'm not American, I donated 10 bucks. I love space and everything that has to do with it. Alot of people don't realize how important space is for the development of our whole race.
Space Exploration is part of our future and if you eliminate that, you might as well say goodbye to space resources like mining asteroids, finding new materials to make better technology, bringing a alien plant to earth to see if our planet is compatible to live in our planet and other interesting biology lifeforms.
Research = Technology = progress of our Era = new things for our human civilization to use for both good and bad.

AFAIK it was shared on several news sites (which is why it suddenly got a boost in donations), and it was actually on Reddit, but it didn't receive that many upvotes. :/
We should try Reddit again.
Or 4Chan.
It's funny to see how people think about how "we're spending so much money on space". Quite frankly, that's not true. Half a penny of every dollar goes towards NASA and that is nothing. If I remember correctly, education gets 30 times that amount. People say we need to focus more on other things? Do you actually think your money will go to something that will help people? I sure don't.
Space exploration and NASA is an investment. Your running shoes, sunglasses, microcomputers and tons of other things found in your home are some way linked to NASA. The problem with people is that they went immediate results. Sorry, but that's not how things work. Enjoy your taxes that go towards the military instead.
Innovation and dreams attract all of the worlds top engineers, scientists, inventors and others. Ambition will keep them here. People from around the world come to the US to study here but leave because they can achieve more in their home countries. They can't follow their dreams because the government doesn't let them, so they go somewhere where they have good funding and they advance technology there instead. It's kind of why the LHC was built in Europe and not in America. It shows America's science blows ass.
I can see why people don't really care about space exploration any more, honestly. We have so many problems going on down here on earth that everyone has to worry about, so what would it change for the common man anywhere if we did get an extremely small colony on the moon? It wouldn't change the economy by much for them, it wouldn't pull them or their sons and daughters out of wars, it won't clean up the environment... They don't want to sink the money into it, especially when there is already so little to go around. This isn't my opinion mind you, but that's the way I would think most people are thinking right now, and they're not exactly wrong in some ways.
But the thing is it can. New colonies can mean easier ways to get resources, new job opportunities, less over crowding. Like the documentary says during the first moon landings the amount of people graduating with a science degree was huge which helps everyone. Not to mention it is just cool as shit, gives us a goal and is relatively cheap to the tax payer.
Goody, I get a t-shirt near my birthday next year.
Awesome!

Today, July 29th 2012, Fight for Space has reached it's minimum funding level of $65,000. This achievement comes on the same day that President Dwight D. Eisenhower first singed the National Aeronautics and Space Act, so we are proud to be in good company.
Now, we must push for greater frontiers. With your help, if we can continue to push this level of funding until our end date of August 19th, we can bring this documentary to new heights.

If we can reach $100,000: We can work towards bringing this film to the masses in a theatrical release and more broadcast networks. A higher funding level also means that we will be shoot this film on better cameras, bring in additional and talented artists, designers, cinematographers, photographers, and researchers.
Please help boost our funding level to $100,000 or more. With every extra dollar pledged our film becomes that much better. Here are some of the things we will be able to work towards if we exceed our goal.
Theatrical Release
Additional Distribution Methods
Higher Resolution Cameras
More Locations
More Interviews
Improved Design Art for the Rewards
Greater Level of Research
Larger Crew, Improved Cinematography
Larger Orchestra for our Musical Score
Please keep sharing, tweeting, and writing! With your help we can make this project even better than we planned! Fight for Space.
Thank you all,

Holy gosh, yes. I would see the shit out of this at a movie theater.
Pledged 50. I really want to see this come together and have some sort of an impact.
anyone else think we should raise enough awareness for them to reach the $100k goal? I would really like to see some theatrical releases.
